[HOW TO] Importing BC7 DDS Textures in GIMP
RustyGunner replied to SinusoidDelta's topic in Liveries/Skinning
Nice instructions prccowboy. I have been using this method for a couple of years now but my line 7 in the python script is: BINARY = "C:/Program Files/GIMP 2/texconv.exe" (no triple quotes) GIMP (2.10.30) seems to work fine importing and exporting the different DDS files. Not sure why triple quotes should be needed. -
SU-57 Felon EFM Build
RustyGunner replied to cubanace's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Cubanace, this is a wonderful model and quite fun to fly. I used it as an AI model the other day and observed both wings breaking off during landing when the parachute is deployed. All is fine after the chute is dropped. Using ModelViewer2 it looks like argument 35 deploys the chute and breaks off the left wing. Didn't see why the right wing breaks off as argument 36 controls it. I didn't see this reported here so thought you should know. Keep up the terrific work. BTW: using your latest release. Well, the MC-145 got shot down by the enemy (so much for flying in a cleared air space). Thought I would pass this observation along. The plane lost both engines and wings in the missile attack but both propellers kept spinning all the way into the ground. Seems odd to see propellers spinning with no engines or wings. RustyGunner

Thanks for the response. Excellent information. Your guess about the belly sensor makes sense to me. In my search I came across a picture of a cruise missile being fired but that seemed a bit much for this aircraft. I am enjoying your superb model. I added paratroopers and cargo drops to the aircraft. Your package contains a cargo model but no texture file for it. I made a crude one but wonder if you have one for it. RustyGunner

I can find no information regarding this belly camera (see picture). Curious as to its function and why this aircraft needs two. I do like the way both the nose and belly camera move around in flight keeping an eye on surroundings. RustyGunner

I have had many problems with Hellfires fired from the MQ-9 Reaper overshooting their target. Some hit but for the most part they miss. I reported the problem in the AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms) last month. BIGNEWY confirmed and reported it to the ED team to check. The test flight with your model was nothing special; takeoff from one airport and land at another. I added two ground units (wide open field several miles apart) to target in the flight path. The MC-145 detected each unit and fired a Hellfire at it: both missed. I just flew a similar test flight with two T-90 tanks as targets. This time the first one hit the second one missed. I am thinking the problem is with the Hellfire or AI logic not your model. RustyGunner

Your Mods never disappoint the user. High quality and excellent work. I really like the way you manage the different variants in the ME loadout section. A Mod like this must have taken many hours to develop and lots of bugs to crush. Many thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. Took the newly arrived MC-145 out for a test run (I added the option for a 19 missile Zuni rocket pod) and found out damage textures are present as I came across a ground-based AA unit. Outstanding! Fired two Hellfires at the ground unit but both overshot their target (strange behavior for a laser guided weapon). Luckily the bullet ridden aircraft made it home safety. More missions are planned for this terrific model. Thanks again, RustyGunner

Found this posting on page 2 while checking the forum. Beautiful looking models! All would be a great addition to DCS but I have a fancy for the MC-145 Coyote or MC-145b Coyote. Your models are excellent. Hope to see these soon. RustyGunner

Using OB 2.7.16.28111 with no mods. Select Cold and Dark on Caucasus (have not tried any other maps) and perform an Auto Start. Plane will perform all start up tasks but not close the canopy. The canopy must be closed manually using the panel switch. This has not been a problem with previous builds. RustyGunner I need to add that I jumped over 2.7.16.27869 (i.e. I didn't install or use that build).

Thanks for having the team check things over BIGNEWY. Just a note: I have noticed AI planes and helos will abort landing and engage any enemy it detects. The Reaper will indeed abort landing and engage the enemy but unfortunately cannot hit them. The Predator, if it still has a hellfire, will abort landing, engage, and kill the enemy. Quite a difference in ability between the two drones. RustyGunner

Thank you for the input. I realize that the Reaper has a high operational altitude but if flown too high the AGM missiles are useless as ground targets will not be detected. Substituting a Predator for the Reaper in the above trk yields 2 shots for 2 hits. Why the difference? Seems like AGM-114K accuracy is quite poor when fired from a Reaper at lower altitudes. Strange for a laser guided weapon. I posted this because I found it curious that a Reaper could not defend itself when landing with an enemy tank near the landing pattern. RustyGunner

ADMIRAL189'S CORNER - INCOMING SHIP MODELS
RustyGunner replied to Admiral189's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Howzzat, I changed Texture LS_Rosso2 from red to gray. In my opinion the ship looks better. The model and collision shells are the same. Use ModelViewer 2 to check them against my June 7th post further up. I am at a lost why yours should not take damage and sink. RustyGunner -

