  1. Do you get the option to select which eye it renders over? I've always been curious how that works in VR, since in real life, you've only got the one eye seeing the sight. It seems like it would be cool to be able to have that realistically done, but I have no idea how well that would render for your brain in VR.
  2. In case you didn't sort it out yet, or in case someone else stumbles on this with the same question. In the template, there's a drop down in the base color folder, and there are a lot of different folders under that. At the very bottom is FS 34031 V4, which is the base green. You can color directly on that, but I would recommend the easiest way is to create a new layer or layer group above it so you can keep the original there in case you need it in the future.
  3. I believe it's something that was patched in and needed to be sorted out by ED. Maybe @NineLine has some more details on it.
  4. Little more work done! The final nuts and bolts are going to be pure pain... Edit: If you ever want to truly appreciate the incredible work of the ED model builders and texture artists, I can't recommend taking up creating liveries enough. Here's a zoomed in shot of the engine panel I'm working on at the moment. You can see all of the light grey places that represent that bolts, rivets, panels and latches that the modeler built in 3D, and the work of the texture artist to map and color the thing before making the template. It's painful enough as a skin creator, but I can't even imagine the headaches when you're making it yourself
  5. Another 20 minutes or so worked on it. The Apache is really a beast with putting camo on it from scratch. You don't appreciate how complex this 3D model is until you start trying to figure out parts on the template. There are individual rivets...
  6. Little teaser for my next project: Only about 30 minutes of work so far, and it'll likely take longer than the last ones, thanks to the complexity of the Apache template. But I figured a Czech Air Force Apache in their new camo would be a nice placeholder until ED hopefully brings us the AH-1Z in my dreams.
  7. Looking forward to this! Sure, it's not going to be a peer-to-peer adversary, but it'll still give good pilots a chance to threaten people with the maneuverability. And, even if you're out-classed, it'll still be fun to get another RedFor aircraft for online servers where you can have enemy aircraft for countries like Syria, Iran, Iraq, whoever, played by actual humans who can take advantage of the abilities better than AI.
  8. This is awesome! I haven't flown the Harrier in probably years now (I think the last time I flew it was pre-JDAM addition...) but I've always wanted to figure out a way to make a Harrier grip for my Winwing throttle.
  9. Haha, yeah. I'm going to have a hell of a time since my brain is just wired to pretty much let everything go as soon as I hit the trim switch.
  10. Not sure if you ever got help on this one, but you can find the numbers and the fuel tank textures in the Default Mi-24 pack. From what I remember, the numbers only have a set amount of space around the default numbers, so you can make your own custom numbers that fit inside of them, but you can't expand outside of them, or move their location on the fuselage, from what I understand. You will also need to edit your livery's .lua file to point it to the new textures you create instead of the default ones. If you want an example of how it works, I created a skin with my own fuel tanks and numbers, since the real one had bright blue fuel tanks that I really wanted to see in game. You can download it here, and just check out the .lua file and the textures to see how you might make yours. Then, inside of your DCS folder you can go to CoreMods/aircraft/Mi-24P/Textures and open the "mi-24p" folder, which will have all of the "extra" textures that don't come in the template, like the pilots, wheels, fuel tanks, etc. From there, you can copy them, and what I believe I did in Photoshop was to copy the image, since it's just a flat texture and not a .psd, and then make the image black and white, create a new layer over it and set the layer to "overlay" or something like that, and then you can paint your color over the top of the black and white image on a separate layer, and play around with it until you get the colors to match up. It's not as good as a full template file, but for something pretty easy like a fuel tank, it will let you get close enough. The numbers were similar. You will have the original numbers that you can create new numbers on top of, and then turn the original number layer off and make sure to save it with the correct settings, and you should get a set of working numbers that can be any color or style you want, as long as they fit within the confines of the original numbers. Hope that helps, and sorry it's a bit delayed!
  11. I'm looking forward to hearing some reviews on it! For the price point, it seems like a pretty solid deal if it helps a lot with flying. Honestly, one of the toughest parts with the Apache and Hind for me is getting the rudders right in my head after switching seats, especially when dropping into a hover. If I could just ignore the click-to-trim rudder and just have the pedals essentially hold themselves in place, that would be a huge addition for flying.
  12. Yeah, I think the President-S IR turrets are probably the thing I was most looking forward to, even if they ended up not being very effective. I'm just here for the cool factor!
  13. Not to necro a dead thread or anything, but I found this video on the President-S system, and thought it was interesting in general, just for any future users who stumbled on the thread. But also because it seems to show what could be a Ka-50, #25 with what looks to be a 3rd wing pylon. I assume it's in testing somewhere, and it's only a picture, but it looks like there was at least a fitted outer pylon on the Ka-50 at some point: Figured I would grab a screenshot just in case the video ever gets taken down, just for future preservation: null
  14. Good to hear! I haven't hopped online in the AH-64 since the last time where I ran into George having the settling with power issues, but I'm looking forward to check it out again once I get my moving situation sorted out. Glad to hear it's working better for you!
