S77th-RYKE replied to zaGURUinzaSKY's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Way to go !! I'd do the same thing in your position , love what ED does too and feel it's money well spent to support them :) :) was just pokin fun at one person who obviously doesn't feel the same ... :P which I find funny considering HE'S A TESTER :) well that's just it, it's not anonymous , just click on the numbers for a complete list . I'll buy it for sure . -

so far ... voted no; 169th_Vulcan, Animalmother, Bug11, Burner_Tbird2, h.kan, Hodgepodge, JaBoG32_Prinzartus, Sukhoy27_VFW01, {adi}-Michael voted don't know 169th_Cobra, 214th_bungle_uk, beterhans, cidcarioca, DarkSoul, golfsierra2, gustav, Harven, Hellcat61, Hitman IF, Mytos, Outlaw24, PE_Tigar, Pilotasso, Ragtag, rasputin, S77th-GOYA, schimmel, SniperRu, SwingKid, Titan3025, Vati but don't kill em ... :P they are entitled to their opinion even if one of them who voted no is part of ED's tester's team , and probably wouldn't even have to pay for 1.2 ;) . Must be 1 of the 2 Ice didn't jokingly execute with the rest ;) ahh those pesky double standards ;) -
I'd love to have a bOrked DSL ... lol my speed on 56K is sometimes surprising... peer to peer I downloaded 20 megs in 11 minutes the other day ... was amazed , I usually average 17 megs/hour In AA I'm messed up by those pesky PB screenshots uploads, those kill me ... apart from that , I got to play it low and slow , I don't kid myself ...turning a corner fast and meeting an opfor headon , even with my godlike reflexes ;) I'll end up dead 8 out of 10 times against a 40 pinger . why ohh why is hi-speed not available yet here... and you just know if I sell the house , 1 month later it'll be here :(
-
I disagree a lot with phone companies infrastructure and hardware everywhere becoming more and more state of the art ,a stable 56K in a decently tweaked computer is very playable and enjoyable . I'm playing all sorts of games online on a 56K and I ping reasonably well to most servers , I'm even surprised 504th'server's in England , it's very playable to me and I'm in Canada. It's not like it's 56K all the way to server , after meandering thru the snow ,across the woods and rivers eventually my signal gets on the same highway as dsl or cable users. But yeah if hi-speed was available I would gladly sell both Evil's Scotsman legs to get it :P

Mission load times: Online games

Actually the server can set the scenes to high , clients just have to edit their Lockon\Bazar\Terrain\Scenes to their liking , for example you can make all scenes settings load the low scenes by making 2 copies of Low.scn and renaming them high.scn and medium.scn Don't forget to back up first . I have used that with no ill effects in the past when I felt my computer was struggling . hope that helps a few people -
lol !! I know ;) also there isn't a lot of same plane against same plane stats because the way the coalitions work I guess . You don't find all planes available on both sides most often. fun stats ... good job VV504th !!
-
Hey Vapor :) it's the way the stats work , it will always be the same for a particular plane model against itself.
-
funny , you would think that if one plane disapears in relation to the other the reverse would be true ... all about what kind of protocol is used I guess , don't know much about UDP or some such but it's amazing that even with 300 ping for example for 2 clients the software still manages to make you beleive it's happening simultanously. But some games really don't have it... I remember trying a microsoft rally game , don't remember the exact name , we were in a lan and I would have contact with another car and look on his monitor and it wasn't happening there at all... Yeah we gave up that game pretty fast.
-
I noticed that when first joining a game , a player with a slow connection will ping very high for a while , it then settles to actual real ping . This can take a while. Also when there is a lot of people on a server 12 -15 or more , pilots with weaker connections suffer a high ping . It might be the server's connection or network coding of the game struggling with more clients. Or maybe all the clients are not connecting at the same setting or a combination of all the above.

Silent hunting in a russian plane
S77th-RYKE replied to S77th-RYKE's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That hasn't been my experience... radar does switch on automatically . From an OFF position before switching EOS ON . Thanks for reporting it GG , can't wait to find out what ED says about that. so let's recap 1- EOS switches to active radar without any indication to pilot it has done so is a BUG . 2- The option to turn radar OFF and make sure it doesn't switch ON when EOS loses lock is an inadequate level of modelling. see Maximus_G 's quote of manual and attachment on page 1 . Would be really nice if this could be modeled correctly in the future . Peterj , thanks for the tracks :) and thank you all for your valuable input. -

yeah , was in multiplayer , I'm sure it's easily reproducible because it seems to do it all the time . I remember many instances when I saw a bandit turn around to engage me when I was in EOS with radar OFF and a heat seeking missile selected... when I asked "did you know I was there ? " the answer was "yes" . I'll try to get a track tonite. I'm sure it qualify as a "bug" because it's "bugging" me :) lmao -

I understand and appreciate all the hard work they do at ED , this particular "bug" I hope will make it to the "fix it soon list " because I feel it is taking a lot away from the game right now. I really miss being completely silent ... when did that change ? was it 1.1 or 1.11 because we used to be able to be "really" silent before... maybe it wouldn't be a lot of work to change it back... I know if I had a choice it would be OFF means OFF :) also is the forgotten (1.11) addition of real load outs for Migs (6x 77s)going to happen in 1.12 ? -

When I have an active missile selected I can see the automatic switch to radar on the hud , that's what I meant in my first post , but when it's a 73 selected I see no difference in hud symbology telling me I just given my self away . Thanks for the input , I hope you are right and that a real life pilot can REALLY switch his radar off . We need this ability in lockon too , modeled as it is right now EOS mode is usefull as a fall back option to radar losing track but it is useless as a stand alone , silent hunting target acquiring system. GG I'm sure the system integrators and pilots meant it to work this way when this particular mode was selected , the way Maximus_G explains it however ;with an option to be able to really turn the radar OFF is the only way that makes sense . What do you say ED ? -
I don't know if what we get in lockon right now is realistic or not but I find it disturbing that there is no way to be completely silent while tracking a target in EOS mode . last nite I was following an F-15 that was heading away from me , I was in a Mig-29S , had my radar OFF , a 73 selected and was in EOS mode , at no point was I aware of EOS mode automatically switching to active radar when losing track like it happens with an active missile selected . I should have been silent , my thermal lock should have remained undetected by my target. after talking with the F-15 pilot it turns out I wasn't silent at all , I was silent at times but if I was to lose my EOS lock ,and had to reaquire , everytime the tracked target got a lock warning (not sure of the exact moment, wether it was when I lost lock or when I reacquired) , there was no indication to me at all that my weapons systems gave me away . I feel betrayed by my own plane :( , surely this shouldn't happen in lockon and I hope it doesn't happen in real life either, I think the capacity to remain passive is of utmost importance and the pilot should have the means to be sure of that at 100% . so... is this a bug ? or am I doing something wrong ?

TrackIR without TrackIR ? possible.
S77th-RYKE replied to zaGURUinzaSKY's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
there is a free utility out there called freelook , need a webcam and LED light , it works quite well , I used it for over a year... It's no track IR , it is much more susceptible to unresponsiveness and lack of precision due to low frame rates . I guess the faster the computer the better it will work . Still a lot more immersive than a hat switch (witch I don't recommend unmapping cause you may need it eventually with freelook) you can get it here http://freelook.org/download.php all previous versions are available for download witch is nice for testing... I found that version 9a worked best for me . if anyone want to try it PM me and I'll send you my profile. -
Happy new year everyone !! Good health to you and your families !! god save those chicks ;)
