  1. ~S~ Greetings all, Following in the wake of our DCS:Blackshark cockpit trainer, I have recently finished a "beta" version of a cockpit trainer for the A-10C. This should allow folks to familiarize themselves with their new virtual office when they don't have time for a full gaming experience. But lets get right to the reason for this post. I present to the DCS:A-10C community our Cockpit Familiarization Trainer. A-10C Cockpit Trainer

  2. I thought I would release the beta version of my airfield diagrams for DCSW as the charts are at the point where I need to print a copy and then work my way through the airfields to get the rest of the detail right. The radio frequencies, elevations, directions and measurements should be accurate with the mission editor the F10 view and the A10C's internal MAGVAR. I'll do the release as a separate thread to the design discussion to avoid the release getting lost in that thread. I'm working through tower placement and taxiway labelling in addition to points of interest however a lot of the Russian airfields dont have the taxiways labelled which complicates the matter, I'm thinking it may be worth waiting until the DCS release prior to revisiting this. I've also added references to the ADF's from the BS manual and if the interest is there I will release a Russian air force version with Metric measurements once the maps are finished. If anyone picks a bug or has some reference notes for the airfields let me know. UPDATE: Updated airfield name plus some error corrections For those of you printing this, I recommend printing in color to A5 directly, as the map lines blend better in color then gray-scale, however you can print 2 per page on A4/letter Airfield Diagrams.pdf

  3. I used to use these all the time in Falcon 4, so I decided to make one up for DCS A-10C. It's attached below. Hope you enjoy it. Edit: added a few things and expanded some abbreviations where possible for those not so familiar. Edit 2: I attached the cold start checklist I made up, it also has things from the Beta 2 manual that I thought I would want quick access to. Edit 3: Mission Data Card changes; added elevation for airbase data squares, added TGP laser designator code as well as GBU laser designator code....cause nothing sucks worse than dropping a GBU that did not have a matching laser code with the TGP! Also color in the PRI/SEC target boxes, and last, dedicated Lat/Lon UTM coordinate boxes for JTAC target locations. Edit 4: JTAC section additions, misc changes. Edit 5: Cold Start Checklist updated to Final Release parameters. Edit 6: Cold Start Checklist revised, now Version 2. Edit 7: Mission Data Card now provided in A5 Format as well as 8.5X11 Look for A5 at the end of file description for A5 version. Edit 8: Cold Start Checklist added Environmental Controls, now Version 3. Edit 9: External Light activation was moved post APU GEN start. Version 4. 5. And so are USAF aircrews. Been there, done that. I understand mishaps happen and will happen. The training is in place to prevent those mishaps. Bottom line is a crew going hypoxic is not the only reason why a plane ends up turfed. There are many other factors coming into play well before that point. Human error being chief among them.

  6. Correct. Red light is not compatible with NVGs and has the same effect as white light would. The green light used in NVIS compatible cockpits is at a frequency that NVGs tune out. In addition, the MFDs/MHDDs/MFCDs some more modern aircraft have a night setting which is also invisible when viewed through NVGs.

  7. I just wanted to thank all those people (you know who you are) that have been making charts, manuals, guides, forms, checklists, profiles, explanatory posts, and other useful items for A10C. I already have a folder full of stuff, and I couldn't imagine attacking this sim without it. Wish I could contribute something, but I'm more your average freeloader type :D.

  8. I did some reading up on the laser range finder and came across this thread which helped me a lot. I believe there is one unanswered question I just happened to find the answer to. My dcs-bs_flight_manual_eng.pdf that came with 1.0.2 contains the following paragraph in the section The I-251 “Shkval” Electro-Optical Targeting System (4-12):

  9. How can anybody still think that the F-35 is possible? I mean, i get those 'wouldn't it be nice' posts, but seriously speaking: No way, José!

  10. The mystery solved Following CG's advice i ran through the the final moments of my doomed flight in slow-mo and look what i see. 1 second after bomb release i am dutifully popping flares. hmmmm. flares are kinda close to thet giant metal firework arent they? :helpsmilie: KA-BOOM. :( CMS meets offensive weaponry and the laws of thermodynamics take over. Gotta love ED for the their physics simulations. Never have I had to bear in mind the dangers of my own CMS before! In future I will halt my CMS program till 2 or 3 seconds after launch. The risk of the missile which may be there is less than the giant frickin bomb which i know IS there!

  13. Really I dont understand it. How can all of you who have a hotas warthog not have posted countless explosions of joy!! How can one only say: "Yeah its really nice". I have just flown a couple of hours and when it kind of started "clicking" I had the tears in my eyes man! This is to good to be true. Only flicking the APU switch already got me completely in the zone. Sliding those throttles to maximum for take-off, its like you can feel everything now, you are connected to the plane, you are one with the simulator! It is so accurate you can make very very slow rolls very accurate and consistent. Pulling the trigger reminds of pulling the trigger on a real gun. They say there is only one thing better then sex and that is supposed to be heroine, I tell you, now there are two things better! I understand why some of your wives have trouble with you buying this. Its not because of the money, its because of the competition! And if you rationally look at it she couldnt be more right. It has a lot more buttons, the microsticks are very similar, it only makes noise when you touch it, when one part gets pissed you can shut it down and continue with the parts that are still ok, if it doesnt go where you want it to you can trim it AND you can blow stuff up with it. Well you do the math for yourself, there is only one right decision: GET THIS THING! Female objections are invalid as per the above and if you don't have the money it is worth the risk for jailtime if you try to steal one. Ethics need to go completely out of the window for this one. I think that this is morally permissable if you are flightsimmer :) Like it is morally permissable to steal food when you are about to starve. It is that essential. You must have it.