  15. This is usually why I fly without the pilot body. The little bit of realism isn't worth the moments where you get removed from it, since the pilot's body can't really move like your real body would. In real life, you aren't easily checking over your shoulder to the degree that you can in game without first bending at the waist, or at at least pivoting your back a bit. Real pilots are reaching to pull themselves around to look behind them often, but in game, your pilot body stays anchored to the seat in the casual seated position. Makes sense, since that would be a lot of animation work to get a pilot that realistically moves the upper body around, but the ability to float outside of my head just has me turning it off to avoid it.
  16. In case you're using a gamepad, like I am, you can use something like JoyToKey to turn the triggers into a multi-detent trigger. If I remember right on mine, I have a bit of a deadzone, so I've got it mapped where 0-10% depression is nothing, 20-80% is the first stage, and then the final 20% is the 2nd stage, since it's easy enough to just fully depress the trigger and hit that. Edit: Correction, I've got 0-5% is nothing, 5%-90% is the first detent, and then 90%-100% is the second detent:
  17. Yeah, that dust cloud looks miserable to be dropping into, especially considering the history of trouble that can come from dust clouds, like with Operation: Eagle Claw. My Dad was a door gunner in Vietnam on the Chinook, and he was telling me that they apparently got run over by a C-130 one day while sitting at what was apparently an uncontrolled airstrip. I've never been able to find anything on the story, but I would guess there's surely an article out there somewhere. The videos also make me realize it would be nice if DCS added a dust cloud to the game when you're down low over dry ground like in the desert maps, to make it a little tougher to just hug the ground in helicopters.
  18. It's definitely been a great system, and I'm thrilled with the work ED has done on it. That was my biggest worry with flying a two-seater solo. That you would just feel like some pilot with a robot up front. But with George and Petro, they've done a lot to give them personality, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they further develop it.
  19. Thanks, AeriaGloria! I should have known I could count on you to have a detailed understanding! And yeah, I was trying to find specifics on which ones got the dispensers where, but best I could tell was that the metal fairing around the outside was removed to make life easier on the crews. I'm guessing it's unlikely either way, as my experience with creating skins for the Mi-24 seems to indicate that the model would require a re-work to not have the fairings instead of just hiding that part of the model.
  20. Well, I didn't really gloss over them. They don't seem to be relevant, so I don't know why I would mention them.
  21. I assume it's unlikely due to having to change the model, but would it be possible to get the different locations for the flare/chaff dispensers on the fuselage and tail? It would be cool to have the option to have the Mi-24 with the non-aerodynamic flare/chaff dispensers that have the fairing removed, or maybe the ones mounted under the tail? Obviously, it's just a cosmetic issue, so it's not something that would be any kind of priority, but it would be a nice feature to have to make some accurate variants.
  22. Incredible work! Honestly, it would be an amazing addition if it was only the 3D model in game and nothing else. The Ka-52 has been missing for a while. Невероятные работы, друг!
  23. I've noticed this as well, but oddly, it only happens to me in multiplayer. I've got an offline map I made where I fly the Apache most often, and I've never really had an issue with George flying when I jump up front. But I jumped on Rotorheads one day, and got into a stable hover behind a ridgeline, then switched up front. I tried to get him to take me up and forward a bit, and somehow we settled with power hard. It was hard enough to bounce us back into the air about 20ft, snap off the tail boom and then have him just settle in nicely back at altitude. He did it 2 more times, before I thought "I'll just take over and fly us back to base for a repair". But, that'll happen sometimes with WIP.
  24. Nice finds! Looks like I've got some stuff to watch today! Thanks!
  25. It's super weird. I usually get a framerate drop when firing the Vikhr, but it's been universal to the Ka-50, and something I experienced before the BS3 release. Oddly, this morning, I went to fly the Ka-50 in a single player mission I created, accidentally rippled 2 Vikhrs, and it froze my game instead of the usual framerate drop with just a single missile. It's been about 2 minutes now, but I'm waiting to see if DCS will recover or not. For science. Edit: Still frozen. I popped open Task Manager to see what's up, and it looks like the GPU is bouncing between 90 and 100% utilization. Oddly, unlike when the game crashes, it appears that I've still got sound, and DCS doesn't show "Program Not Responding". Edit 2: It's been about 5 minutes of no change. I tried hitting pause to see if maybe I could give the game a second to "catch up", but no luck there. null My system isn't anything too crazy. It's got a GeForce GTX 980TI with 6GB of VRAM, an Intel Core i7-4790 @ 4GHz with 8 cores, and then 32GB of RAM. Oddly, when I used Task Manager to kill DCS, just before the program exited I saw "Are you sure you want to quit?" or something like that pop up on the screen, so it seems it didn't end up 100% frozen.
