  1. Hey Folks, First, I'd like to thank ED for this great sim. I am learning everyday with this sim and that is a great feeling. I generally don't like to point the obvious but I'll pass on my principles on that one : english is not my native language (stupid french here :music_whistling:) so please feel free to point out any typos, bad spelling, bad grammar and so on, in this post or in the attached document. Two weeks ago I was practicing ILS landing in bad weather, and I told myself that training on the same airfield was not that great as it was beginning to feel almost mechanical (turn here, drop gear now, ...) And I wish there were ILS available on more airfields not to train on the same airfield everyday. And my answer to this problem came to me while reading the manual. You can simulate glide path using the 3D Nav Mode of a waypoint. Maybe this is known to all the hardcore simmers out there, but I have not seen any thread concerning this on this forum for the moment. It revealed to be a great tool when there is little to no visibility like in the flight used in exemple in this tutorial (visibility inferior to 150m) Basically, this technique lies in using the waypoint created in the DIVERT page of the CDU to drive the glide bars of the ADI to provide a glide path. As this waypoint is placed in the middle of the runway, good control of speed in final is required as you will not have the full length of the runway to speed your aircraft down. I hope this tutorial can serve to other people. I may not be doing eveything by the book, so any critics, comments, suggestions are welcome. Again, typos and bad grammar comments are also welcome. I am working on a Youtube video to illustrate this technique, but anyone whishing to post one is welcome. Hope you'll enjoy this and practicing bad weather landing with this technique :pilotfly: GPS Glide Path 3D Nav.pdf

