DCS A-10C landing with 100 knots of wind directly across the runway!
Rider1 replied to lobo's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Awesome! DCS Harrier. Hovered better in the A10 than I do in the KA50.. :joystick::lol: -
Is there a way to not have a "360" cockpit view?
Rider1 replied to jspec3's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes there is. Read the thread below this one, titled "eye point head position". Two things to keep in mind though. You will have a difficult time seeing the back panels and when you are doing ACM, you are NOT going to want to be that guy that doesn't have a full 360 panorama view angle. :) Also, look at Peter's realistic cockpit view mod while you are there. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally Posted by Cayenne Rider1, While trying to adjust HUD graphics myself, I stumbled across a head stop function that works with manual pan and TIR... I tried them all out, and decided to go with #2. Thanks for putting this mod together. Great documentation, easy to implement, and plenty of backups included. Thanks!

I found this here during the early beta, and I stuck it in my A10 file, so I can't really give credit to the op. This is how you adjust how much the head rolls. "view.lua> head_roll_shaking = true head_roll_shaking_max = 30.0 head_roll_shaking_compensation_gain = 0.3 roll_shaking_max is the amount it moves, while the gain controls the speed in which the view rolls." I don't have G force enabled right now, and i don't remember the exact settings I had during the first beta, but I do remember I turned them down and liked it much more. I may have to play around with this again ..

Free Book for Mission Make Some Fire and Smoke
Rider1 replied to dne48's topic in User Created Missions General
Got all 29 in 45 minutes. No speed records here. :joystick: Unfortunately, I missed the part in the rules about having to land. I exited the mission and DQ'd myself.:poster_oops: Here's the screen cap anyway. -
-0.03 is the sweet spot for me. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Now that's what I have been talking about! Between your anti-exorcist mod and Peters realistic view mod, it feels like I am sitting in a nice tight virtual cockpit. And you are right. The back left and right inner most panels are a bit of a problem. I can see them with TIR by looking under my UFC, then left or right, which is not very intuitive. :( Will have to do some more tinkering with snap views and such. Just a hypothetical question: Once the multiplayer community really gets rolling, are all these edits we are making in the view files going to be an issue when it comes to integrity checks do you think?
-
Really, really, nice. I like this a lot. Feels very natural and I think more realistic. Thank you:thumbup: And for requested feedback: I do have to raise my virtual seat to see the lower most portion of the hud. 1600x900 at 16:9 aspect.

Maybe you were doing it right.

I am not liking the random failures either. My squadmates live many time zones away and due to time constaints, we can only fly for an hour or so each time. Nothing like 20 minutes of that time wasted due to a random failure of an important system. Totall buzzkill. I hardly fly singleplayer anymore. I find myself being more concerned about a random failure occuring and less about enjoying the mision proper.. Any more, if that happens, I just shut the game off. Just not worth the hassle. Just because you can simulate real life down to Nth degree, doesn't mean you should. This is a game that simulates an A10 Warthog. If I were in a pilot living out my dream to fly and getting paid to train on this software, sure. Bring on the random failures an IFEs.. As a pretend pilot, with limited time, playing this game for enjoyment.. Not so much.

I guess the majority doesn't have their heads on swivel, looking all around the aircraft for for incoming missiles, enemy planes, their wingman and such, to ever notice it... :)
-
I totally agree with you that we will always need to take some liberties compensate for the fact we are sitting in front of a computer screen, and not in a real jet.. However the only point I am trying to make is, we should not be able to spin our virtual heads around like a top, and we should not be able to see the seat back and seat pan... The only two things I was ever hoping to be fixed all through the betas and release was the gun sound and view system. :) So I guess it must be my personal pet peeve, an not an issue for the majority ..

"the fact that they cannot model your eyeballs moving independently of your head? The only thing you do by restricting the 'head rotation' is restricting yourself mostly unrealistically." Is the human head able to spin continuously in a 360 degree radius on all axises? Last I checked, the bone and skin in my neck prevent that sort of thing :) Use the numpad view buttons.. See what I am saying? Not sure how much more unrealistic this can be.

