  1. Metacritic is biased! DCS: WH now has a score of 87, but doesn't show up under the "current PC games" down in the bottom right.
  2. Just in case there are people who don't know this, the boxed version is now out in Australia!! I just noticed today that the mindscape website has changed the sim's status from 'coming soon' to 'available'. I'm not affiliated with mindscape in any way or anything, so if there are other distributers I'd be happy to hear about them. I'm just happy that I'll soon be able to play this, been waiting ever since beta 1!
  3. I personally could never get into using it with ARMA 2. I found it was far quicker and more accurate to just look with the mouse instead of with your head. Of when course flying helicopters in the game it comes in handy.
  4. If its an F-14 you gotta get tom cruise to replace samuel l. jackson as the trainer!
  5. Yeah I agree. ED makes it tempting to get the download version in this case, but in general its too much effort for me to wait for a few days to d/l something, then have to burn it to one or more dvds (I don't have a dual layer burner). Then do all that box art stuff as greengriffon said only to have a less robust disc all for a similar price to the old school boxed version. Thats just me though.
  6. According to simware, the DVD version of this magnificiant looking sim will be available from April 15. Should we believe them or is this just some unofficial nonsense?? Link: http://www.simw.com/simulator/a-10c-warthog.html
  7. Hijack, I like that idea! At the moment I have it so that slider zoom requires the "A" joystick button as a modifier, works well but then I loose a button. But ill give this 5 level step thingo a shot. P.S. Its kinda hard to follow and I haven't given it a try yet, but there may be a software method of smoothing out the dodgy axes in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.ph...685#post998685
  8. Oh that and my internet isn't terribly fast here in Australia, and I just like having the disc somewhere so I don't have to worry about backing the files up etc. Guess I'm just living in the past :) I'm tempted to get both though with the exchange rates being pretty good at the moment...
  9. Just personally I figure I've waited this long for a boxed version, if I give in now then all the time I didn't get the betas was for nothing.
  10. About the casual online play, I am also inclined this way but Ill tell you black shark multiplayer ranked as was one of the funnest online experiences ever for me (I say "was" because it wasn't as good after the FC2 compatibility patch). This is because each shark could operate relatively autonomously so even if the sever only had a couple people the mission still worked and it your skill level didn't matter so much. Also, just the difficulty of flying that thing weeded out a lot of annoying sorts. You know, the ones that *always* fly the spitfire/etc. Hopefully a-10 will be similar.
  11. Thrustmaster should really give ED royalties. I mean, DCS a10c would exist without the HOTAS, but a lot of the hotas sales come directly from dcs pilots. edit: obviously I mean the A-10c replica hotas to be specific
  12. Phew that was one long thread! Anyways great news, can't wait till they burn this puppy to a dvd for me to buy!
  13. I reckon that is a terrible idea, your wingman needs to go back to aerodynamics 101. Turning a plane is not like driving a car, the centripital force comes from the lift generated by the wings (well you could also use the rudder to slip and turn kind of like a ship does, but i digress). Drag is a by-product of lift, so to produce the greatest amount of lift you need max thrust, or equivalently, the least drag possible. So the clean configuration should be best. Speedbrakes could be used momentarily however, if the plane begun a turn well above corner speed such that the turn was limited by the load factor (not likely in a hog).
  14. I hope the OP reports back after they install the new CPU, I'd be interested to know just how "CPU bottlenecked" this sim is as everyone seems to say. The fact that fps doubled from just a graphics card upgrade suggests otherwise to me. Then again, we could see an even bigger improvement from tomorrow's CPU upgrade. From the evidence I've seen, 4 gigs of ram is enough for almost all games, and I reckon there'd only be a marginal improvement going to 8GB. So no I don't think it would have an important effect.
  15. They almost need to put in a table of all the combinations of conditions when betty decides to cry speedbrakes.
  16. I'm waiting for the boxed version and it looks as though a 2010 release isn't going to happen :( Im not too fussed though, I'd rather the final release be done right than done quick, good choice ED!
  17. I think a system should be invented to help an aircrew who is suffering hypoxia and can't be raised on the radios so something can be done during these incidents in the future. Maybe some sort of UAV deployed from a B-52 that clamps itself to the aircraft fueselage and then has a massive air scoop which repressurises the cabin via the ram effect. Or maybe the UAV could have large enough wings and control surfaces that once clamped on it or a human operator could fly the doomed plane down to a safe altitute.
  18. Are the formation lights all green as well for the same reason? I'm wondering why they didn't make the port side ones red?
  19. All you need to do is steal some actual cockpits sounds from a real a-10 hud recording from youtube with the pilot straining under g's etc and splice it into your video and noone will ever know its from DCS.
  20. That shewee site does say 'NATO approved' so maybe they really do use them in single seat aircraft...
  21. So does your inner ear measure the gradient of acceleration (a.k.a. "jerk")? Cool I didn't know that.
  22. Wow:surprise:...could have just got a laptop for that price!
  23. Oops sorry, the boom, my mistake. I see 220 knots is the A-10 refueling airspeed.
  24. The A-10 will be pretty unique to refuel because the recepticle is right in front of the cockpit so I suppose we will actually be able to see the drogue moving around right in front of us...
  25. But does flying through a smoke column alter it? Someday I wanna see the wingtip vortices swirl it all around....
