I notice that the logbook doesn't seem to update anymore. I use the steam version now. The file logbook.lua exists and gets touched (file time changes) but no updates are made. It is not read-only. When I rename the file an new one is made, but still my logbook logs don't update. They did update in the past, but it could be that this was from my non-steam version.

Funny. The Viper is a relatively low-powered block 40 decades old, and in the mean time we get a host of explanations why the shining new kit didn't even perform modestly well. It starts to become boring. They should release the next version of the F-35 with the great book of explanations, a hefty PDF if you ask me. I'm happy to hear the Viper is still going strong, it's one of the greatest fighters after all.

It is perfectly possible that the F-35 Thunderchief II had some difficulties against the Viper (Block 40!), but then again as said in many posts: it all depends on the software that was being tested, and flight control software in these kinds of jets is something that keeps evolving. I guess that on the basis of this report, if it was indeed the case to gauge dogfight capabilities, adjustments to the software will be made. There was a lot of positive news also these weeks about the F-35, which seems to me much more relevant: The F-35B did hundreds of operational flight test flights from the USS Wasp. In fact , this is a opening up a quantum leap in capability. Not only is there no discussion whatsoever that the F-35 is in all domains superior to the Marines Harrier it replaces (stealth, supersonic flight, range, payload, avionics, flight controls, ...), there is more: The US Navy fields 8 WASP-class amphibious ships. With the F-35B on board, these are now credible aircraft carriers able to strike from further at sea. Given that many other nations only field one or two carriers at best, the idea alone that the US Navy on top of its existing carriers will now field 8 extra ships with supersonic, stealthy aircraft capable of deep strike is shifting balances even further, to say the least. In light of that this dogfight story really does not mean much, in the first place maybe while the F-35 isn't even meant to engage in these kinds of dogfights.

One obvious error I made is that when I did dogfight with only heater missiles on the Mig, I left my radar on. This unnecessarily alerts the AI aircraft so they start spitting out flares.

This problem is solved; I had top delete files in my saved games folder, in particular a disabled modules.lua.

I'm doing some dogfights with the Mig-21 against AI SU-25's attacking an airfield. All armed with R-60M. That proves very very difficult! Not only do the AI SU-25's manoevre like the very best aces, they seem to be able to outclimb me in the vertical, and their flares are incredibly effective against my R-60M's. In fact, I managed to down one with the gun, but with the missiles it never succeeds, since even when they are hit, they are so rugged they just continue the fight. I myself have great troubles avoiding their R-60's however, since my flares do not seem to be effective at all: I have to manoevre like hell to get these missiles of my tail. My AI wingman is a to total failure that gets shot down every time. I must confess I'm an A2G guy, I really such at A2A. It's great fun however! FT War for airfield Mig-21bis.miz

Damn, indeed activation gone but no solution: the Ka-50 icon just does not appear and I cannot select the Ka-50 as player. What I find strange is that when I activate, the hardware code changes each time. I never changed the hardware on this relatively new PC.

All my other modules work perfectly. I tried to desactivate/activate many times but to no avail. Steam does not even show the Ka-50 icon. It is so strange. I moved my installation from c:\program files (x86)\steam to c:\steam, verified file integrity, uninstalled and reinstalled the module: nothing helps. Ka-50 doesn't show up. I manually verified activation: it says it is activated on the PC. I installed on another PC: Ka-50 installs without any problem in the same steam account. Weird!

Many airforces outside the US will use their F-35 multirole, including air defense; the performance will certainly be important, e.g. in the case of Israel, which might be interested how an F-35 would perform against Saudi Typhoons and Eagles. Besides stealth and agility electromagnetic superiority will be a key factor I would presume.
