  1. Wow, the alt setting is given at taxi clearance and I just discovered that if you set the analog altimeter it changes on the HUD. Nice attention to detail! :D
  2. I must have missed the part on the checklist where I'm supposed to bring up ATIS and enter the altimeter pressure. :)
  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Tanker gives the pre-contact approach altitude 1,000 ft lower , is that normal? The reason I'm asking is that I think I remember one mission where he gave his own actual altitude, but he may have descended by the time I got there, not sure. I guess in most cases the briefing should tell me the Tanker altitude.
  4. Maybe I'll try locking him up with the TGP in AA mode and setting SPI, if I can find him first.
  5. Sorry if this question has been asked before , used the search and couldn't find anything specific. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but from my estimation, the Tanker only turns on its Nav lights at around 500 ft. This is fine during the day, but I find it almost impossible to visually acquire the Tanker at night. The light strip is not visible until you're on its six, goggles are no help against the star background. Tacan can get me close, within a mile, but that's not close enough to see it. I'm sure that with precise nav cues I could fly it up its ass, but I don't believe the Tacan is that accurate. Is this how it's done in RW? To me,it seems that nighttime ops would require different procedures, perhaps lights on at 1 or 2 miles out?
  6. Navy AC dump fuel to obtain the correct weight for carrier traps. For land-based ac, It might come in handy for deadsticking it and shortening your roll out, though.
  7. Why not go all out and put nano-sensors and fins on each round to tracks its target? Welcome to Star Wars, lol.
  8. Also make sure you are trimmed properly on Autopilot. Speed deviations will require re-trimming. I don't know how that works on Keyboard only though.
  9. It's probably been asked before, and an easy answer. Is there a way to get the Tanker to show up on the networked TAD? Are they even equipped? Thanks,
  10. Good thing the guy tried it once before, or he would have never got it started by randomly clicking buttons, lol.
  11. Hey, I'll volunteer to go down and bait some SAMS. Apparently that's one of my strengths so far in the this Sim. Surviving is a different story. "Sambait" sounds like a pretty good callsign.
  12. So real A-10 drivers use binoculars? That's really hands off flying.
  13. Not to mention that it would be over before you even visually ID the MIG.
  14. Not sure who created it over New Years weekend. Great mission, btw, but one suggestion: Have some friendly vehicles at the origin airbases so we can custom fuel our jets. 10% default fuel didn't seem to be enough to fly to the tanker, sit in the queue and wait to refuel. Tried calling ground crew to give me a bit more fuel, but no joy (no friendly vehicles). Thanks. eta: I guess there were fully loaded A10's available at different airbases, so not a problem. I'm used to flying SuperHornets in FC2 and was looking for the Fuel dump? I guess the A-10 doesn't have one? :)
  15. From my experience in MP this weekend, don't stay heads down in the TGP while flying in a SAM and manpad infested area. Got nailed several times. I need to work on deciphering the RWR. Also , got new info that friendly Mav launches will set off the missle warning indicator if they are in the area? Never saw it myself, but got it from a reliable source. Never knew that, so I guess that's another reason for calling "Rifle" before firing.
  16. Maybe a dumb question but are your boost pumps on?
  17. I believe that at least 1 friendly ground vehicle is required on base for re-arming and re-fueling. I found flying with the goggles challenging in getting the brilliance just right. I discovered that the green HUD lighting (daytime) is much better, the orange is totally unreadable.
  18. Yeah, Fuel Tanks ... or Training Ordinance: http://wn.com/'dummy_bomb'_falls_from_jet_in_nevada#
  19. Is there a specific flight or wingman call or procedure to get them into the approach pattern? He seems to be flying all over the place, and of course there's the "Wheels up" and repeating "Rejoin" issue. RTB would probably get him to land at the original AB, but is there any way to get him to land first at a divert field? eta: should this be moved to the AI category?
  20. Guess there's no point in arguing with Eagle pilots. :)
  21. I'm finally getting refueling down. I've been practicing with the Tanker flying straight for a couple hundred miles, now I'm about ready to add wind and a Tanker track. My struggle is trying to keep the barber pole in the green, takes really minute movements of throttle and trim. I saw the craziest thing in one of my missions. I'm about ready to connect and 2 Eagles come blasting in about 400 kts headed directly for the Tankers 6. Tanker makes an evasive move with chicks in tow as the eagles blow by underneath, then to make things worse, they come back around and cut in front of the line. If I didn't break off I would have been toast. I think I need to adjust their speed, but hopefully in 1.1.1.1, they'll wait their turn. lol
  22. Can someone confirm if this is a bug? To be honest, I only notice this if the bandit is notching. I attributed it to confusing returns and the radar shuts down. IR mode is engaged as a safety net until you re-acquire with radar. But it is a pain.
  23. Fleet Defender used to model UFO's. That was a great sim in it's day.
  24. Excellent, Thanks. I'm a ground pounder so I'm looking forward to installing it.
  25. Looks fantastic. With all the detail, are there any hits on the FPS when flying over modded cities in FC2?
