My first attempt at posting some nice screens...
JEFX replied to JEFX's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks guys for the appreciation! I took those a long time ago with Lockon 1.0 or the first patch... I had at the time a 2.4Gh P4 with ATI9800pro and later a X800XT. I have lots of more recent ones that are much better. I have now a core2DUO 6000 with nVidia the great card 7950X2 (2 in one). I will post more later. By the way, the coastal city is Jalta. JEFX -
Great film. How detailed!!! JEFX

Thanks ERICJ JEFX

Just to try JEFX
-
Lets try it this way (from Photobucket) Nice armada: how is that JEFX
-
oups I can see now that it attaches only a thumnail... How do you do it so that the image is already in the forum directly? By the way, where would be the command to add a picture or link in the reply to thread window? I just used the command 'attach file' below and it only put a little thumbnali? JEFX
-
Thanks ERICJ Lets try like this: I just uploaded it from my HD directly to the forum. What is the limit (how many?) JEFX
-
ERICJ Your screens are great (and your flanker skin too) thanks! There is a question I wanted to ask for a long time: can you explain to me exactly how you do post some screenies like that directly in the forum, with the right size, etc? I have lots of (Ithink) good ones and I would llike to share. thanks in advance JEFX

GG, How in heaven do you do this? I have a G15 (wonderful) keyboard and I havent found any use of the little display (except one thing: I change my system's time 30'' before entering a mission to reflect exact mission time and I can have a precise in-mission clock on the little display). One thing that I really use: I have mapped all AI communication macros to the 18 keys and it is quite useful to ask AWACS vector to nearest bandit or to ask your wingman to execute mission and rejoin, for example, at the press of only one button... thanks and happy new year! JEFX

Hi all! and Happy new year. I have a new problem. I have tried many things but I must say that I am a bit discouraged. My Lockon plays fine except that I cannot use overcast clouds anymore, the game crashes to desktop towards the end of loading... When I check the EVENTVIEWER of the windows administration tools, it tells me that the error message has to do with the file WEATHER.DLL in the lockon directory. This only happens now with my new computer. I use to have ATI and it was fine. I migrated to nVidia with this new computer, with this great new vidcard (7950X2) and forceware drivers v. 93.81 (quite recent). Yesterday, I was fiddling with the nVidia control pannel, and after reverting it to classic mode, for an unknown reason I was able temporarily to use clouds. When I booted the computer again, it was buggy again... Any recommendations? I really dont know what to do next? (by the way, I am using the 2 chips in the card in dualmode, one for my main display and the other one for my Lilliput screen with touchbuddy). thanks JEFX Core2Duo E6600, 2 Gig RAM, nVidia 7950X2, lockon 1.12a, etc. (CH gear, TrackIR, good HD, etc)

You can see many more (better quality) videos here: http://www.jet-man.com/performance.html The text is in french, but pretty self-explanatory. The guy is crazy! in a good way... Happy new year to all! JEFX

Little OT: Please, support LOCKONSKINS.CO.UK!!
JEFX replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
SUGGESTION: The best thing we can do is similar to many other things in life : if everyone does a bit, it sums up to a lot. Therefore, I suggest that all of us, seriously interested flyers, (and that means at least several hundred) make a small daily visit to this great website. It can be, for example, just before coming here for the latest news or even better, right after coming here, in order to post there some of the most interesting topics we find here... But regularity IS the thing that will help. I must admit that besides this forum, Mr wolf's and mr Weiss' sites (with Ironhand's) are the ones that helped most of us take full advantage of the great community resources. Thanks Mr Wolf and dont shut down, please! JEFX -
***RL film of SU-33 operations on KUZ wow***
JEFX replied to JEFX's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks Cosmonaut. You are right, especially the Kuz part 1 and 2 are great! How immersive! I think we tend to forget how this game is deep! One could play A-10 CAS, ground pounding, American and Nato planes, with US runway mods and USAF procedures for weeks, immerse in that world, imagine a scenario, etc. And suddenly, one morning, one could imagine he is on board the Kuz with those great Flankers with russian radio chatter, cyrillic HUDs and all... Not talking about the most incredible AFM in simulation history (SU-25 and SU-25T). The incredible variety compensate for some of the missing aspects, at least for me! JEFX -

Sorry for those of you who have probably seen it, but for the benefit of those who havent, here is a great bit of movie. It shows our beloved SU-33 in action, taking-off, landing, etc. operating from the Kuz. As real as it gets!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVDFPChBhSE&mode=related&search= enjoy JEFX

All those suggestions are great. I think that the ME is not SO bad if one is creative. It is too labor intensive, though and simple things like: copy, paste, save (groups, objects) would make our life so much easier (instead of starting always from scratch) and: triggers would make missions less predictable for sure... Lets hope those simple things are not too complicated to implement??? JEFX

Hi! I will answer you in your own text: quote: ''Hi, I yesterday tried the editor for the first time and managed to make a very satisfying war scenario with lots of action. I even got all AI A2G attacks to work perfectly. BRAVO AND WELCOME TO THE BEAUTY OF LOCKON. But, in the end it became a bit heavy for my computer so I need to make it lighter. I searched the forum and got some good ideas but I need some noobish advice on optimizing the mission. FIRST, OPTIMIZE YOUR COMPUTER (STOP THINGS FROM RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND FOR EX. OPTIMIZE YOUR LOCKON SETTINGS, ARE YOU RUNNING WITH HIGH OR MEDIUM WATER?, VISIBILITY RANGE? THOSE TWO AFFECT TEH PERFORMANCE HEAVILY... SCENES ON HIGH OR MEDIUM? WITH OR WITHOUT MIRRORS? ETC... What affects the most and makes a mission heavy to compute? Number of ac and vehicles or number of waypoints? THE NUMBER OF WAYPOINTS DOESNT CHANGE THE PERFORMANCE. THE PROBLEM IS PROCESSING ALL THE GRAPHICAL POWER NEEDED, THEREFORE THE NUMBER OF UNITS IS THE KEY POINT AND TO A LESSER EXTENT THE QUANTITY OF EXPLOSIONS AND EFFECTS. THEREFORE, THE NUMBER OF AIRCRAFT, GROUND UNITS AND EVEN STATIC OBJECTS HAS THE BIGGEST IMPACT. BE AWARE THAT, CONTRARILY TO OTHER SIMULATIONS WHERE A 'BUBBLE' CONCEPT MAKES ONLY THE VISIBLE AIRCRAFT TAKE A TOLL ON THE PERFORMANCE, IN LOCKON ALL UNITS ARE COMPUTED, EVEN IF NOT IN SIGHT... Is there a way to lessen the waypoints for AI fighter sweep missions and some other reoccuring flights like choppers circling some areas etc.? Maybe the begin loop and end loop function? How does it work? THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT DOES : IF YOU WANT A CHOPPER TO CIRCLE, PUT A BEGIN AND END LOOP WAYPOINTS AND TI WILL CIRCLE UNTIL FUEL IS TOO LOW. Will this lessen the load for the PC? NO. Minimizing ac groups: If the AI group lands, is there a way to send the same group back up after refueling and rearming or do I allways need to create a new group with preset time schedule? NO AI GROUP WILL REARM NOR REFUEL AND TAKEOFF AGAIN (ALAS). THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS AIR-REFUELLING, WHERE A FLIGHT MAY CONTINUE BEING IN THE GAME AFTER HAVING