Map making, are there unit limitations?
JEFX replied to CapnGimp's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks for the answer Brit, I had not seen it, was too busy lately... I was kind of expecting that too. Too bad. There simply is NO way to make a complex battlefield right now... I kind of am longing for the bubble concept again... JEFX -
Yeah, good luck Pilotasso! JEFX

RvE, you would make a good reporter! The guy is really cool, he is definitly a very strong person and exsude confidance, yet he is very gentle and caring with his 4 year-old! I must say they where both incredible... JEFX

Now, RvE, how did you get that so quickly and where did you get the picture? JEFX

Right on! Exactly! JEFX

Just thought I would share my pleasure with my forum friends. As some of you might know, I am conductor at the Montreal Symphony and we have a series of concerts in which we invite a personality to come, choose the program (with me) and we play the concert with this person there telling the audience why they choose Brahms or Mozart... Yesterday I was conducting such a concert and my guest was Canadian astronaut Julie Payette who is quite famous in Montreal. It was totally fascinating, both for the 2000+ audience AND the 100 musicians of the Symphony because the MC was asking her about her space shuttle experiences and she was describing everything in great details : quarantine, preparation, take-off (accelerating from 0 to 28000 km/h in 8 continuous minutes...), stopping the engines and experiencing their first free-fall-vomit-bags..., manipulating the cargo bay of the shuttle, the Canadian robotic arms, coupling with the space station, walking in space... Not only she is a hell of a smart lady (she has multiple degrees in various disciplines, she speaks 5 languages, she has 1000+ hours in the T-38 and she does deep-sea diving, she has 15 doctorate honoris causa from various universities AND she is an astronaut...), but also, she is quite beautiful. At some time in our preparatory Houston-Montreal communications I learned that she had played the flute at some point... Well, yesterday, I had her play a small piece along in the orchestra, with her good ol flute... The audience, (myself included, waiting on the podium...), was totally mesmerized by her tales. And of course we played, on top of Brahms and Mozart, some of the Star Wars score! After the concert, in my dressing room, we had a beer with her family and I met her husband... Guess what He does? He was a Canadian military F-18 before and now he is a test-pilot! He worked for a few years to develop the Eurofighter and now he is testing the F-16 Block 60 (I jumped out of my chair when he told me that!) and he will be shortly in the team of the F-35. Now THAT is what I call a special couple. I had an unforgetable night! Just wanted to share my excitement with you guys! JEFX

Walmis model is great, but is it normal that the jets at the end of the engines are totally white? They seem to be lacking texture (same for the air inlets in the front) JEFX

Map making, are there unit limitations?
JEFX replied to CapnGimp's topic in User Created Missions General
One question just popped to my mind (I am in the process of designing missions with lots of units...): Do any of you know if units that have not spawned yet but are in the mission editor's tasking order eat up some computing ressources? As an example, lets say you make a mission with only one aircraft : ... no fps problem. You make another one with one aircraft active at the beginning and, say, 50 more to come within the next 2 hours of game play (inactive at the beginning) : ? I have the feeling that the fps is much worse... Is it my fps-paranoid-imagination ? JEFX -
big 30' flat display OR TripleHeadtGo with 3 monitors???
JEFX replied to JEFX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sorry about being in the wrong forum. There has been so many threads about all sort of hardware related topics (Hotases and Saitexes and new computerses, etc) in the main forum that I did not think it was the wrong place. JEFX -
Hi! I am considering upgrading my display this summer and I want to know your opinion about this: Between a very large high quality display (say a samsung 30' flat display) and 3 medium size displays linked with TripleHeadToGo 1) What will give me the best immersion 2) What will be the least fps demanding (resolutioetc.) For now, my configuration is : Dualcore Conroe E6600, 2 Gig RAM, nVidia 7950x2 graphics card, fast HD with plenty of room. (I am now looking at an old CRT Viewsonic 22' p220f that was quite good a few years ago). I use LOFC at pretty high settings (vis range and water on medium) and I get a good fluid result with not noo many units at 1600x1200. I am kind of dreaming of THtGo with 3 monitors will be real immersive? Anybody using it can comment? thanks for the advice JEFX

Fred Bienvenue à ce Forum! (If you have some questions that you want answered in french Québecois, just PM me) You will never regret buying Tir4, it makes the experience 1000 times more immersive. No more fiddling around with hats and buttons to try and find the ennemy in the sky, just swivel you head, as in real life! As for your Hotas setup, you might want to consider CH products also (a complete set with Fighterstick, ProThrottle and ProPedals is a bit expensive but it is so well built that you might find some used ones on Ebay). They integrate very well and are fully programmable through one simple software. I have had my CH trio now for almost 8 years and they are used regularly. (I have gone through going from Flacon 4 straight to SP2-3-4, and all other Hitiles and mods to finally migrate to Lockon the first day it was out to FC1.12 waiting for BS... all with the same CH trio). I am interested to hear more about TripleHead2Go myself, because I was thinking of getting it. Do we have more people who DO have it and can speak about it? à bientôt JEFX

Hi guys, I just left Tokyo yesterday and this video is most definitely from Japan. The guys in uniform are official pushers and they do it with politeness and white gloves... I recognize their uniform. It has been like that at rush hours in the Tokyo metro for more than 20 years. Japanese people are the most polite and patient people I know but they are 37 million in one city... They have an urban savroi-faire that makes it feel not so big and overwhelming (people respect each other, stay in lines, wait for their turn, put a mask on their face when sick, wait or the light to cross the incredibly wide streets, never steel, etc...). As big as it is, Tokyo feels pretty good and welcoming. But they do squeeze each other like that in the metro willingly... It is quite surprising the first time you get caught in it... It suspends you litterally in the air. JEFX

Since we have this 'where do you guys come from' thread, I figured we may well have a 'what do you all do with outside of the lockon world' thread... Question of knowing each other a bit more. For my part, I am a musician. Formerly a violinist, I am Conductor in residence with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, working together with conductor Kent Nagano and I am now on tour in Japan and Korea. JEFX

Well, As posted in my profile, I live in Montréal, Québec and I speak french with a funny accent:) JEFX

Hi all! Sorry to ask this stupid question, I know it was discussed before but I did search the forums without finding the answer... I always thought that an Airbase becomes ennemy when an ennemy flight is schedule to takeoff from it right? I am surprised to see that even if I put an ennemy flight taking off at a specific airbase, my stupid AI (friendly) when out of fuel will still go and try to land at this same AB, therefore getting killed by nearby SAM... What is the trick to prevent AI to land everywhere? to just RTB when needed if I assign a CAP flight WP 1 (begin loop) and WP 2 (end loop)? thanks JEFX

Ho does LOFC plays on a wide screen flat display?
JEFX replied to JEFX's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for you answer Polecat Here is my graphics.cfg lines: DisplayMode { resolution = {1920, 1200}; bpp = 32; fullscreen = 0; aspect = 1.6; Interface { resolution = {1920, 1200}; bpp = 32; fullscreen = 0; aspect = 1.6; } Simulation { resolution = {1920, 1200}; bpp = 32; fullscreen = 0; aspect = 1.6; } AVI { resolution = {640, 480}; fullscreen = 0; aspect = 1.3333; } And the 3d world is OK but here is the look of my UI : ?? -

interface proportions? Sorry to revive this thread guys, but I do have a question : I did what you both said (Excelsior and Boberro), thanks again and it worked for the simulation (3d world). But even if I did change the proportion setting to ratio : 1.6 for 1920x1200 resolution in the Interface line, the UI is still streched not right? What am I missing? Thanks for the help JEFX -
