  1. It is your opinion, but with all do respect, mine is different. First of all, each bird has its strengths and weaknesses. You have to learn them both, trying to utilise the first, and eliminate the second. You wrote about aim120, but this missile has been "downgraded" seriously in previous patches. On the other side, russian R-27ET is again "mirracle weapon", with "a little" over-optimistic seeker. Both these modifications were done recently and imho a little reality was sacrificed for the purpose of better in-game ballance. Moreover, it is not only about missiles, but also sensors, flight-characteristics, etc. I believe in DCS, MiG-29C with R77/R27ET combo can stand against F15 at any time. And personally I do not miss any opportunity to engage F15 1vs1 with my beloved "missile truck" (Su-33).
  2. GTX780: 2304/192/48 (shaders/TMUs/ROPs), 873/900/1500MHz (normal/boost/gddr5), 3-way SLI GTX780Ti: 2880/240/48, 876/928/1750MHz, 4-way SLI All the frequencies are standard, but there are factory-overclocked versions too...
  3. And *that* exactly is the point why desktop LCD-displays do not have high ppi-values. They do not need it! An average human's eye has angular sensitivity ~4′ (arc-minutes, that is ~0.07[deg]), give or take. That is minimal angular distance where eye is able to recognise two points. It is an angle at which you see two points 0.6 mm apart, from perpendicular distance ~50cm. Anything closer (on screen) does not matter. So either you look from very small distance, or you do not recognise anything more than ~50ppi.
  4. Tricks that work for me: - lock on formation-leader (with IRST, so that RWR does not drive him crazy) and watch his speed - trim pitch axis a little forward (so "middle" position is not where dead-zone is) - use pedals for left/right direction control, with "S-curve" sensitivity (good for small corrections) - use THW "speedbrake" forward position button for airbrake (needs some profile programming): airbrake deploying (and stays deployed) only as long as I keep the button pressed; as soon as I release it, airbrake starts retracting
  5. Because I did not receive value I payed for. THAT'S WHY! And you, as forum-moderator, should watch your language. I do not like that tone. That's sure *not* the way to handle paying customers...
  6. Q1: What "standards" you have in mind? Q2: You really think they can be lowered?
  7. Unfortunately, that explains everything... :-(
  8. I see it the same. All those bugs and instability issues are killing this sim (and its community). What is accurate flight model or clickable 3d-cockpit good for, if sim crashes every now and again? I remember those "FC2-days", when we had events with 50+ players, taking 3+ hours. You can only dream of it today. Well, that's progress, you can't fight it...
  9. I do not know exactly where these settings are (not using Saitek joystick anymore) but they *are* there, I'm pretty sure. They work the same way, and have similar possibilities to control axes (dead-zone, curvature control, etc.). Saitek Profiler is handy software, and you can do a lot with it. Much more than in DCS. For example, I use Saitek-profiler now only for pedals and I programmed them so that I can use it for wheel-braking in FC3 (normally you can not assign axis for it, only key) and even control intensity of braking (more I press pedal = more braking). Etc., etc.
  10. How much do you get from SLI (compared to single GFX)? +20-30%? IMHO, it is not worth it. If one GTX780 is not enough for you, then instead of buying the 2nd one, I'd sell my 780GTX and buy GTX780Ti. You get about the same performance boost for less money (less power-consumption, less heat-generation, etc.)...
  11. I do not understand your problem. I know you can have only one set of settings per aircraft in DCS, but let's forget DCS now. You can set-up everything (including axis-curves) in joystick profiler. So when you switch joystick-profile, you switch everything (keybindings, curves, etc.)...
  12. For me "freezing" TIR-motion temporarily was the best option. I assigned one switch on THW-throttle for it, so I can "prepare" suitable view (point, zoom, freeze) at the same time as I move my right hand from stick to mouse...
  13. This can be done by joystick-software, but it depends on which joystick you have. It sure can be done for x52/x52pro (and maybe x45), because I have used it: you prepare & save settings using saitek-profiler, and later you can switch profiles at any time, even while in game (iirc you can see current profile on MFD). Unfortunatelly, I did not find any easy way to do it for THW-joystick, which I'm using now. It is a pitty, because with profiler (T.A.R.G.E.T. software) you can do much more than in game, i.e. you can program key-sequence, key-repeating macro, short/long button press, etc.
  14. That sound to me like waaay far from being released, not to mention notoriously over-optimistic Wag's statements (no offence)... Taking into account sparse info we have, I see the second half of the next year (2014) as more realistic release-date of at least "somehow" usable version of the EDGE. And I would be extremely surprised if we get non-beta EDGE-based DCS:World before the end of the year 2014...
  15. You mean new bugs? Sure as hell are! Just waiting to be reported...
  16. Are you sure with that "early next year"? Your statement implies the 1st half of the year, but considering my experience with ED, I'm rather skeptical...
  17. Changelog: "...Fixed StarForce protection bug with false virtual machine error..." Could you ED please be more specific? Right now I do not understand what you mean by "false error": a) that VM-error was reported when running DCS on VirtualBox? or b) that VM-error was not reported when running DCS on VMware?
  18. I think he needs new GFX especially because his current one (GTX580) has only 1.5GRAM. He wants to run everything on max, so he will sure run out of GFX-memory. Moreover, with "new" models on market and prices low as never, I think this is the time to buy new GFX...
  19. R9-290 (some of them can be cross-flashed to 290X) or GTX780. No matter which one you pick, cpu will be your bottleneck...
  20. Actually I started first with Su-25T and it says (at the beginning) I have to learn first Su-25 (non-T). So I stopped it and went to 25-training. This has just non-interactive pre-recorded videos. And what is even worse, those videos are of very bad quality, low resoultion and have cripped voice. I can barely learn something from it...
  21. It's like saying "HD vs. SSD does not make difference in DCS". Basically true, except a few cases. As with PCIe 2.0 vs 3.0...
  22. You did some benchmarking? Because there *is* some difference: v1: 250MB/s (speed per lane) v2: 500MB/s v3: ~1GB/s v4:~2GB/s The question is not if it makes difference, but how much impact does it have...
  23. Being long-time fighter pilot, I decided to try T-frog. Because I have very little (read: none) experience with it, I wanted to start from beginning: with training-missions. First surprise came when I clicked on "training": some ~330MB "update" has been downloaded. But things got worse when I tried to run the first training-mission: there are actually none! All that's there are just some ugly, low-res, pre-recorded videos! The voice says "you can take over control at any time using Esc key" but by that I only stop video-playing. So where the hell are true training-missions, those we had since LOMAC-1.x up to LOFC-2.x?
  24. that was in 2009. But now, when curved lcd finaly become available, maybe they'd make even better...
  25. I think this is ultimate LCD for any flight-sim. Period. The only problem remains: where to get $8,000 for it? :helpsmilie:
