  1. Then I suggest someone corrects page-title. Mine says "ED Forums" as I type this...
  2. What about option 3: get one more GTX670 and run them in SLI? I think you would get about the same performance as from single GTX780, for less money... But if you can sell your old 670, then probably GTX780 is the best option (as of now). NVidia-GPU based cards are simply better in DCS than those with AMD/ATI-chips. What happens with EDGE is a question mark, but it is "behind the corner" for a few years. No reason to wait with hw-upgrade... So if I were you, I'd probably go with GiBy GTX780 (GHz-edition). That beast is incredibly fast. Comes factory-overclocked, and yet can still be clocked a little higher, and its performance is somewhere between "Titan" and "Ti". Should be enough even for 4k...
  3. It must be a damn big corner, because I've been reading statements like this for year or two...
  4. It is even more attractive project for us, because if I understand you correctly, DCS:MiG-23 (if ever released) would cost roughly 40% of the price you charge for DCS:MiG-21bis! :-)
  5. OMG, saying a bullsh*t is bullsh*t is no personal insult. Neither incouraging someone to use sound brain... BTW, check original post. It was not about 2x faster SSD, but "...the next generation of HARD DRIVES that transfers 2x faster than SSD...". That is simply impossible. It is much easier to increase speed of SSD, than hard-drives... Concerning SSD, for consumer-models sata 6gbit/s becomes limit. But you can overcome it even today, if you use pcie-attached SSD (either directly as SSD/PCIE add-on card, or using PCIE-controller). I'm having ~1.2 GB/s with 6xSSD in raid10 array (on server). Quite possible even with today's technology. All you need is a good controller, with at least pcie 4x interface. Even v2.0 is enough (~500MB/s per lane). No need to wait for next chipset just because of that...
  6. Bullsh*t of the year. Today's fastest hard-drives have maximum sequential r/w-speed 100-150MB/s (and this only on outer cylinders, it is not constant over the whole hard-drive capacity). SSD up to 500MB/s (which is pretty close to the limit of SATA 6gbit/s). You really believe suddenly someone comes with drives having transfer speed up to 1TB/s? How do you want to achieve this? Increasing rotational-speed by factor 10 (100k rpm and more)? Or increasing hard-drive storage density ten times? Come on, man. Use your brain!
  7. I wonder if there are true "3D" gaming headphones, which somehow detects your head position and adjust sounds accordingly (in similar way as TrackIR/Occulus adjust view): you turn your head right and hear engines (behind you) mostly through your right ear; you turn your head left and hear engines in left ear...
  8. With decent cooler all 2500Ks can be overclocked to ~4.5GHz. I think it is still very good CPU, not worth the upgrade. I'd go for new GFX instead. Exact model depends on your budget, but as of now NVidia-GFX work better in DCS than AMD/ATI (might change in EDGE).
  9. Well, you must admit this uncertainty takes quite long time already (~2 weeks), and the longer you wait with official statement, the more you feed speculations...
  10. Even server with flyable FC3-planes is still "only" server running DCS-World. There is no FC3 beta module on server side. And if DCS-World server crashes because of clients running FC3-beta, than it is apparently problem with server too. It should filter any invalid data from clients out, eventually disconnect them if necessary as its own protection...
  11. With all do respect, DCS-World is for long time not beta-version (well, at least it is said to be so). And for running server you do not need anything else except for DCS-World. So if server is crashing, it is not because of FC3-beta...
  12. Attention, big change! Now I see simply: Server Overload. And updater just closed. "Congratulation" ED...
  13. For exactly 7 hours and 42 minutes I have been trying to update to 1.2.7 and ALL I GET is message: Servers are unable to complete your request. Please, try again later. Never since DCS:W was released did I have such a problem with updating, as now. Well ED, this is getting from bad to worse...
  14. I know there must be at least one :-) girl flying DCS. She was a few times on our TS, even flying with us. One of our group members even met her personally. But that was some time ago and she does not fly with us now. I think she was discouraged "a little" by our harsh language... :-( And then there are girls flying virtual aerobatics. You could hear a few of them during the last VFAT...
  15. You see yourself that bigger drives usually offer better price_per_GB ratio. Except for that, 250GB is simply better than 120GB version (both of 840Evo type): has bigger cache (512MB vs 256MB), higher write-speed (520 vs 410MB/s) and higher write-IOPS (66000 vs 35000). There is no reason to buy 2x120GB. Even wear-leveling will be better handled by one big drive...
  16. This is not always disadvantage. Having shared cache or RAM makes swapping process from one cpu/core to the other (which is done always, unless you prevent it by setting cpu/core-affinity) faster and without stutters caused by delays due to moving cache content from one cpu-cache to the other, or from one RAM memory bank to the other (i.e. in case of NUMA). Otherwise I fully agree. As of now, Intel seems to be better choice for gaming (at least for games that depend on cpu). It really does have higher per-core pure power, even with lower frequency...
  17. WTF is "Terung", "Annuleren", etc? No matter what I click, it does not take me further. Just "helpdesk" works, well, sort of. It takes me to some page in language I do not understand at all. I even tried IE just to see if it looks the same. It does... Am I suppose to learn dutch just to register? That might be "a little" problem, as I've heard it is difficult...
  18. Just a side note: setting cpu/core-affinity has negative impact on thermal loading (normally OS takes care of it by moving process from one core to the other). So if you do this, at least assing DCS to the core which is cooled the most effectively. As you can see on , on fully-loaded cpu differences can be quite signifficant, from 63 up to 96 degree celsius...
  19. Nope, volts are the same. Limits for max. current are different: USB 2.0: 500mA (so max. power 2.5W) USB 3.0: 900mA (4.5W) (I'm not going now deep into details i.e. "power-over-usb" or "usb-battery-charging" connectors, etc.)
  20. I've been having wireless desktop (mouse+keyboard) for many years and I do not have any problem with it. But I use it basically only to start DCS. Everything I need in game is mapped on my THW...
  21. I think you misunderstand a little that cpu- and ram-usage values. Cpu-load 45-50% means one core is working on max (yes, DCS is still pretty much single-core app, with exception of sound running on 2nd thread). I'm pretty sure if you display per core/thread cpu-load, you will see one running closely to 100%, while the other is nearly 0. That makes an average ~50%. And concerning RAM, *every* modern OS (yes, including Windows) goes by the rule: Any useful using of RAM is better than not using it at all. If not required by running processes, it will be used for disk-cache and input/output buffers (the longer is OS running, the more of free RAM is used for this). Of course if necessary, this memory is freed when needed. So look into "Available" value in TaskManager, not "Free". BTW, with 2Mbit upload, I think reasonable max is 8 players (depends on complexity of mission). If you have much more players, some of them might loose connectivity. But not because server-ram...
  22. I do not know any "X55", but there is Saitek X65F Pro. Looks quite good with its metal base, sure more solid than all-plastic X52. But it has non-moving stick (some pressure sensors I think) and I personally could hardly get used to it. And then, THW costs just a few bucks more, so no need to make compromises.
  23. No, AIM120c is the same. Players in MP are much better than AI...