Howzzat, The version I have seems to work fine for taking damage. Here's the Patuxtent taking a couple of missile hits from another ship. RustyGunner -

JFCshioss + Marroux, I re-downloaded the Patuxtent and looked at it again as I had two version of a collision model in the folder. Looking at the Patuxtent model in ModelViewer 2 shows the collision model looks ok but I too have the same problem. Note: the collision model has been moved over to see how it lines up with the Patuxtent model. Looks like the Admiral will need to sort this issue out. RustyGunner -
ADMIRAL189'S CORNER - INCOMING SHIP MODELS
RustyGunner replied to Admiral189's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Admiral, Thanks for the two new additions. The Sacramento (super looking and detailed) and tug are terrific models. You have an amazing modeling gift. Couple of items noted during my initial test run: 1) the Sacramento needs to sit deeper into the water. Its propeller breaks the surface. 2) the Tug has a broken mast on top. Not sure if that's a feature or not. Could be it stuck something while handling ships. Also, the tug is missing two textures: screw and tug deck. I corrected both by using the prop_t texture. Keep up the excellent work. Your ships are very much appreciated. RustyGunner -
ADMIRAL189'S CORNER - INCOMING SHIP MODELS
RustyGunner replied to Admiral189's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Not sure what's wrong with the textures on the San Antonio either. Didn't see the specific texture problem stated anywhere. The only issue I have come across is the lower part of the hull that's not seen as it's under water. I suspect the shipyard ran into a supply chain problem in getting sufficient hull coating material. Not really an issue for me. This is a fine ship. I downloaded this version of the Admiral's ship a long time ago when it was first released. RustyGunner -

While we are waiting for the Sacramento to be released here are three of Admiral189's previously released ships in action. The USCGC Galveston Island rescuing the crew of a fishing vessel in distress and the USS Oak Hill launching a USN LCAC. Wonderful ships Admiral. The sinking ship and rafts are from EightBall's Civilian Assets Pack - Navy. RustyGunner -
Need Help Finding Cables to Install a 3080 Ti
RustyGunner replied to RustyGunner's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the advice guys. My current PSU is 1300 watts so I wasn't concerned about not having enough power to run the 3080 Ti. However, I will look into a new PSU as those are easy to change out. Hopefully, it will come with cables that will interface with my 8 year old MB connectors. I keep telling myself it's time to build a new PC but I just keep procrastinating. RustyGunner -
I have a problem locating cables to connect my Antec HCP Platinum Pro 1300w power supply to the ASUS 3080 Ti graphics card. My computer was built approximately 8 years ago so the power supply is roughly 8 years old as well. The picture below shows the connector configuration of the 3080 Ti (top) and the 12v connectors on the bottom of the power supply (bottom). View is looking at the connector. All the cables I come across have a square connector on the bottom which will not fit into the U shape connector row on the bottom of the power supply. The power supply specs show the top row is 12v and the bottom row is ground. The second picture shows the back of the power supply from documentation. The complete set of bottom connectors are unused and available to connect the 3080 Ti three 8 pin connectors if they can be found. Anybody have a source of cables that would work? Thanks, RustyGunner

ADMIRAL189'S CORNER - INCOMING SHIP MODELS
RustyGunner replied to Admiral189's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
navyBtown, I loaded up the America and put a few static objects on the ship and do not see any "floating" objects as your pictures show. Also, the US Flag on my ship is not upside down. Not sure why your objects are floating. As for the flag being upside down it could be that texture is conflicting with another one of the Admiral189's ships. Had that problem before but don't recall which ship(s). As I posted I see your America has an additional set of flags mine does not have. Looks like we are using different models from Admiral189. His first page shows version 1.0.1 is available. Perhaps I am using version 1.0. Something the Admiral should be able to answer. RustyGunner -

Admiral189, Here are ship wake files I use for the Constellation, Duncan, and Montreal. Hope these can be of use to you and your fans. Just drop them into the appropriate ship's Shapes folder. Keep launching these marvelous ships from your shipyard. Your work is very much appreciated. prccowboy, A rather late response but yes I did add a custom argument to the livery to get the bomb bay doors open. Also, I do not have the WW 2 pack and had no problem loading or firing the torpedoes. RustyGunner

prccowboy, Thanks for the excellent P-8 model and attention to detail. Very nice addition to DCS. Loaded her up with 5 torpedoes and took it out for a flight against an anchored tanker off the coast. The crew on that tanker must have been panic stricken to see an airplane that large barreling down on them at 250 kts and only 150 feet above the water. I am sure the two torpedoes dropped 800 feet from them didn't help their anxiety level either. First two torpedoes exploded on impact with the water. A second pass took out the tanker with an additional two torpedoes. Loads of fun. Thanks for all your work. Just downloaded your latest updated file. Much appreciated. RustyGunner
