Community A-4E Skyhawk Missions
sidekick65 replied to sidekick65's topic in User Created Missions General
Actually, I am planning to make a campaign out of these videos, once I get enough of the missions released. Quick poll. Which ones would you like to see released next? That being said. If anyone would like to help with mission development and testing feel free to message me. Also, if anyone wants some help making their own missions, then message me and I will help or advise if I can. Stay Scooter-Strong! -
Hold The Heights - A-4 Skyhawk and the Yom Kippur War
sidekick65 replied to sidekick65's topic in Screenshots and Videos
See the attached screenshots of a couple of books that were very helpful. Before embarking on this little project, I really didn't know much about the Yom Kippur war. I read the books and did a lot of flying over the Syria map while trying to locate the landmarks they mentioned. I have a video that includes a "battlefield tour" that also might help you get started. Good luck. Let us know how you make out -

Iron Bombing Range Mission A few people asked if I could produce a mission with the range that I have used in a few of my videos. With Rudel's help I have put together this mission file: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3312663/ It implements Ciribob's range scoring script It also has a "SAM Exclusion Zone" feature that, when invoked from the comms menu, will limit the amount of time you can spend above 500' when within 10nm of the target. It comes with preset configurations for the A-4E, the AV8B and the A-10c II. Here is a quick video showing some of the features of the range. Enjoy! -
Hold The Heights - A-4 Skyhawk and the Yom Kippur War

Comes The Dawn... Dawn on 7 October, 1973. The Israeli frontier in the Souther Golan Heights has been infiltrated and Syrian armour is moving through the gaps. But they have out run their SAM umbrella. Time to get airborne! -
Here are two track files in which I encountered the problem. Yes, I understand (and regularly experience) the issues with track files. Usually, the artifacts can be worked around - often they just seem to be statistical anomalies and a second run through resolves the issue. This seems to be a bit different in that the behaviour of not reproducing the as-flown results was consistent. And to be fair, I think that if the option of recording a track file exists it would seem reasonable to expect that it recreate the as-flown experience (at least with some fidelity) MOST of the time. Thanks for looking in to it. Let me know if it would be helpful to have a video recording of a replay as well. a10range1.trk

The issue was noted while flying a mission in which I did the following. - Located a desired target and slewed to it's location with the TGP. - Created a mark point - Repeated the steps for a second target - Later - came back and selected the first mark point on the HUD - Set it as SPI - Slaved a maverick to the mark point - The maverick identified the target, locked on and was launched and hit the target - Repeated the same procedure for the second mark point. - Mission was ended and a track was saved. Later the track file was replayed - No changes - other than activation of video capture - The TGP did not slew to the original target point - The Mark point was therefore designated incorrectly. - The same effect was evident for the second mark point - Neither mark point ended up near where they were designated in the as-flown mission - When the Maverick was slaved to the mark point as SPI it did not lock the target and generated the "no targer lock error" and did not launch. Clearly, this makes it impossible to use the recorded track to review the mission or generate any kind of tutorial video. The behaviour was reproduced two different times with two different track files. Each track was replayed more than once to ensure that it was not a random departure as occasionally happens. The error in TGP slew "appeared" to be consistent but that could not be verified. The same OpenBeta release was used to record the track files and play them back. I have the track files if that would be helpful.

Changing Which Countries Can Fly the A-10C II
sidekick65 replied to sidekick65's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yes, I can see that. Thanks. I'm not worried about breaking the IC for Multi-player. This isn't for a multiplayer mission, and not the way I want to play everyday. Just interested in creating some "what if" scenarios for myself to fly. So, I'd really rather have the plane flown by a particular country. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'm OK with modifying a lua file (if I know where to look) and then switching it back when I'm done. Anyone know where to find the country settings for the various planes? -
Changing Which Countries Can Fly the A-10C II
sidekick65 replied to sidekick65's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks. I understand how to assign countries to coalitions. But even when a new country is added to the coalition, the A-10c II does not appear in the list of aircraft that can be assigned when that country is chosen in the ME - or am I missing something? -
My apologies if this question has been answered somewhere else. A quick search did not turn up anything. Is is possible to change which countries can fly the A-10c II? ... and Is it possible to use A-10c liveries with the A-10c II Thanks

Episode 3 - Into the Dark It's evening on 6 October, 1973. Israeli covering forces are stretched the breaking point with Syrian armor opening gaps in the southern sector of the Golan Heights. Now, Syrian infantry, with the aid of Soviet provided night vision gear is preparing to infiltrate those gaps and blow the front wide open. The Syrian integrated air defense system is still in place and inflicting losses. What is one A-4 Skyhawk to do? Tune in to find out... -
For those who are interested in how they did in the Olden Days (like 1980), have a look. We drop some bombs using Iron sights in the A-4E Skyhawk and the show some basic computer assisted modes using the AV-8B Harrier, and then finish up with toss and loft bombing techniques.

We Are Under Attack The first war time mission in the series. Israeli covering forces are under attack and are hard-pressed by Syrian armor. The Syrian air defenses are dense and effective. What is one Skyhawk to do? Fly Low. Pop up hard. Find the targets in a hurry. And drop some bombs on the enemy... or die trying! -

Episode 1 - Prelude to War Here is the first episode. This is based on an action that took place in January 1973 in the prelude to the actual war. A little tune up without much active air defense to worry about.
