DCS NEWB, Amazing Thrustmaster 16000m HOTAS deal....Advise Needed
Ozmandi replied to PJPower05's topic in Thrustmaster
I bought the T16000M Flight Pack (stick, throttle and pedals) last May and would say that for the money($220) it was well worth it for me. Before I purchased the T16000M, I had a MS Precision Sidewinder and it was over 10 years old. The T16000M stick had more buttons but basically, it wasn't a game changer, BUT the throttle assembly was. Now I couldn't fly if I didn't have a throttle in my left hand. So, if you can, find a throttle asap. And if you are into tinkering - there are a couple small\easy modifications you can do with the throttle, one of which is adding an Afterburner Detent. I think the higher end HOTAS would have been, too much too soon, for me. Once I get used to what I'm doing and have learned most of the systems in the planes I fly, I'll probably upgrade but for now the T16000M is doing great. With the exception of one thing..... -
Here's a couple head-tracking options you could try that won't break the bank account. The PuckIR from Grass Monkey. I use this and it works great. Grass Monkey Simulations – Grass Monkeys Are The Best Monkeys! I've also used this one: This $10 head-tracking app makes Microsoft Flight Simulator easier - Polygon - SmoothTrack turns your iPhone or Android device into a head-tracking tool

I've noticed this a couple times now so I thought I ask if anybody else has noticed this. Instant Action -> Flaming Cliffs -> Syria -> F-15C Cold Start Missions Starts -> Startup -> Taxi around airport ->Shut down -> Mission End Lot of DEAD in the Mission Briefing screens. Anybody else noticed this? Oz

It's strange that I haven't noticed it before. I flew 4 missions the morning before I updated to the latest version and after updating DCS I noticed the bouncing gauge the first mission I loaded. So this gauge doesn't need to be electronically enabled? Because it's moving before I even turn the power on. Just this morning I tried a Cold Start mission where the plane is in a building and the AOA gauge was at it's highest point.

Wanted to give an update on the TRIM problem I was having. This details are in this thread: F-15C trim issues. - F-15C for DCS World - ED Forums (eagle.ru) Just a quick follow up question about this. So at some point the external fuel tanks would become empty and therefore, I could jettison them to same on the planes aerodynamics? If that's the case, then I should keep checking the fuel gauges to find out when those tanks are empty?
-
This may have always done this but I just noticed it after the update. My AOA gauge bounces around, from 0 - MAX. It starts before any power is turned on. The gauge needle bounces around the gauge from 0 - MAX. After power is turned on, the gauge on the HUD matches what's being shown on the gauge below. Has anybody else notices this?

@gilmour73Yeah, That mission was hard for me too. I kept getting shot down no matter what I tried. I did make it once, but with only 300.lbs of fuel and a dead wingman, so I considered that a failure. It wasn't until I viewed one of these failed missions in Tachview that I saw my mistake. I was flying INTO the SAM. I was so focused on the A\A missiles that I forgot about the SAM sight and would fly directly into it's range. Tachview also showed that I had out-maneuvering some of the A\A missiles but during the mission I had no idea I did. LOL The last time I flew it, I was able to out-maneuver the A\A missiles while staying out of range of the SAM and landed with a LIVE wingman. I learned a lot from this mission, it took several tries but in honesty, that's about the only way I truly "get it." LOL

I just figured this out today. A few weeks ago I created a mission with a long flight time(50-60mins). Nothing else going on, just a flight from one airfield to another. The first few times I flew the mission - the plane would get harder to keep level, the further I flew, and I was using TRIM to maintain my heading the whole way. It was so bad that if auto pilot was disengaged I never could engage it again, because I couldn't get the plane back to a level path. Yesterday I flew it again and kept an eye on the TRIM circle on the Controls Indicator Display. During the flight, as I TRIMMED, the little circle would stay near the center and sometimes not even look like it moved. The further I flew the TRIM no longer would keep the plane on path so I would need to use the stick to make heading corrections and at that point the autopilot would disengage. Once the auto pilot disengaged - the TRIM circle on the Controls Indicator Display immediately moved to the LEFT 3/4 of the way from the center. I could never get it back to center so it was a yo-yo-roller-coaster ride down to the Final Approach because the controls were so messed up. So, today I flew it again but this time I didn't use TRIM. I leveled the plane out at just over 40k feet and engaged A\H autopilot and the plane flew straight and level for 280 miles! I wasn't used to any of the planes ever flying that level so I thought something was wrong. LOL I plan on flying it again to verify it but from reading the previous post I think I know not to use TRIM in the F-15 now. REALLY would have loved to read that in one of the manuals!

Hello, I hope you can help me answer some questions about the settings with my controls. I have the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Flight Pack: Joystick, Throttle and Rudder pedals and noticed something strange. When viewing ALL settings it shows that "Wheel Brake Left" and "Wheel Brake Right" are not mapped. It also shows that it has Keyboard settings. When AXIS Commands is selected. It shows that the "Wheel Brake Left" and "Wheel Brake Right" are mapped to the pedals of my Thrustmaster Throttle. But they have NO "Category" or "Keyboard" information. Another curious thing I noticed is that "Zoom View" is not show when ALL is selected but does show up under Axis Commands. Anybody know what the problem is? Thanks for you time. Oz

I'll fly it again today to find out if I'm going too slow. I think I was maintaining a speed around 350-400 knots but will verify that today. Don't think my refueling door was open but will check it today. The deadzone on my stick is set to 4. I just bought it brand new last May so it shouldn't be wore out yet. I'll let you know how my next test goes. Thanks for your input!