  2. In case anyone is interested here is a document containing some my checklists/procedures. I made these notes a while ago when I learned the sim using the training missions. I decided to publish them to help new members learn this fantastic sim. The checklists are best used in conjunction with the training missions and the flight manual, but they may still be useful as a reference after learning the specific topics. Be aware that the current version of the flight manual unfortunately contains some errors. I started a list with all the errors I found here. I hope ED will update the manual in an upcoming patch! These are the topics contained in the document (more to follow): Startup Taxi and Take-off TACAN Landing Use of AN/AAQ-28 LITENING-II AT targeting pod (TGP) Attack using GAU-8/A Avenger 30mm gun Attack using unguided rockets (in CCIP mode) Employment of unguided (free-fall) bombs using CCIP and CCRP Employment of PGM (LGB/IAM) Employment of AGM-65 Maverick Air-to-Surface Missile Air-to-Air employment using AIM-9M sidewinder missiles Open issues (please help me resolve them): AIM-9M: What exactly is "circular scan and consent to self track" mode ? manual p. 387: "The first depression enters scan mode which allows AIM-9 slewing. The next depression commands circular scan and consent to self track, ..." AGM-65: According to the manual TGM-65D/H can also be loaded on a LAU-88 triple rail launcher, but not in the game. See this thread. Please let me know if there is anything I can improve! I gained my knowledge mostly from the included training missions, the flight manual, forum posts and video tutorials on YouTube. Big thanks to the community! Have fun and enjoy this great sim! 3. Note: I have decided to do videos for each of the missions each with a little walkthrough on what I ended up doing in the mission... After seeing a lot of people having questions about what to do in the Devil's Cross first mission, I decided to go ahead and record an entire mission and post it to You Tube. My .trk files were usually borked and had errors in what actually happened so I loaded up FRAPS and started recording at the ramp at start, and stopping after I landed. FRAPS spit out 50GB of video (1hr 20min of sim time) which was then compressed just under the 2GB limit to upload to YT. I had to lower the bitrate a bit to get it under the 2GB limit so even at 720p resolution it is not the sharpest, but you can basically see everything you need to see in the video. Best to open the viewer full screen to so the HD size. I first want to note a couple of things about the mission: 1) I am using Tiger's AI mod so your wingman is more effective and doesn't run headlong into death. 2) Fixed the mission so the CAS1 flight doesn't fly into the ground at their hold waypoint (although their fuel load is still too low that the CAS1 wingman RTBs to base because he is out of fuel) 3) Forgot that I got rid of the dynamic weather in the mission (was thinking that it was one of the reasons why .trk files didn't play back right). So this mission has clear skies and 0 wind. 4) Changed my both my and my wingman's loadout to have 4 Mavs + 4 CBU97s also upped the fuel to 70% to give more loiter time. 5) I use the Easy Communications option. 6) Will probably go back to the YT page and add some notes to the videos to point out some things I did during the flight, and maybe some goofs I did during the flight also 7) Disclaimer: Do not use the video as an example of "the right way to do things". It is just the way I fly....I am not sure exactly the right way to fly a mission to begin with :)....sooooo any tips on how to help improve my flying and shacking are greatly appreciated. 8) If you have any questions on what I did or why I did it....ASK! Now....here are a few notes about about flying the mission. In this mission you are tasked with delaying the advance of the Russian 19th Motor Rifle Division. Their advance will take the form of two Regiment columns moving S - SE towards the town of Gori. After contacting JTAC at the contact point, you will be assigned targets from one of the two columns. You will have some CAP cover, help against AAA and SAMs from dedicated SEAD, and there will also be some other CAS flights in the area. There is no rush to get into the air. There is a reason why there are assigned time over targets. If you reach the target area, you may not give the CAP enough time to sweep the area and take care of air threats, and you may arrive before SEAD can take out some of the most potent AAA and SAM threats. Take your time on ingress to get an overview of your target, where he is going and how best to attack them. Do your best with the ordinance and fuel you have and then head back to base. You can't take out the entire Russian Army by yourself! There are other flights scheduled to help delay the forces if you aren't able to do so. As long as you takeoff and land back at base you WILL advance to the next mission in the campaign. Prepare for your ingress and attack. Although you have dedicated SEAD flights for this mission, you cannot completely rely on them completing your objective! A MiG can get through the CAP sweep, or a SAM may find its target. Be prepared for the SAM threat as if the SEAD was not assigned. Because of the possibility of AA threats, I ingress at around 15000 ft, and will only go lower when I know that there are not immediate AA threats down low. At the control point, I get my assigned target of the Western Column moving south. I hook the datalink triangle and slew my TGP to the area. I then scan south/southwest looking for any moving targets. I first spot two Zeus, and then some tanks leading the column. I check with JTAC and he confirms to me that those tanks are my target. I keep moving towards my IP waypoint and not directly to the target. No use getting over into enemy territory if you are not on an attack run....plus if you go direct to the target, you run the risk of flying over the Eastern column and possible AAA/SAM threats in that area. While I move towards the IP, I started thinking I was going to first attack with a ripple of 2 CBUs from the south along the length of the column. Dropping them at 15K feet with them moving may have them miss entirely. I then change my mind to hit the first few tanks with Mavs. When the Tanks scatter, they will be sitting targets for my next run(s) using CBUs....also it will cause a blockage in the roadway causing a backup of the other armor in the column making it a target rich environment :). How to get in and get out? South is safe. I you are assigned the Western column, egress west is safe. East is not safe because it may cause you to fly over the other column. Avoid north....there may still be some SAMs left up there. Do attack runs from the south and egress back south or maybe west. If you have the eastern column, East of that column and south is safe. After I made my first run with Mavs to hit the front of the column, I tell my wingie to attack AAA from the south. He only fires off 1 Mav, so I know that SEAD must have done their job well (Otherwise the wingie would have shot all of his Mavs at AAA/SAM threats). So I knew it was safe to go a bit lower if I needed to (beware of MANPADS though!). After my Mavs run, I decide to plink the tanks and BMPs with the CBUs. I use 1 CBU each pass....I know they probably don't do this in RL, but the CCRP release with the CBUs are pretty darn accurate with no wind! (Note....on the RAMP I changed the CBU burst height to 700). The wingie and I were able to take out the tanks and BMPs and JTAC told us we were free to go home (actually wingie had his tail shot up a bit and RTB). I looked and saw some artillery left and with a full cannon load and little low altitude AA threat, I decided to go guns and take them out :). Even with this extended time over target and trip back home, it wasn't until I was on the taxiway at base before the delay triggers kicked in and I started to get additional points for the mission. Although the wingie and I didn't hit the front of the other column, the other CAS flights did their jobs in help delaying that column. I know I have written enough, but want to add one more thing. One thing to help you with reviewing what happened, I highly suggest downloading Tacview. Even though it is a post mission took, it does help you with situational awareness on what was going on in the battle, and you can see things that you may miss in replaying a .trk (if the .trk replay works for ya!) For instance, when looking at the .acmi file for the video above, I was wondering why a CAS mission only had one member, and it turns out that the missing plane actually crashed midair with a C-17 right after takeoff! If you want to see what the .acmi of the mission in the video looks like you can download the .acmi here. Anyways, enjoy the video.....and if there are any questions ASK! Either I or someone here in the forums will probably have an answer for ya!

