Derek, DCS doesn't support direct mode yet.
-
I found dxtory gave me that issue you have with the line. I think it was sync tearing, its vertical instead of horizontal because the screen is running in portrait mode. I wonder if we change the limiter to 74 or 76 if that might fix it. I notice some games only pick up the rift as 74hz.

The plugin for prepared has a quick zoom and it is quite functional, no side effects. This is my take on the gauges. you can't really read them. Who knows what sort of resolution will be required or if it will happen with the CV1. Secondly, depending what gauges you are talking about depends if you need to read them. I can glance at some gauges and clearly see where the needle is pointing. I don't need to know what value it is as I basically know from where the needle points. Thats the gauges, the next question is does it matter too much for gauges? Depends what planes you fly as to how important they are. A lot of flight simming can be done without having to know the miniature of what your gauges are doing, if you are a VFR flyer then only a couple gauges are really necessary and you can tell by needle position if you are in ballpark. So some planes and some type of flying may not be the best but that doesn't rule out flight simulation as a good experience in the rift. It may just rule it out for some of you flying some particular planes, fair enough but that doesn't cover the flight sim genre as a whole by a long shot.

Did I waste money on a 3dconnexion mouse?
metalnwood replied to mooshim's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The space mouse requires the software to support it through it's SDK. It doesn't show up as a joystick as far as I know. I think their website has a list of supporting software, most of it being what it was made for though, CAD, 3d modelling etc. -
move over Oculus... new kid on the block
metalnwood replied to chaos's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Looks to me like different things for different purposes. I have been doing a good amount of racing in AC as well as the odd fly in DCS with the DK2. The Magic leap is an augmented reality device that could never give the same experience as a VR headset for these applications. Lots of stuff augmented reality would be good for but also applications that VR is best suited for. No one device will be the best for both purposes. -

Thanks, I will check out the oculus forums, last time I looked some people were able to change configs but it was hit and miss and seemed to not work well for people with large IPD's, which was me. Thx.
-
So war thunder has solved the IPD issue making it unplayable for more people than could ?

An option is to set a custom resolution for your monitor and have it going at 75hz. if you use virtual desktop then use your rift to change the resolution as you will possibly have to turn off your monitor so it doesn't get a signal it can't handle. By accident I left my screen on, a 42" tv and found it sill worked. When I asked the tv to show me what it was running it said 1080p 75Hz, so you learn something everyday. I now know my TV does 75Hz but yet to run DCS to see if it is smoother.

Sorry, I cant remember which model but it is not the latest anymore so they wont be around. I checked about and LG seemed to have a good game mode with low lag so I bought one and tested it. It worked fine without any noticeable lag so I got the other two.

Detecting new keys while holding down others

THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG>>> is it because I am on a mac? still works.. -
I went from 3x42" screens to a single one. Before that it was 3x 27" screens. Happy enough with the single 42". My expectation ongoing is that the single 42" will be only for sims that don't support the rift and where I need a desktop.
-
For my flight sim I went from 3 screens to a single tv and with trackir I find that it is better because the frames are much better. With trackir you still pretty much look at the centre screen even with three screens and without using trackir I find the distortion on the sides too much. It does seem cool in the beginning with the extra peripheral but once it was gone and I got used to the peripheral being gone I didn't feel like I was missing out on much. I went that way in preperation of the rift and can't say I am unhappy.

THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG>>> apart from the three dots at the end turning in to brackets it went ok? -

I don't know for sure but it does seem that this behaviour might be expected. How could DCS know your intent is to fire the gun, i.e. press space while you are holding other keys. With so many keystroke options I can imagine it would be somewhat ambiguous. edit, you may be right with the a10c as most other aircraft are only off/on so you don't need to hold down the keys for X length to retract the brakes so with other simpler aircraft you are not holding down the air brake key. -
Did the update and the annoying jittering cockpit is gone, nice first step. Hopefully the new engine will get us in to the require frame rates for low latency and we are going to have it made. I still find the instant action of the default su25t 'dusk landing at mozdok' to be one of the best, the horizon is nice, there is a good sensation of speed and the ground textures look very realistic for the dusk lighting. Really nice having those fields start to whiz by as you come in for landing.
-
Stutter gone? I better get the update then. I see that there was an update for the prepar3d oculus plugin. I write it here because they implemented time warp and boy has it made it a lot smoother without having any more frames. So obviously there is something that can at least help compensate for lower frame rates and give you a better experience.
-
You are luckier than I. I have already done the maxfps in the config file. Also tried using dxtory to limit to 75. BTW, I think this had an effect, subtle but it has not cured the jiggling cockpit.
-
Exactly, this is a different issue thats got nothing to do with other lights in the room. If it was then it would obviously give your problems in other software and in dcd the whole frame would jump, not just the cockpit. I have had it from day one and on the dcd thread in the oculus forum this is one of the main complaints.

It doesnt really work the same way as monitors. I understand where you are coming from with monitors, I liked the 16:10 (1920x1200) monitors over the 16:9 (1920x1080) monitors but this aspect of it is not very relevant. It does require more resolution though. You need to try one and you may very well not like it because of the resolution but you may very well decide that the resolution is not going to be the final determining factor all things considered.

I haven't done any dogfighting in the rift with DCS. I just tried the p51 vs 109. Just found the biggest problem with the rift and dogfighting. You need a tight set of headphones. My g35's are not up to the task. Every time I get in a dogfight they end up falling behind my back. The range of movement is so different from trackir that they wont stay on. On the plus side following the aircraft is much more natural than with TIR but seeing right behind you is more of an issue of course.

Never tried the MFG's but I am sure they are OK. Common ones are either a saitek model, e.g. combat pro, cessna, etc. All basically the same thing but look a bit different. The other one is the CH pro rudders. I have owned the saitek combat pedals and the ch pedals. I replaced my CH pedals with the saiteks because I wanted wider pedals. Also I rest my feet on the pedals and there is more or less no resistence in the ch pedals so its easy to be applying rudder when you dont think you are. Both are good.

Recommend a Great Joystick for DCS?
metalnwood replied to Visceral Raptor's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Nope, the old cougar stick did but the new warthog stick as is precise (more so) than any other stick I have used. It def has hall sensors.