OK. I asked that question because I'm having some stability problems on long flights. I created a long mission, 50-60 min flight time. Nothing going on just wanted a long flight to get an idea of how much fuel is used at high altitude verses low altitude. My problem is that the further I get into the flight the harder the plane is to control. When I start, I can maintain a level pattern and easily engage the auto pilot. But the longer the flight goes the harder it gets to maintain that control. It gets so bad that I can't engage autopilot because I can't maintain a level flight pattern. I thought the plane was getting off-balance because I wasn't using the pylon tanks, so that's why I asked. Thanks for your answer. Oz

Hello, I have a question about fuel usage when external fuel tanks are attached. Does the fuel in the external tanks get used before the internal tanks? And, do I have to manually tell the plane which tanks to use? I could not find that information in the manuals I have read. Thanks, Oz

Coming FALL 2018 Wow, I didn't know it was that far behind schedule.

I was finally able to land mission 7 The first time I got so excited I forgot to apply the wheel brakes and ran off the end of the runway, but hey I landed I've successfully landed it 3 times so far. I agree with @ia_pro1691 maybe breaking that mission into parts A and B would be better: Part A would be without the crosswind and rain and part B with the crosswind and rain. Overall I am learning how to operate and fly the F-15 with your missions, so great job!

I try to use every opportunity to practice my landings; so that's why I was going that far.

DCS: F/A-18C Screenshots and Videos (NO DISCUSSION)

I bought my first module back in May and was curious why certain geo-political areas of our globe were NOT part of DCS. I mean, this is a combat simulator that is extremely realistic, so why not have realistic geo-political hot spots available to campaign in? I flew Falcon GOLD and still have every map that came with it: Kashmir, Korea, Kurile Islands, Israel and several others. Most of those areas of the globe are still hot spots today! So I was caught off-guard when they were not included or even up for discussion as being added in the future. Over the past few months I've heard several interviews with some of the decision makers at ED. And in those interviews through 'innuendos' and things 'not said' I figured out that they CAN'T make some of those areas available. I'm sure they have contracts with Governments and Militaries and with those contracts come certain 'suggestions' about what products they should leave alone. So, with that being said, here's a different viewpoint about fictional maps. Why not create a geographical representation of an area on our globe and provide fictional names for everything: Oceans, lakes, rivers, mountain ranges, cities, towns, air ports and such. Everything gets a fictional name but the maps stay the same. I know this will never happen but it's an idea and the world is full of powerful items that began as ideas...................... Keep level and keep it straight. OZ

Any "sitting duck" missions for beginning F5 simmer
Ozmandi replied to MaxMorlock's topic in New User Briefing Room
Do you know about the User Files section? It's a place where other users post missions they create for others to download and fly. I've found some pretty cool missions by some talented people. From the main DCS webpage click Downloads and then User Files, or click here https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/ I did a quick search for F-5 missions and here's the result: F-5 Missions Here's one that might be up your alley. Operation Avar PAW F5-E3 Tiger II (PVE training) V1.1 When you want to up your game there are several user created campaigns available there too. Short notes and information I learned concerning the Use Files section. Maps you own. Some of the missions are probably made for maps you don't own. So keep an eye on that. Downloaded missions Open them in Mission Editor to see how things work GOOD way to learn what can be done with the Mission Editor Can use one mission to create several different missions by making changes and renaming them. I have used one mission to create 3 separate missions based on which plane I want to fly. Copy missions to your Saved Games folder \Users\_YOUR_USER_NAME_HERE_\Saved Games\DCS\Missions There are a lot of things available and can be somewhat daunting to new users, but if you start with the simple things (single missions), then over time you'll be able to try some of the other items. The biggest hurdle most people run into is where to put the downloaded file - remember "Saved Games." Good luck and happy flying! -
Mission 04 feedback. Between Waypoint 2 and 3 another F15 catches up to me and takes up a position about 2 meters right behind me. It follows my every move, turn for turn, up or down. I've flown this mission several times but always ended the mission after flying past waypoint 3, so that F15 has never been a problem. When I decided to fly to the next waypoints and actually try land - I ran into an issue. As I was making my final approach the plane behind me, dips way down and then back up and crashes into me. Killing both of us. At mission end I received this message: "You have committed Fratricide. You have lost all your combat scores." I'll fly it again in order to make sure I didn't do anything stupid.

These are excellent! At first I thought the talking was too fast but its just right when a mission is ran more than once. I've only gotten through 6 missions. That 7th missions is a killer - literally! I've died 6 times so far and haven't seen the runway yet. LOL What I like about these missions are that they don't try to cram everything about the aircraft into 4-5 missions. I can take my time and re-run them easily and quickly if I don't understand something. I've even ran through the start-up and taxi missions a few times trying to fine-tune my HOTAS settings. :) Thanks for putting these together! I'll leave more feedback as I go through them. Oz

Thanks! I'll be starting these later tonight :) AND YES! I would use the A-10A if you had them.

Chasing Aileron trim with Thrusmaster F-16 controller
Ozmandi replied to Pmedic548's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Do you have rudder pedals attached to your throttle? I had to disable my rudder pedals to stop that roll. -
This could be the problem I had. Since the last update I've had to un-bind my rudder pedals. When they are mapped every plane begins to roll when in the air. The FC3 planes were the worst, log into the A-10A in the air and i'm in a barrel roll straight to the ground. Unbind my Rudder pedals and log back into the plane - she fly's straight and level. So now I have rudder pedals that I only use for braking. The rudder pedals worked great before this last update.
-
Until I read this post, I had no idea that aircraft was part of FC3. I went and re-read the product description for FC3 and the J-11A is not mentioned there. After checking around in DCS I found that about the only way to fly the thing is to create a mission for it. Looks like a pretty slick plane, not sure why they hide it. :)

custom liveries in tutorial mission
Ozmandi replied to qbcat's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
I would like to know that as well.
