Nope, Gene's is an F-15C (80-0007). This is an F-15A (74-0130).

Graphics cards / Multi monitor
BHawthorne replied to JCook's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There are a lot of detailed limitations with multi-display. Will you be running things in fullscreen mode or in windowed mode? People typically span in fullscreen mode for games. Fullscreen mode spanning for NVIDIA forces 3x1 span only. AMD is significantly more accommodating for spanning modes. -
I'm pulling my ejection seat on Thursday to do some repaint work on my F-84F cockpit and the seat. Pics to come next week.

He already has a hanger in his back yard and an air strip. :smilewink:

Doesn't look like an engine. So far I only see experimentation with 3d models.

Steam has a free-to-play genre now. The client could be distributed via that genre. They already offer Microsoft Flight via that category with DLC maps and aircraft. Rather similar to what DCS World is moving towards as far as revenue stream.

I was dropping my F-84F cockpit over at a friend's hanger to have some work done and he said he had his F-15A cockpit out at a local fireworks stand. I went over over snapped a few pics of it. Once I get a bit more work on my F-84F cockpit I'll post another thread on it. Might be a few weeks though. I've got some body work that needs to be done and a new coat of silver to put on it plus reapplying detail markings.

Well, they are in at least one place. Just rattling around in my brain though. :smilewink:

NVIDIA using Windows 7 or Vista has no 2x1 spanning mode on a driver level. You can use a Matrox DH2G or a MViewer box to achieve a 2x1 span. That is $250-$350 for a box. Using a Matrox box kills S3D as an option as they cap out at 60hz. That money is better spent on a second video card or some other hardware. Hardware spanning boxes are a legacy product that predate spanning modes on a video card driver level. They are a lot more limited in capability and are not cost effective. They are available if you have no other choice though. Zotac has a new active hardware adapter out that is DP-to-Dual HDMI. It is $45 directly from the Zotac website. You could do 2x1 spanning with NVIDIA using it, but hardly any NVIDIA cards are equipped with DisplayPort. If you're looking to do it on a new GTX670 or GTX680, this might be an option though for 2x1 spanning. The adapter is highly situational though as only a couple of models of NVIDIA cards are DisplayPort equipped yet. NVIDIA is very slow at adopting the DP standard. 600-series is only just now showing consistent addition of DP. My personal experience with S3D is with NVIDIA 3D Vision kit. AMD does have HD3D, Iz3D and DDD S3D options, but I have no personal experience with them. HD3D supposedly works with AMD Eyefinity. I used to do tech demos for AMD and we never got S3D working while I collaborated with them in 2010-2011. HD3D is a 2011-2012 development though and post-dates my tech demo collaborations with AMD. THe devil is in the details with a lot of these things. If you have any questions I'll be happy to help though.

Wags is aware of my projects and which are commercial and which are non-commercial. The F-84F is my personal project and is non-commercial. I have no immediate plans for the F-84F sim to be available for public use for income. However I do service 6 commercial sims that ED is aware of that are currently Prepar3d/MSFS commercial licensed. Wags is interested in the ability to offer commercial license of DCS World to customers in the future. Should you want more information please contact ED. Should I have an interest to use the F-84F for income in the future, appropriate licensing will be arranged with ED for DCS World and LM for Prepar3d. Using the F-84F commercially once or twice a year is not currently a priority for me though. There is no consistent money in it and I'd rather not have random strangers screwing up my cockpit. I do help third party sims at air shows though. Better for random public to screw up their cockpits than mine. $50 a pop is not worth it if people are taring up a cockpit that took years to assemble from impossible to find parts. I might humor having the F-84F at an air show as a static display, but no way I want people crawling around in the cockpit abusing it like a coin operated video game. Hopefully, that properly addresses your questions. :smilewink:

Actually Brad, not Brian. Yes, you can blend 2x1 just fine. If it goes out of calibration you'll know it though. I'm picky with my setups regardless of 3x1 or 2x1 though and like to maintain good calibration while in use. Just be mindful that the more rigid your projector mounts the less problematic routine calibration will be. My first setup had cheap Monoprice mounts and the projectors were mounted in the basement right under the kitchen. People would walk through the kitchen and after a few days my alignment would be off 4-5 pixels. Fixing calibration is only a one minute thing, but it gets annoying if you have to do it every few days. With a rigid mount you'll minimize calibration issues though. With you mounting in an attic, at least you're not mounting on a ceiling that has people walking upstairs on. :) Be mindful that 2x1 configuration is primarily an AMD Eyefinity exclusive. NVIDIA Surround is only 3x1. There is no intermediate 2x1 NVIDIA Surround option.

