MP Mission: "FOB Vetka" Over the past month, insurgent forces have taken a foothold in the northern mountain regions. Forward Operating Base (FOB) Vetka is under increasing sniper and mortar fire each day, and SIGINT sources indicate an attack on FOB Vetka could be imminent. This afternoon, a friendly resupply convoy, call sign Yankee 61, was enroute to FOB Vetka but experienced mechanical delays. At this time Yankee 61 is again moving up valley but will not make the FOB by nightfall. With recent insurgent activity in the valley, contact should be expected. ------------------------------------------ TASK 1. Meet up with friendly convoy Yankee 61 near the town of Ambrolauri (WP1) and provide CAS, if needed. Yankee 61 will be contacting you once on station. TASK 2. Proceed to FOB Vetka (WP2) and remain on station for CAS, if needed. Texaco is available north of Kutaisi, 150.0 AM, TACAN 10X. Overlord (AWACS) is available on 124.0 AM. Emergency CAS mission with 10,500 ft cloud cover. Requires heavy use of Mark I eyeball, rockets, guns, and efficient communications between flight members. *** NOW UPDATED TO v2.0 *** - current for DCSW 1.1.1.0 - minor edits/fixes - major tweaks to second portion of the mission http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/99420/1 point

Just to be clear, this indicator is not related to the AIM-9 missile. It's the MRGS, as others have mentioned, which is a tool for the gun in air-to-air mode. Gun, not AIM-9s. --NoJoe1 point

The export rate is connected to your frame rate. You can use RIGHT CTRL + PAUSE to see the frame rate information. For each frame the export functions can be called. Usually exporting data for every frame is meaningless (the data for instruments does not change much over a timescale of milliseconds) so time-based exports are usually done (eg. export at approximately 10Hz no matter what your frame rate is). This is the strategy employed by TacView. To discover how exports can be used I suggest you look at the customized export scripts of the following third-party addons to LockOn: TacView Yoda's LEAVU2 Yoda's GEAR (the successor to LEAVU2). This is designed to handle the exports for you so you can hook custom instruments up to it. It is a work-in-progress at the moment. If you search these forums you'll find the threads (particularly in the modding thread) that describe these.1 point

Roll reference, think of it as a ADI duplicator. If you are in A2A mode, Check page 390 of the manual, paragraph 3 Multiple Reference Gunsight (MRGS)1 point

I would like to make it look shiny, polished. :) But the effect of this polished the game is very difficult to achieve. Sorry for the bad english1 point

LOL, that's just evil! :D As for what I fly - nothing glamorous. Gliders and light motorcraft, and it's all just recreational. Was originally thinking about trying for a CPL-H, but then I found out the costs of that (was something like 80k dollars), cross-referenced my bank account, and decided to let it be. :(1 point

:D :smartass: He flies this. http://afbucket.s3.amazonaws.com/1950flyingbus.jpg here he is flying http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR-wN9C8SyIlWV0pIQRcE8b6c-fmWMqnFgCgxP-AFE4W6MNb8n1 Just kidding I don't know. As a Crew Chief, I love putting all the switches to OFF/Norm/safe and watch pilots get all confuse.1 point

Here is what I do to quickly get the CDU to recover from an asterisk error, or off a Z mark point. Just press number 1 for example on the UFC or CDU, then press the top left LSK on the CDU. This will bring up waypoint 1 data, and from there, you can create a new waypoint.1 point

I haven't tried it myself since 1.1.0.9 but the AI still has some issues here. Often the AI will hit the tanker and eject, which isn't really helpful to your mission's success ;-) One time I saw an AI jettison his munition and eject while his wingman was refueling. His aircraft was nowhere near the tanker though ...... (see attached screenshot)1 point

The key to consistently destroying tanks is to attack them directly from the rear and the top, or directly from the side and top where the armour is thinnest; to attack the armour as 'straight on' as possible to minimize deflections and ricochets; to attack from a steep dive angle so that the rounds cluster tightly together; and finally to attack from close range so that your rounds have high kinetic energy when striking the target. In short, you want to do this: Attack the tank from the rear and top (preferably), or from the side and top Attack with an angle-off of 0° (preferably straight-on, no acute angles) Attack with a dive angle of around 20-30° Engage PAC-1 as early as possible and for as long as possible Attack with a 1-1.5sec burst at 0.6nm or less, then egress in the vertical and horizontal at 0.3-0.4nm PAC-1 stabilisation before firing is preferable but NOT required; PAC-2 (firing your gun immediately) works just fine if you're short on time and your aim is true. Others will advise attacking at further distances for reasons of safety and egress and so on (which I won't argue with), but if you want to consistently kill T-80s in one pass, the closer you are the better. In a real mission with tank machine gun fire flying all around, you might prefer to kill them in two passes at longer ranges for increased survivability. How you fly your airplane to meet those parameters is up to you, but I generally fly a rectangular pattern around the target at 3000-6000ft, and then 'roll-in' to the target at reduced throttle when it's roughly at my 2 or 10 o'clock (using the right and left wings as a refernece). Then all you have to do is pull up 'into' the target and roll wings-level when the center of the HUD frame or pipper is centred on the target. From there you should be established in a dive of between 20-30° with wings-level, and with the target under or near the pipper. Adjust aim as necessary. Your airspeed should be somewhere between 300-375 KIAS, as you want to be fast enough to quickly egress the area and to have enough energy to respond to threats, but not so fast as to over-g the aircraft. So, Establish a rectangular or circular 'orbit' around a target at 3000-6000ft On the final 'leg' of the rectangle or circle, ensure the target is at your 2 or 10 o'clock using the wings as a reference Bank unloaded 100°+ into the target Pull up 'into' the target maintaining bank as necessary Roll wings-level when the center of the HUD frame or pipper are centered on the target Adjust aim as necessary (minimal banking should be required if done correctly) Engage PAC-1 when pipper is on target and adjust aim if required Fire at ~0.6nm for 1-1.5 seconds Egress in the horizontal and vertical no less than 0.3nm from target. I recommend always 'rolling-in' to targets rather than flying directly towards them because it's easier to adjust your aim when you're already banking and pitching into a target. If you fly directly towards a target you can sometimes get stuck banking left and right like a pendulum to correct your aim, whereas if you 'roll-in' to a target you only ever have one direction in which to bank, and then all you have to do is pull up 'into' the target and roll wings-level. The other advantage is that flying rectangles or circles around a target takes up a lot less space in comparison to flying directly towards a target, egressing, and then slowly setting up another direct run. The roll-in quickly beomes intuitive and is very versatile. I've attached a track to this post demonstrating the above steps. You'll notice that I don't actually complete a full circle or rectangle around the target — this is because I was already correctly aligned with the rear of the tank on my second 'leg'. I killed this particular T-80 with 110 rounds, which is consistent with my usual 80-120 rounds. You can use less rounds if you're closer to target, are are well-stabilised with PAC-1, or are attacking from a higher angle (tighter cluster). Similarly, you can also use less rounds if you want to 'gamble' about whether or not you'll kill the tank in one pass. NOTE: The track is recorded with the 64-bit executable and version 1.0.0.9. Using the 32-bit executable and different versions may result in faulty playback. cres_guns_kill_1xT80.trk1 point
