  1. The HSI will run off of the HARS if your NMSP is set to HARS. At that point you can go to the HARS control panel and select either compass slave mode (magnetic mode as you described) or DG. HARS is a backup legacy system. The EGI should be passing data to both the ADI and HSI. This is why both gauges read "off" until your EGI has been aligned. I think we'll need to hear from ED if it's a bug or something mechanical in the simulator that's causing the inaccurate readings from the EGI though. I'll go into the simulator and see if I can play around with it.
  2. I personally can never seem to locate the magical armor columns the JTAC talks about on the first Devil's Cross mission. Each time I attempt the mission, I find roughly 3 - 4 columns of T-80s and BMP-2s. Each time I commit to a column, I never hit the right one according to the BDA. So it's like playing Russian Roulette...there's 4 or so columns out there, now guess which one is correct. Plus it's always type 3 tasking and isn't marked. I need some intel!
  3. That might have been your problem then. Any idea what the figure of merit was?
  4. Runway courses are derived from magnetic heading, not true heading.
  5. I suppose it's impossible to know if my theory is correct or not unless you know which flight driver you were using, and know what it's figure of merit was.
  6. Alright, lets see if I can put my theory into words this time: Since the HSI runs off of the EGI system, I'll blame that, assuming you were using the EGI as your primary navigation source. The EGI can run off of either an INS system, or a GPS system, or both (blended). Typically the driver of the EGI is set to blended, but I have looked at the CDU before and seen it running off of the INS. Correct me if I'm wrong, but INS systems tend to drift, the same way gyros tend to precess. (Which is why you have to sit there and align your EGI before taxi). Additionally, Batumi's runway course is 125, not 130 as you have set. With that said, could it be possible you were using the INS as your flight driver, it drifted slightly, and you compensated by setting an incorrect final approach course, canceling out the two and making it appear as if you were lined up?
  7. When coordinating attacks with a JTAC, how are you supposed to get your wingman to attack in sequence? I've noticed he doesn't talk to JTAC and JTAC never clears him. So there's never even a BDA after my AI's attacks.
  8. Another thing about the console light dial, is the maximum brightness actually seems to be about half of the dial's freedom of movement. As in, moving the dial about 60 or so percent, produces 100 percent brightness.
  9. I think the A-10 is a blast to fly, and it feels very realistic to me. Not speaking from actual A-10 hours and comparing it to the real thing, but it just feels like you're flying a real aircraft. It's FAR from dull. Comparing the Su-25 to the A-10 in terms of maneuverability and flight characteristics is...well...not the best comparison to say the least. The A-10 is far superior and was designed to be a stable attacking airfoil, and includes a stability augmentation system. It had some faults in the beta, but since the release version, DCSW still has some of the most dynamic and best feeling flight controls I've handled in 10+ years of simming. You can really kick the pedals in different ways, use a burst of speedbrake during rolls to increase roll rate, and fight the stick to get the maximum performance possible out of your jet. Especially when you're limping an injured hog back to the base...that REALLY puts your stick and rudder skills to the test.
  10. Do any old F4 pilots remember the "Show threat circles" feature in the mission planner? That was really helpful. The DCS mission planner appears to have threat circles too, but there's no filter/legend and I really can't gather anything from it. I think the F-16 had that avionic feature too where it displayed the known SAM threat circles on the TAD. That'd really be useful for the A-10.
  11. Lol I saved an airframe once in the quickstart mission after losing a wing like that. I made it all the way home (barely) and then slammed into the runway, slid off the end of the runway, ruined the landing gear...but hey I survived. Might be interesting to see how that'd play out in the real world though.
  12. I've been trying to avoid CDU use myself. There's just so many pages and functions to remember. Would slewing the TAD cursor over the red triangle and hooking it be the same thing as setting the coordinates into the CDU?
  13. One thing I've noticed is you need to call "off" before your rounds are on target, otherwise nothing will happen if you call off. You'll be able to make a second run without having to be cleared hot.
  14. That's what TMS down short is for. :music_whistling:
  15. I dont think anything regarding the sound was in the changelog.
  16. Can you at least equip them in the payload editor?
  17. If weather is below VFR minimums, you probably shouldn't be flying VFR. :D
  18. The key is to ration your weapons (save all of your mavs at the very least, not including guns). Then ID your biggest threats. The column will usually have the meanest guys at the back of the line, and they're lead by the weakest links. Remember to never over-fly a deadly target. You're not very safe when the Hog's rear is wavin' a target around on it's tail. Try your best to see as far forward as you can, this will require a steady head if using TrackIR. Attack him from all angles, remember you have the better vantage point, so use it. Stay nice and fast. This makes the bad guys have to lead their shots on you to compensate for bullet lag, and they're usually off. If you're having a hard time keeping SA, try making the target your SPI so you get a tail on your HUD. If something doesn't feel right about a strafe (altitude, speed, position, distraction), bug out of the situation and come back around. Remember, Hog pilots are trained to have the ability to reattack a target within 30 seconds when necessary, so don't let the bad guys reorganize, or even worse, start moving again and have to reacquire. Oh, and don't miss! They didn't spend forever making that gun accurate just so you could waste ammo. :P
  19. You can also quickly switch it between MSL, AGL, and Delta on the AHCP. Or by going into the IFFCC test menu on the HUD and going to "display". The manual is helpful. :)
  20. thankyou sir! i would rep you but it says i've repped you too much lol.
  21. Which TrackIR hardware version are you using? Mind sharing your profile for the Hog if it's version 4? :)
  22. It won't break it, but it can shorten the life span of it dramatically. SSDs purposefully fragment the data without a cost in performance, because it's flash memory. It's called wear leveling, same things jump drives use.
  23. The transition didn't seem any different than upgrading the betas for me. :noexpression: Just uninstalled beta, deleted folder, installed final, defragged.
  24. Number 3 sounds like a software limitation. The profile is tied to simulator.exe, and will load any time it detects it.
  25. The flight manual doesn't explain how the emergency brake works, but I believe a developer said a while ago that the handle isn't a brake, it only engages a separate hydraulic source but still requires you to step on the pedals. The brakes will still be inert unless you're standing on them. :) [edit] And 3 posts up Eddie explained it again. Haha...it's gonna be a long day.