OK, here are some observations for discussion. Boot up FC2 and hop into the A10A (or any plane really). Look at your default head position. Look left, right and down. See the headrest? Your virtual pilot is sitting with his head 8 to 10 inches forward. And notice how the view stops. Your head is moving and having the correct range of motion. You have blind spots behind your headrest. You look down and see your virtual pilots legs. The HUD is completely clear and readable. Now, sit in the A10C with the default cockpit view. Everything looks pretty good. Now look left right and down. With my TIR settings I can look down at my seat, and keep my view moving and I am now looking at where my ass should be. Look left and I see the headrest. Keep turning and I now can see 180 behind me. The whole back of the seat and seat pan is visible. Keep turning and I can now see 270 degrees to the left. Use the */ keys and zoom in. Looks good. Now zoom out and look behind you. Your view is not zooming, the plane is expanding. Fully zoomed out I have 360 panoramic view of the battlefield. Look where your eyes are in the default cockpit. They really are just about in the right spot for a human pilot. No dispute there. Its just that the view system has no stops and your virtual pilot has no body mass to give the illusion of actually sitting in the seat. For whatever reason, technical or otherwise, ED did not put in any FOV limits. Right now, my FOV is only limited by the fact my that my TIR cannot see my reflectors anymore. I have edited the view files and have a another TIR profile with some restrictions, and it works really well, however the HUD is messed up, and more importantly I don't want to be the one guy on the server that has a realistic view, while the enemy A10C player has a full 360 view of me maneuvering for a guns shot on his 6. :) I don't understand how we can have concerns about the oxygen meter is spinning on start up, and all of the other small technical details and procedures for the sake of "realism", however, no-one has ever brought up the fact that you can spin your virtual head 360 degrees on any axis, and that your are just a fully articulated camera, suspended above the edge of the seat in an empty plane. Mission 2 OK, I got my wingmen to take off, somehow I got clearance from the tower. I was taxiing down a random taxiway, And I got the cleared for take off from ATC. So I did. And my three wingmen too! We got to the battle line and I could see the tanks and other vehicles. I ordered Flight: Engage Tanks. 1.Negative 2.Negative 3.Negative OK Flight Fence In. Copy Flight: Attack Targets of Opportunity. 1. Negative 2.Negative 3.Negative .. I tried everything on the list of attack commands and they just kept repeating Negative. They had weapons hanging on the wings. All of them were in LOS of all targets. Am I missing a step or a command here? Rider

Sounds like fun times! Congrats on the mission and thanks for the AAR. I enjoyed reading it. Rider

Uh oh. The enemy AI has now become self aware and are broadcasting that hum on all freqs to jam comms and hinder the blue offensive! .. Yea I get the hum in your mission too. :) Rider
-
Between getting shot down, random crashes, the JTAC issue, and my dwindling attention span for this mission, on my 6th attempt, I went invincible and unlimited cluster bombs. I carpet bombed every single red target to oblivion. The city was on fire and it was beautiful, man... :) With no mission complete message and nothing left to kill. Landed back at base. Mission score... 51.

Track IR issues - Down to the left
Rider1 replied to Lonecrow66's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Let me throw on more thing out there that is pretty easy to test. ..Had the same problem with the new beta software. I could not look down and to the left to see those panels, it would hang there or just jump around. Was making me crazy. What I did is moved the camera to the left of center by 5 to 6 inches. In the camera view, the three green dots are now all to the left of center line on the grid. I also turned the speed up by one. Now everything is working proper and smooth, left and right side. Rider -
I have the same card here. Using high setting settings, 4x msaa, HDR. I get those lines as well, Also very noticeable banding where the low clouds/fog run up the side of the mountains. Rider
-
That happened to me to. I was flying well above the mountains, and I think it was Hideout or Serpents Tail. (Apologies as this was several days ago.) My screen became blurry, exactly like in your pic. My initial thought that it was that it was modeled in the game as if my O2 supply was off or had failed, and I was beginning to black out. (I seem to remember reading something about that being modeled, I could be mistaken.) I didn't have time to look to see if that was the problem, as I was defensive when it happened and was shot down shortly after. I am running an ATI 6850 card, no 3D software enabled, Win7 64Bit. Rider

Yep, I get that too. Georgian Hammer Mission 4.2.0. Un-pause at mission start, then crash. I was able to reproduce this 3 times. Here is the error.

Yeah, I am also thinking just the simple cockpit legs with the knee boards strapped to them like the user made cockpit mods for FC. I really don't need the hands and feet moving around, just something to cover that empty hole of the seat/floorboards when looking down. Would help with the "ghost cockpit", make a place to put a takeoff checklist and regional airport locations etc, whilst not impeding on the view or functions of switches etc. I am guessing that this may be something that the community modders may be able to address later after the release though... http://www.lockonfiles.com/index.php?/files/category/162-pilot-kneeboards/

CH Profile for A-10C and Ka-50

I use the pinky switch on the stick to engage the first stage PAC as well. Works just fine. It's also pretty easy to use that pinky switch to stabilize for your rocket attacks as well.. :)
