Try this one, designspark. http://www.rs-online.com/designspark/electronics/eng/page/designspark-pcb-home-page I dont use it but have had a quick look at it, it will probably have a better library of components to use as it is done by rs components so if it has a lot of their catalog then you will be happy. Making the pcb is easy enough but if you have to drill all the holes you may not like it by the end. One other option is design your pcb for surface mounted switches, that may be easier for a lot of switches.

This is hard to read... Not because you have got bugs but because I am still months away from my DK2 and even being able to have problems! :) I will be jealous when you have it going but I am really looking forward to your first impressions, even if it will be on dk1.

Must have been the browser on the mac having a day off, working on my pc now.. I must admit, it could depend on how you have things set up. I sit in an aces II seat with a centre mount so blindfolded my hand goes straight on to it without issue. If I was sitting at a desk with it off to my right it would not be nearly as easy.

I don't know why I can't quote anyone…. Anyway, responding to a couple posts. There was a very good VAC profile for radio comms, It worked perfectly but then broke after a patch when the menu's changed. I am not sure if it ever got fixed but that was the most natural way to use the radios and would work well in the rift. I have a feeling I will give up all other controls other than my hotas, which I can use blindfolded. Between that and the mouse should be OK, That is how most of the dcs population currently have to do things anyway. I have a feeling that with a camera on the rift you will feel quite strange jumping in and out of the virtual world so suddenly. The advantages of the castAR are obvious if you want to fly in a real pit, I am just not sure that the lesser immersion of the castAR will be that great. Of course the A10 and the black shark are the only real complex aircraft at the moment and other sims are all controllable on a hotas. I have a feeling that BOS will be a blast in the rift and no issues with real pits as the controls are simple enough.

Depends what it is, nothing wrong with big buying power.. I can get 10x42" tv's for less tha you can get one 42" tv but someone who is prepared to buy 500,000 units can get 60" tv's for less than I pad for my 42" screens. There isn't any mystery there. We are not talking about some guy off the street selling you something too good to be true, we are hearing the result from the scale of economies that have opened up for oculus.

Time to dabble in CNC. Shapeoko 2 on the way
metalnwood replied to JaseGill's topic in Home Cockpits
Even on my larger machine which I had a few bigger commercial options I wanted to go with mach3 because there is good support for various plugins and things you can do that are not so easy on dedicated controllers. The price for it is not too bad at all. As far as the software to do design and spit out the gcode I am not that familiar with any freeware or really cheap stuff. For most of the work I do where I will use the cnc router I use vectric software which has vcarvepro, cut2d, aspire. I think cut2d, one of their cheaper options would do everything you need for panels while vcarvepro is more useful overall when doing a variety of things the cost is a lot more. -
Question on PVC sheets and static charge
metalnwood replied to Lausbub78's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Lucky only the hairs on your arms stood up. I remember separating a couple sheets that were 1200x600 and then next second I touched something, wham! a lovely big bugger of a shock. -
Difference between TV or Monitor for playing
metalnwood replied to rajdary's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I play on 42" LG tv. I like it a lot more than on a monitor. You will get a 60hz refresh rate, you will not get 200Hz. That's all marketing stuff based around post processing that goes on in the TV. It doesn't have anything to do with how many frames you can send to the TV from the computer. -
Making anything for yourself is fine, especially of a stick which is not the IP of thrust master whom themselves has made a copy of another product. I thought I had seen a model about somewhere but can't see one right now, this is the closest. It could be a start http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3dsmax-fighter-jet-stick/620141

Here is a quick view of CAN. It was implemented on a number of TI chips I was looking at so when I was thinking about panels it was an obvious choice to use. http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sloa101a/sloa101a.pdf

I found the most popular length was around 4". Mine is about 80mm and I like it, it's between my legs but not so much movement that I am hitting myself all the time. The longer the stick then in theory the more precision but even the small 80mm is a huge improvement, it fixes the stiffness in the stick and allows you to make small adjustments easily with your arm, not your wrist. I think 80mm is as good at 150mm as far as precision. Both are much better than stock. The length really depends on preference and what you are trying to do. Eg, floor mount it and you need a long extension. If you are happy to have the base high then you can go short and not worry about the wide throw the stick has and the loss of resistance.

In a Q&A thread between users and Lockheed martin there is an interesting answer to upcoming features.. Looks like Oculus is something they are looking in to.. That is a great question. We cannot comment too much on or promise unreleased features or plans, but we are committed to Prepar3D v2. With our new patching system, we can release patches more frequently than before and customers won’t have to do a full re-install with each new version of Prepar3D v2. As far as potential for future features go, we are currently looking into cloud shadows, radar modes, oculus integration, exposing more information to addon developers, true SLI and Crossfire support for multiple graphics cards, additional performance across multiple views, as well as a very robust memory management system that helps give users the control over their memory in the simulation that they need.

I would take Lynx over IE.

I am watching the new cards and the price of the 290 looks good for the speed but I still think that for some time I have suffered with worse image quality on sims like dcs, fsx, xplane by using AMD. On a small screen it probably doesnt matter too much but better AA is more noticeable on a 42" screen

Only one question. The base is already at seat pan height, where on earth are your arms when you use it? I assume you will mount the base lower now? Hah, you got your second post in as I was typing the above :)

Violent change of view using TrackIR 5 Pro
metalnwood replied to blackbelter's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You probably need to change where the TIR is pointing or possibly move it left/right. It's losing your dots or leds, thats when it goes crazy. If you cant stop it then turn up the sensitivity a bit so that you dont need to turn your head so much to get the change of view in game. -
Nice stuff Deadman, I am sure you are going to make something special out of it.

Aluminium extrusion like that is used all the time in the racing sim community. It does let you make changes easily and add thing on. 8020 extrusion is one of the popular ones but anything similar you can get hold of locally will do the trick.

Nobrot, any reasonable software should be able to take these PDF files and import them directly as vectors. I have looked at these files and they are indeed in vector format with correct MM sizes. By that, I dont mean that they may be accurate for each panel but the files have the sizes in them that reactorone intended so if you printed the pdf 1:1 it would come out correct and if you import it to your software it should also come out correct. PDF's are essentially vector files although they can encapsulate other content.

How to sell products to forum members?
metalnwood replied to Stevos758's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I dont think there is a problem, quite a few people including myself have sold items through the forum. I would show it off in this forum and say you are selling it and then also post in the for sale section under the pc/hardware section. -
Also just saw this option in another thread. http://www.simsit.biz Not exactly looking the same part but functional.

I know you said no ackers etc but I will post this anyway. I made an ackers many years ago so I know the size of it, its too big. This is Flims seat built from his plans. It's light and the footprint is just the base of the seat, you dont need to attach the floor for the pedals. It slides along the floor very easily so it's no problem to move in front of the tv and then pull away. I am using a 42" screen with the TIR on top. When a short person tried it I had to push the TIR forwards and it picked up the leds fine. Actually, more than forward, I had to use a bit of tape to lift the back feet up so it pointed down a bit more than it could from its own base. Easy to do though. Flims seat can have two shelves, one for throttle and one for whatever else you want to put there. Small footprint.