REFUELLED. BUT BEAR IN MIND THAT IF ONE AC FLIGHT LANDS AND ANOTHER TAKES-OFF (OR EVEN APPEARS OUT OF NOWHERE IN THE BLUE SKY SOMEWHERE) AFTER THE OTHER ONE HAS LANDED AND THEREFORE DISAPPEARED, THE TOLL ON THE SYSTEM IS NOT ADDED, IT IS THE ABSOLUTE NUMBER OF UNITS AT A GIVEN TIME ACTIVE IN THE GAME THAT TAKE THE TOLL ON THE PERFORMANCE. ONCE A PLANE HAS LANDED IT DISAPPEARS. Or even if they don't survive, can I resend the same group at later time? NO. YOU HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER ONE. How do I attach a escort wing to the group I want them to escort? Can I make an second flight for the bomber group and chance the plane type and mission for them? Is this the solution? No need to make waypoints for the escorts? IN FLIGHT CREATION YOU HAVE A FIRST OPTION TO CREATE A CERTAIN NUMBER OF FLIGHTS, AT THE TOP OF THE PANE. THEN YOU CAN ASSIGN A MISSION TYPE AND AC TYPE FOR EACH, AFTER WHICH YOU MAY ASSIGN MORE THAN ONE AC IN EACH FLIGHT, WEAPONS LOAD, SKINS, ETC. A GOOD WAY TO GO IS TO ASSIGN SAY FLIGHT 1 OF 3 THE ROLE : ESCORT WITH A COUPLE OF DEDICATED AA FIGHTERS, THEN FLIGHT 2 OF 3 : SEAD WITH A COUPLE OF DEDICATED SEAD PLATFORMS WITH THE APPROPRIATE AMMUNITIONS AND FINALLY FLIGHT 3 OF 3 TO YOUR BOMBERS WITH THE GOOD TYPE OF AC AND MUNITIONS. YOU SET THE WAYPOINTS AND ALTITUDES FOR ALL AT ONCE. BUT THE NICE THING IS THAT WHEN YOU ASSIGN YOUR ATTACK WAYPOINT (FAR ENOUGH FROM YOUR TARGETS), YOU CAN SCROLL YOUR VARIOUS FLIGHTS AND ASSIGN THEM DIFFERENT TARGETS AND TARGETING PARAMETERS. YOU CANNOT ASSIGN DIFFERENT TARGETS FOR THE VARIOUS AC OF THE SAME FLIGHT THOUGH. EXAMPLE RUSSIAN AC: FLIGHT 1 OF 3 WITH 3 SU-27 FLANKERS WITH A FULL LOAD OF AA MISSILES ROLE: ESCORT, ATTACK WAYPOINT : TARGET NOT SPECIFIED FLIGHT 2 OF 3 WITH 4 SU-25 FROGS WITH KH-25MP ANTI-RADAR MISSILES ROLE: SEAD, ATTACK WAYPOINT : EITHER THE KNOWN SAM SITES OR COORDINATES OF APPROXIMATE SAM SITE FLIGHT 3 OF 3 WITH 1 TU-95 BEAR BOMBER WITH A FULL LOAD OF IRON BOMBS ROLE: GROUND ATTACK, ATTACK WAYPOINT : COORDINATE OF THE BEGINNING OF A BOMBING LINE OF SIGHT. ALL FLIGHTS SHARE THE SAME WAYPOINTS. LEAD THE WHOLE THING FROM THE ESCORT FLIGHT GET TO THE PRE-IP AREA AND LET THE SEAD DO THEIR WORK. YOU CAN CIRCLE THE AREA IN CASE THE SAM SITES ARE NOT DESTROYED ENGAGE ENNEMY AC AT WILL WHEN YOU ARE SURE THAT THE AREA IS SECURE, FOLLOW THE PLANNED ROUTE AND THE BOMBER WILL PROBABLY DO ITS RUN OK. ANOTHER WAY IS TO MAKE ALL THIS WITH DIFFERENT FLIGHTS, WITH INDEPENDANT ALTITUDES AND TIMINGS SO THAT IT IS MORE FLEXIBLE. Any other tips on optimizing? Why do my F18 carrier group land to nearest land base instead of the carrier they took of? DID YOU ASSIGN THEM A LANDING WAYPOINT BACK TO THE CARRIER? IF THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH FUEL THEY WILL HIT THE FIRST FRIENDLY OR NEUTRAL BASE INSTEAD. HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK JEFX

