Why can't the controls just work in this game?
metalnwood replied to TeamMM3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think anyone suggesting that was aimed at the OP, not you. -
I see that the prepar3d team at lockheed martin were early backers and are interested to see what they can do.
-
I dont think that they wont think about it but it doesnt seem on their list right now. Trackir is a bit different though. You cant have a serious flight sim without trackir support. Maybe in the future it will be the same for HMD's

I dont disagree with you but I can only guess as to the why. Can't wait for arma 3 and a really high res OR.

All the docs will be inside the game folder. I forget where but search for the PDF's and they will appear. You want to look at the one for the A10, the others wont help for a10 specific buttons etc. The CDU is useful but it has just shy of 70 buttons on it. The CDU is often repeated on the MFD as well. Here are a couple of tips as you are new and may not already do it. Read about and search for how to manipulate the views to create custom views. This way you can map some of your buttons to go to a custom view quickly, e.g. the CDU. If you orientate it with the right zoom you can have it pop up with a front on view at a good size so it becomes very easy to manipulate the buttons with your mouse, just like an on screen calculator. Similar for mfd's if you want or other frequently used cockpit panels eg the radio panel. As far as the radio panel you can connect rotary switches to your controller so that they can be turned left/right corresponding to tuning the radio. Of course there are 4 rotaries per radio so 8 buttons each one, they go quick and depending how you want to sread your 32 buttons around you may just want to program a front on view for the radio panel anduse the mouse.

You are already doing it hard with the kind of joystick you are using. If it were me... I would use the cheat key to start the aircraft. I am using helios with a touchscreen as well, if I were not then cheat startup for sure. Once you have the sim starting the aircraft then I would go back to basics and whats really required like mentioned above AHCP, landing gear, maybe mapping things used on the hotas that you dont have buttons for as they are used more than most panel buttons.

As already said, if they want it they would have one on order. $300 isnt going to break the bank and if anyone bought one for ED it would be $300 wasted on their part until ED want to do something about it. It would cost ED considerably more than $300 to integrate it and that cost + resource is no doubt why they are not thinking about it right now. Especially for something that isnt commercially available or proven. As much as I _do_ want them to adopt it......

Why can't the controls just work in this game?
metalnwood replied to TeamMM3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think they are different because there are different options. The game mode has dumbed down options so while you might want a function X on button Y on your stick in sim mode that function X may not be available in game mode and you want to map button Y with something else. -

They can and they have! It would seem you are doing something wrong ;) Check that your rudders are mapped to 'rudder' and not to pitch or roll. Multiple devices can be mapped to the same function and what DCS sets by default may not be what you want. You have to check. -

Good stuff, amazing how the thread on the hog just happens to be the same as some commonly acquired garden hose :) -
This is my best oculus demo so far... No 3d glasses that dimmed the image. Just nice stereoscopic 3d thats nice and bright and high res. Even if the image is somewhat smaller :) With moments of nothing to do just before picking up the kids I drew this on the computer an d cut it on the laser so I could see the haven demo on the phone :)

As far as I know there is only one roller coaster simulator still going and they are opengl.. Maybe if they get their A in to G they could support it. This as well as the small personal motion platform would also make for some OR fun :)

Looking for a HOTAS Warthog Stick Extension

If it works for you then thats all that matters! I had feedback from five or six people that tried this and didn't like it because either the movement was too much or they didn't like that the stick did not return to center by itself. The only other thing, which is completely preference is if you do dogfighting then you tend to have to make many and long movements thats actually a bit more tiring than anything else lol :) -
Interesting. I am lucky, I have never had any issues converging images though I wouldnt want to do some bad ones for a long time. I just downloaded the dev kit SDK so I will have a look around. I have some software ideas myself I might play around with.
-
Youre right the convergence was odd. I tried this one and thats what gave me the problem until I adjusted. Is it people that can't see stereoscopic the problem or that people cannot merge the two images? In astronomy I find there are a number of people that cannot merge the image from binoculars. There is no stereo depth to the image but a lot of people cannot get the brain to merge them. It's a well documented thing and I wonder if a similar issue will be had with the OR. If so then having the same image on both sides wont matter. Another thing that cant help this is that people have different interpupillary distance which I dont think the OR caters for?
-
Hey, you didnt get april 1st pranked on the nthusim site did you? I saw a guy ask if nthusim would support the OR in non stereo mode. He wanted both sides to have the same image because he only had one eye. Now, not wanting to make fun of anyone with only one eye but given it's april 1st over there I would have though a guy with only one eye wouldnt care what was on the other side of the screen. I wonder if he pulled one past you :)

I just had my first non real OR experience. I loaded up a SBS youtube video of the tuscan demo on my 50" screen and went in to 3d mode. My head wanted to do summersaults right away, watching the pre warped image without being fixed took a few seconds to get used too. I got close so a lot of my vision was taken up and it looked awesome looking out of a window to the yard and then the mountains behind. everything was layered in 3d and it could only look a lot better in the real thing. Now I just need to wait for more SBS OR video to arrive on youtube to look at :)
-
I saw your post over at iracing as well Flim, even a Q for you I think :) Interesting about the nthusim, for $19 I might just preorder itfor the future. I thought on and off about preordering the OR and never did. Part of the reason was because of glasses but I might get by without wearing them. Flim, are there any games you have seen that you would use the OR for now as your main device even without the correct rendering to combat the distortion?
-
The hydra looks interesting and while I dont play games like skyrim or the kind of thing that I think it would be good for I think the OR would make me want to have a go :) Only issue for flying is that 99% of the time my hands are on the hotas for flying and needing to press a button makes me think the mouse or leap motion would be best. If leap motion could put a hand in game like the hydra then I think thats the perfect combo for an OR. Then mouse as second option. It looks like the hydra would be the most awkward to pick up/put down unsighted everytime you wanted to flick switches. I need to go to my sim and close my eyes to practice :)
-
I can't believe there is any talk about not thinking ED should look in to this technology. Everyone with an OR will be buying up software they dont usually use to get the experience and flight sims through out the history of home computers have always done reasonably well. It's an area I would expect to really grow when VR starts to take off. Flim how does the mouse work? For those occasional buttons that you use which are not on the hots I guess its not too hard to use the mouse?

Looking for a HOTAS Warthog Stick Extension
metalnwood replied to GodsPrototype's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A stick extension is nice for a few reasons but one of them is not for butting the base on the floor. That makes it far too long. You want a small extension, e.g. up to 100mm and then some sort of platform for the base to sit on that brings the handle up to the correct height. -
I have had this issue as well.. It took some fiddling about in windows 7 for sure. One thing that springs to mind is that not all of your ports dvi ports support VGS - at least thats how it is on my card and the only way to get an option for 640x480 is to make sure your adaptor is plugged in to the correct port.

It seems that Jason has no previous knowledge of the product. The oculus team have acknowledged a number of these points WRT the development kit. Most of these issues are related to the screen which is slow and not high res. But we have been told that this will be fixed for the consumer version. As fas as the 1:1 for the head movement, who really knows. I know that what he says cannot be given as gospel as he obviously hasn't been following things and this is just how it was set up. That doesnt mean that this is how it will have to be and off the top of my head I can think of easy ways to give scale to it.
