Wow that's shows some serious commitment right there. Now go study the manual an learn your start up while you are waiting.. :)

Hunter, one more thing. Track, IR. You didn't mention if you had one or not. If not, I cannot stress the importance enough of flying A10 with TIR. Besides your HOTAS, it is the single most important piece of kit to have. Some guys would say you can fly without one and yea you can. But you will not fly to your full potential without one. It shortens the learning curve as well. It takes constant fumbling with your thumb to look around. That thumb will be moving constantly on the other buttons up there. When you are trying to manage your view with the hat switch, you will not be as effective in managing those other buttons in a combat environment. Plus you will need that hat switch for trimming. You will be trimming quite a bit.. TIR is by far the best investment I have ever made on simming gear. Hands down. It's just that important. Myself and many others would tell you they wouldn't fly without it. It will work great on FSX or any other flight sims you may get in the future. And before you anyone on the forums tells you to RTFM, Your will really need to Read the Flight Manual, and study it. It helps tremendously.

Yes, most importantly, don't get frustrated. The curve is is steep, but rewarding. Don't go in to it thinking that you are going to be slinging bombs around and shooting effectively right out of the box. Start with the basics. Getting your new stick set up properly is the first order of business. Look at the attached file and try to mimic this layout as best you can on your stick. You will need to know what all of these functions do, as they are all critical to successfully employing the A10. Learn the nomenclature of these functions as well. This is important because if you ask a question and someone tells you that you need to use a DMS up long to make your TGP the SPI, you will know what button you need to use and and how to use it. Secondly, You will need to set up some curves and dead zones for your stick to tailor how your plane behaves depending your stick and flying style. For instance, I have a CH stick with a pretty good throw and very little resistance, and I am ham fisted, so I need a pretty good curve in there to smooth things out. You may fly very precise and smooth so you may not need as big of an adjustment as me. Do a search of the forums for everything related to tweaking your stick and and profiles and experiment until you find the settings that give you the most control. You do not want to be fighting just to control the plane while trying to figure out DMS up long. :) Once you have the AC flying to your satisfaction then start throwing in some weapons employment. Go out and shoot the gun at everything. It's fun and satisfying. Then start learning the AC systems. TAD, DSMS, CMS, TGP, etc. You get the idea. You will eventually learn these systems and will develop the muscle memory to employ them by instinct. Then you get to start learning tactics and combat employment. Yes, it will take a while. Stay with it. Read every post on these forums that pertain to what you are trying to accomplish. Search YouTube for tutorials on each system or technique that you are trying to learn. Once you have the basics, and are confident that you can start up, take off, navigate to the target, find the target, and drop a bomb on it and find your way home, hit up multiplayer and keep on rolling! Consider joining a squad when you are comfortable in the on-line environment. Hunter sounds like a pretty good call sign. I would keep it unless your squad mates decide on a better and more applicable one and change it for you. :) After my third or fourth gear up landing, I am surprised my guys didn't stick me with "Scrape". :) Good luck and have fun!

Why aren't hundreds of people on the servers? Because: A) Cannot connect, server ping time out, DCS has stopped working, connection interrupted, no master server list.. etc. B) They have given up bothering with it. The only server I play on that generally works is the one I put up for me and my squad mate for a few hours each night, no password. We see people repeatedly connecting and disconnecting and trying to join and play, but they never make it in. Sucks.

You guys go have a Dicks Deluxe and fries for me, will ya?
-
Where are you guys getting that World is still a Beta? I see some modules are still in beta.. FC3 CA sure. World is a release version. Or did I miss something?
-
Lived in Seattle for 20 years. May be moving up in the future. All my best bros live there and really miss it. Greenlake in the summertime.. oh hell yea! I'm back in my hometown of Eugene, and was layed off from my job last month, so yea I have some serious free time too. If you want, head over to www.virtual9thaf.com and post a message and say hi, or pm me here and we could set up some time to blow stuff up.

Yea, lots of good things coming in this patch, but so far no-one has acknowledged or hinted anything about the elephant in the room... http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=188 :music_whistling:

So you are saying that Nevada is done, all of the, buildings, massive city blocks, casinos, lights, etc in Las Vegas proper, and the Nellis Ranges as well? And when EDGE is done ED can just plug in all of that stuff and be ready to roll? If so then, fair enough. If all of this stuff has to be created still, wouldn't it make more sense to spend those man hours of design and coding be better spent creating and populating a real word conflict or potential conflict area? And I can think of so many places other than Nellis.. One's in.. Pickle... One's off.. Switches safe. Good hit One. Your BDU was right on the money.. Now what.. Ida know, lets put on some 38s and go bomb the Luxor. :)

hmm. Lets take the most highly visible, highly detailed over-the -top, brightest and garish place in the USA, or maybe in the world for that matter, Las Vegas and model it. Bad idea from the start. Seems like an awful lot of work just to have a place to learn the traffic pattern and gunnery work. I doubt highly that we will ever see Nevada with Edge. Now, take that effort and develop Edge with Afghanistan, and we would be dancin'.