  4. Hello everyone, new pilot here. I've been poking the blackshark for 2 weeks now and I have basic understanding of it's systems. Done all of the tutorials, as well as watching commentary movies and browsing forums, but I still have some questions (and probably will for a long time) about some aspects of flight. Unfortunately, my x52 pro is busted and I won't be performing any tests myself for some time, but I can spend this time gathering some knowledge, can't I? ;) So here's the first set of questions that intrigue me: 1. Is there any practical use of the engine throttle in mid-flight apart from emergency situations? Should I program separate throttles for separate analog axes (as well as both at the same time to the third)? 2. Does that lever, or hatch, that's being retracted when I pull the throttles up control the "AUTO" mode of the engines? Is the "AUTO" mode engaged when the throttles are all the way up, or I just need to move it a little? Can somebody please explain to me what's exactly happening in this mode? 3. In flight manual, as well as training missions, it is stated that the x-feed valve should be closed when both engines are operating normally, but the sticky startup checklist thread says that I should ope it at the startup. Which one is correct? 4. To get the proper readings from barometric altimeter I need to input a correct barometric pressure of environment I'm operating in. Where can I obtain this information? 5. After patching the game, I don't always see the current IAS on the hud after I lift off. I do understand that it's related to the shkval system, but It's not always there when I fly it with the targeting system off. How do I initiate it? 6. I've been trying to follow the traffic pattern I learned from tutorials, but it's really difficult. The first 3 turns are at 240 deg. to the inner NDB, and when I turn forth time at the direction of 285 deg, I miss the runway and my flight is always parallel to it. The distance is usually about 20-30 meters. What do I do wrong? That's all for now. Thanks in advance.

  7. That's weird considering your Orao, You swore up and down was going to be publicly released. Along with your rework of TOMCATZ Model aswell. I can always find the posts saying this if you need a refresher

  8. That is really something . . . you know the reason I picked that particular image, other than being a big fan of old photographs in general, was the fact that he just looked totally and completely on top of the world - he just has life licked and its all going to be roses from here on out. I've always wondered what was really going on at that time, what his life was like, if it all panned out the way he looks like he thought it would. I wondered if someone would pick up on where the picture came from. I never would think in a million years I would ever run into one of his descendants! And a hog driver to boot! What are the odds?

  9. I'm going to take a guess here, but since your ADI is not operating in ILS mode, this is not a realistically acceptable means of IFR precision approach. There are huge differences in how ILS and STP modes operate in terms of needle deflections (albeit I think the ILS mode might not be working quite right in the sim) plus the fact that you're guiding to the middle of the runway = doom. As long as your HUD is functioning, you might be better off eyeballing the glidepath by using the divert to airfield STP and sticking it at -3deg, then keeping your TVV on it.

  10. Thanks for the feedback. I do my best to test as much as I can but bugs will slip through. I can't recall if BFT02 was done before or after the 1.1.0.7 patch. I'll test it as soon as I can and upload an update if I fix something. To wet your appetites I'm working on BFT06 - Advanced Handling and so far it includes Stall and Spin tests, a defensive spiral dive, a lazy eight pattern and a forced landing (both engines out). I'm trying to make the missions more challenging as the cadet's progress. If you have ideas you would like to see in these missions let me know. BFT07 - Aerobatics will have slew of good stuff. Hopefully it won't be so hard that nobody can pass it.

  13. translated by Google " French to English translation Hello everyone, I recently downloaded via STEAM A-10C Warthog. When I run the program (always with STEAM), I just long to see the boot image and a window "A-10 Warthog has stopped working" appears ............ . I tried everything I know to do: update drivers, uninstall / reinstall,........... nothing works! My skills reaching their limits, I decided to send you this post, hoping not to duplicate (asked for it on your forum ..). FYI, my config is: INTEL I5 760 2.8 GHz 4 GB RAM GeForce GTX 460 video card OS; SEVEN 64b Thank you in advance for your possible solutions ...... "