Absolutely fantastic movie! I love the SU-33! JEFX

Hi ViperVJG73 I finally gave a try... I tried before changing the path and it is clear that it was already working (I could clearly see in task manager that with my path it is already working on one core only...) I made an experiment with normal setting (and it is clear that that load is split between the two CPUs) and with Procaff (and it is clear in the task man. that it is in one CPU only) and I see no FPS difference in a test mission... ?? Maybe that was more important for the first generations of dual cores (?) like AMDs 4500+ , etc... Maybe with Conroe it is not so critical? JEFX
-
Thanks Viper I will give it a try tonight. What do you mean by 'see the difference in the task manager'? thanks JEFX
-
Hi all I just made a test with my new E6600 system. There was NO difference before and after installing procaff in the FPS or fluidity. I did as explained on the C6 site : (instal procaff in, say, C:\WINDOWS and then , in the properties of my Lockon shortcut, change the target line to something like: C:\WINDOWS\procaff.exe /run 1 ''Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\LockOn\LOCKON.EXE"). Now when I run Lockon I see no difference. JEFX

To Sticky Sticky The nVidia 7950GX2 is ONE card (it is actually a double card in one slot with one Gig of video RAM) it is only on one side of the SLI architecture. I might buy another one in a year when the price drops but for LOckon only one is necessary. And it works great. JEFX

Witchking: I was already waiting for the last 6 months to upgrade (was ready, money put aside, etc....) and finally waited until Conroe hits the market... Of course, One could wait even more, but with my old system and considering that I could have bought something last may but waited until now, I feel I am patient enough... JEFX
-
Hi IguanaKing I was an ATI fan also... But reading and checking, it seems nVidia is a good choice... My 7950GX2 is manufactured by BFG technology. JEFX

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share my happiness!!!!!... Forgive me if you are jealous... It is not my point! I have been frustrated about Lockon ever since it came out... The ONLY really important thing about realism in flight sims is FLUIDITY... If you fly and your computer stutters, you dont feel you really fly... Finally, I just upgraded my system (an old P4 2.4 with ATI x800 card) to the following: Intel Core 2 DUO E 6600 dual-core processor with good ASUS SLI motherboard(P5N32 SLI-Deluxe SE), 2 Gig of DDR2 800Mhz RAM, nVidia 7950GX2 double graphics card (with on GIG of video RAM), 2X 250 Gig HD (WD2500JS) in ATA 0 configuration (virtually ONE 500 GIG fast HD), Thermaltake Toughpower SLI 600 Watt PSU, etc... got it 3 days ago... and it rocks... I run it at 1600x1200 (32 bit color) 8xAA 8xAF everything maxed out (even mirrors on high resolution and reflexions) except: Visibility range and Water on medium (but scenes on high) In normal circumstances I get very high FPS (50+) but even in very demanding areas (for example, flying low with an SU-25T above a big city like Sevastopol with some explosions and other units around) I still get FPS above 25+ and it looks totally fluid... I always thought that FPS numbers were a good evaluation criteria... I realize with this new system that what really counts is the following: I am ready to take-off on the runway with an SU-25T and some wingmen, near a big city, with an overcast sky and snow or rain, the FPS is not that impressive (25+) but still at least fast enough that you dont notice any stutter (a normal movie is 24 FPS). But the miracle is here: with my TrackIR4, taking off, I look around, left, right, I see some explosions or other units, static objects, etc, and the impression of fluidity (25 FPS+) remains totally realistic... I look at other units, the fluidity remains, I look at the big city, same thing,etc... It NEVER stutters of jams or slows down... It made me realize that the absolute number in FPS does not really mean anything (of course, with this system, flying above the sea only, I get 75+ FPS) but what really counts is the continuity of the fluidity... It was not cheap, but I am so happy. Just wanted to share with you guys (and people who are contemplating buying core 2 Duo, I really encourage...). JEFX