The topic is about what HOTAS people would suggest and why. I think you'll find other people want to know about options people have experience with. Don't shoot the messenger if you don't like the information given. It was done to be helpful afterall. The build quality on the X-52 is of cheap construction. It's feel and play seems like a toy to me. I have no experience with the logitech stick. Personally, I'd suggest neither. You get what you pay for in controllers.

Yep, 120hz 1080p is not cost effective atm. 2500 ANSI lumens 1080p isn't cost effective at the moment either. Same with ultra short throw. It amazes me how 1280x800 can get things so right in most specifications except the resolution and 1080p can get it typically so wrong. If manufacturer's would make a 1080p using the specs of their typical ultra short throws we'd all be set.

Working several different projects at the moment. There'll be info when there is info. Plans are still moving forward on it. :smilewink: Moving into a 40x60 shop this weekend and also pulling the canopy and ejection seat on my F-84F.

It's ED's platform. They set the ground rules. They have every right to dictate.

Everything drops into DCS: World as a module.

It's difficult to get a truly unbias answer on what HOTAS to use. People have emotional investment in hardware that expensive. The more $$$ invested the more bias there can be. You often see it with video cards too. I've used both the X65 Pro and the Warthog. I like both of them but for different reasons. The force sensitive stick on the X65 feels less of a toy than a stick on a gimbal. The problem I've found is there are some pieces on the X65 that like to fall off. The hat on the throttle unscrewed on the one I've used before. I really like the compact stick for the Warthog. You can side mount it or mod it for center floor mount. There is a bit more plastic than I want on the Warthog throttle in places it really needs metal. Those are just two observations on the X65 and the Warthog. I'll let you make up your mind if they have any weight or meaning to your purchase. Also I have no practical experience with CH Products hardware, so I have nothing to say about them. Either way, all three options have minor nitpicks but in all three cases you'll have solid controllers.

How Will Addons be Integrated to MP?
BHawthorne replied to Zakatak's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
The list of art assets being served from the game server shouldn't be an issue. Serve the files from their source or from a secondary file server that does not use the resources or bandwidth of the game server. If you login to a server that needs 50 new files, the game server tells you to snag the files from a separate file server or torrent cloud. Personally, I suggest ED release a monthly torrent that includes add-ons that meet their QC standards. New content would be released monthly or bi-monthly torrent basis. Those that don't can be served by the third party in their own torrent. Either way it needs to be largely transparent to the end-user and just work. DCS World is moving towards a persistent world environment and needs to be treated like one with the ability to be always up to date. -

I'm hoping at the very least that ED updates clients with the external aircraft models for all third party aircraft. That way everyone can see and fly with other people even if they can't fly those particular aircraft themselves. -
Highly unlikely, they're super rare. The only reason why these airframes exist are they were instructional airframes demiled long ago. It would of had to of been in the 80's or earlier. I'd guess most of that stuff is recycled into beer cans now. USAF no longer demil like that anymore. They require 4x4" shredding now. With you being outside the US, export restrictions apply making it further impossible. Besides, if I found one I'd want it myself. :smilewink: Pima Air and Space Museum has a very cool A-10 cockpit section in their first building though. It would be exactly what I'd want if I ever found one.

I'm also interested in the F-15 and B-52, but I think those SFM will be in FC3? Here is my friend's B-52 cockpit: Here is my friend's F-15 cockpit:

It being a kickstarter project might be an option. I'd need to collaborate with several people to make it a success though. I don't have the knowledge to do it on my own hence the offer of a bounty for anyone that would complete and release a SFM F-84F with good 3d model. I thought I mentioned why in my first post. I own 51-9345 and crew chief 52-9089...the real aircraft. DCS: World will be wired into the cockpit of 51-9345 as a flight simulator using the real cockpit section. :smilewink: I would like to use it in a 50's era fighter-bomber combat role as the aircraft was originally used for. Here is 51-9345. This is my project fuselage. Here is 52-9089. I totally rebuilt the cockpit. I still need to install the A-4M gun sight into it later this summer.