I don't mind being patient and I don't even give it a second thought really. I have never griped about Nevada, am waiting patiently for a new DCS fast mover, and looking forward to your dream as well. It's when ED pushes out updates and patches that make things worse and break things that were previously working, is where my frustration comes to a head. Did none of the testers spend time logging in to pub servers and seeing how the connectivity and stability was or drop a couple of CBU canisters and get a slideshow like the rest of us are experiencing? Flight sims live and die by smooth game play. These are show stoppers for some of us.

30 fps difference in between A-10C 1.0.0.8 and World 1.2.2
Rider1 replied to FZG_Immel's topic in Game Performance
Thanks Winz for that tip. I will try it when I get home. And I have tried praying as well. That didn't help my FPS issues at all. :) -
There used to be. Broken by ED. Now the only way to tell if you have taking fire and to take evasive action is to A. see the tracers or B. when your caution lights all start blinking and your AC catches fire.

Enigma hit it perfectly. Last night I did a test. I loaded A10C, 1.1.1.1, the last version before World and set up the create fast mission. I set all of the friendly and enemy units to max, time of day noon, weather clear, and played for 10 minutes. Min FPS was 29 and max was 40. I have max FPS capped at 40. I booted up world and set up the the same mission with the same parameters and min FPS was 7 and max was 19. I have lost half my FPS with world, ED, and I would like them back, please. And that is not even taking into consideration the slideshow when clusters, rockets and extended gunfire occurs. I am getting pretty frustrated and at the huge step back this game is taken. Between this and the random crashes, its just not any fun for me anymore. Shame because A10C standalone is such a smooth, stable, really amazing product. (Loyal DCS A10C user since day 2 of the release of the very first public beta BTW..) Edit: I only play multiplayer. And 1.1.1.1 is pretty empty :). Except when I put one up for my squad.

Nice job Mustang. Looks beautiful and works really well. And if you change Line 158 in view.lua to this: CameraAngleRestriction[su_25T] = {1,125,0.4} You will be able to turn your head further and see the sides of the ejection seat, but not so far that you see the gap between the halves.
-
I would if I could. I only play MP, though. Less than pleased with the performance and stability of World.
-
Back when the beta first came out and I was learning, it would have been great to have Nevada as a training area. But now, I could take it or leave it. I get it for free, so I can't complain too much.. Maybe someone will build an "Invasion USA" styled mission for it.. Wolverine!

Simplified radio here as well.

Yep, this is a must have. Absolutely fantastic.

Do you run/use any mods / modified files?
Rider1 replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
PeterP's realistic eye point edit. MaxFPS edit View angle min/max to get rid of the fish eye and increase my zoom. Turned off the warning horn .ogg file Renamed the planewind sound files to turn them off. Renamed 3 of the GETF engine sounds to get rid of some of the engine sounds in the cockpit. An explosion edit, boom something or another that Mustang posted to maybe help with the explosion particle frame rate issue. I have had to redo these several times since the auto updater was released. I guess I am in probably in the minority that is hoping that the auto updates stop soon. Not that I don't appreciate all of the improvements that have been made as of late...but it is a little tedious right now. -
Also remember that if you are using edits in the config files, changing your Max FPS in the graphics config for example, you will need to go back in manually and check and re edit that stiuff too if need be. Kind of a PITA for me as I have head position edits, view min-max edits etc and every graphics or view lua push resets it all.. Hoping that the push frenzy slows down a bit so I don't have to do that everytime I play. Unless someone has an elegant solution ..

WarningTone1.ogg to: WarningTone1_OFF.ogg Gone for good

Try dropping the default 1800 HOF down a little. 900 feet or around there seems to work better for me. More like a big shotgun blast.

Ralfi, mine did that too last night! I was flying with Wolf on 104th. Got in the game no problem and flew and was shot down. I exited the game to check on my graphics settings as the server was really choppy. Tried to get back in and Bam right to the desk top. DCS has stopped working. Restarted my machine about 5 times and no joy. Thought I was going to have to do the reinstall dance, but when I tried it tonight it works now! WTH?
