Legitimate developers don't mask their contact information even for spam reasons. This is because that contact information can just as easily be bot harvested off their main website. Also, one would not just implement .org, they would use .com...

There are a few people I know with the Obutto setup over on the EVGA forums. They use them with triple-head display, racing wheel setups though. In the last 6 months the price has gone up on the Obutto setup. It used to be $350. I think they switched distribution channels and the prices got bumped about $100 higher. I've not heard anything bad about build quality from the people I know have them. No news is good news I guess.

20 minutes a panel isn't bad at all. The labor involved in all these specialized parts kills a lot of profit. Anything you can do to get labor times down on them the better for you. I just wish I had a 3 axis VMC, a router table and a laser etiching machine in my shop. I'm limited to pipe bender, tubing roller, mig welding machine and a band saw to fabricate screens. :)

Whoever it is, it's not legitimate, because they're hiding their identity behind GoDaddy's anonymous domain proxy service.

I got a bit of a chuckle out of that also. But there is a distinction that needs to be made -- there is constructive crazy and then there is destructive crazy. I'd like to believe this sort of hobby is constructive crazy.

An X4 940BE should cap out around 3.8ghz depending upon the mobo. That particular CPU hits a brick wall around 3.7-3.9ghz.

DCS:a10 specifics going from i7 920 - > 2600k.
BHawthorne replied to metalnwood's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you've ever pulled the standard fan housing off of a GPU and checked the factory seating of the cooler on the GPU you'll often see that they apply TIM like it's peanutbutter not a medium for heat exchange between the GPU and the heatsink. First thing I'd do is swap out the factory TIM with something like AS5 and have it properly applied. If you do pull the heatsink, be mindful that often on video ram there are TIM pads there for a reason. Don't tear or lose those as they ensure direct contact between the video ram and the heatsinks over them. My post is not specific to any video card type, it's general information that is applicable to all. -
Laser etched.

DCS:a10 specifics going from i7 920 - > 2600k.
BHawthorne replied to metalnwood's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
IMHO, the move between 920 and 2600K isn't worth it. Your current hardware isn't antiquated by any means. It probably is better than 75% of the people around here. I would only upgrade if you're the type that upgrades on a yearly cycle. -
Yep, most real stuff is 400hz. You making an F-86 simpit? Two of those three gauges are common to my F-84F simpit.

A significant amount of tech hardware sites doing GTX590 reviews ended up burning up their cards. We're not talking a small number -- we're talking 10+ cherry-picked reviewer cards went up in a puff of smoke. If you're an OCer, the GTX590 is a lemon design. Stick to two GTX570 and GTX580 for better overhead.

Thinking of grabbing a 6990 , DP port question.
BHawthorne replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For uniformity sake, I suggest all ports out DP and use the $30 mini-DP to single-link DVI ACTIVE adapters. My reaosning is that the adapters introduce latency and a small bit of tearing into use. With all of them using the same setup though there will be no marked difference between how the displays look though. If you're buying the 6990 to be future proof, you're in for a rude awakening. The card will be EOL in under a year and will be eclipsed by better cards annually. The card will be aniquated in about 2 years. Two years from now the performanace of the card will be equivalent to a $150 mid-range card. That's inacurate, both the $100 and the $30 active adapters still exist. The $30 only has single-link DVI bandwidth and the $100 one has dual-link DVI bandwidth. You only need single-link for up to 1920x1200. The dual-link is only needed for a 30" 2560x1600 display. My particular setup uses 6 of the single-link active adapters. Incorrect, NVIDIA won't do NVIDIA Surround without two GPUs in SLI mode. NVIDIA dual GPU cards do SLI mode on a single card, therefore can do NVIDIA Surround. The GTX590 has been a lemon of a card though. I suggest if you do go NVIDIA, go with two GTX570 or GTX580 over their single card solution. The problem with NVIDIA is they don't give anywhere near the options that AMD cards give. NVIDIA is only 3x1, while AMD can do 2x1, 3x1, 4x1, 5x1, 2x2 and 3x2 in both landscape and portrait modes. Also AMD can do extended displays on the extra ports while NVIDIA is stuck dedicated to NVIDIA Surround on the two cards while in use. One thing AMD does better than NVIDIA is offer more video ram on cards. You really need 2GB minimum to do 5760x1080 right. The more video ram the better, or it'll bottleneck with higher settings. My 5x1P system is significantly bottlenecked because of only the 2GB of video ram when running at 6000x1920. there is no real solution out yet to account for 5x1P and high settings, but with 3x1 you're in a lot better shape with 2GB. -
Just a bit of insight... If you've got that much space for a room and that much time and expense invested into the simpit build, go dual or triple 1280x800 projector and circular screen. LCD is such a backwards way to go in a high fidelity simpit build. 3x 1280x800 projectors @ $550 each. 8 linear yards of Tendo screen fabric from Rose Brand $180. 4x 12 foot pieces of plastic trim from Home Depot to form the screen curve ~$40. Projector mounts from Monoprice ~$40.

Graphics Card Recommendation for 2560 x 1600

8800GTS -> GTX580 is a HUGE jump. :) -
The point is 11.4 preview is not a release ready driver, while 11.3 is. 11.4 preview is beta quality, while 11.3 is certified for release. That is the distinction and the point. That being said, I'm sticking with 11.4 preview for now.

Hrrrm, maybe "All Aspects of Warfare" or "Angle of Attack". Both have demos on Steam.

Cool A-10C pics! I plan on taking a few 5x1P pics of LOMAC 2.0 and Black Shark later this week. I still need to pick up A-10C though. @Peyoteros Your sig is highly misleading. Erase all lines on a map and everyone will fight everyone else. Lines denote sovereignty. If no land is sovereign, it means that everywhere is up for grabs if you have the firepower. In a fairytale world everyone would live in harmony with no boarders. We don't live in a fairytale world though. Those lines are drawn by ideals, history and blood and no two organized entity's ideals are truly the same. :smilewink:

You can get so much more for so much less though. My F-84F I own was only $3500 and $1500 for the trailer.

If anyone here buys one these - WE WANT VIDEOS OF IT UP AND RUNNING!!!

Actually, those platforms are worth a bit on $$$. The piece of crap fiberglass thing on top of it isn't though. -
Crap for $20k pricetag...

It's been confirmed the 6990 is 5x1P capable. At least that gives a current generation card and an upgrade route to those that might have 5870 E6's. I'm currently quite happy with my 5870 E6's though, so no hurry for new hardware for me.

Falcon 4 was a milestone in Sims some 10 years ago...
BHawthorne replied to tigertoo's topic in Chit-Chat
God I hope not. I'd like to see meaningful sims be developed more often than that. -
Cool, it has built in plumbing. No need to pause the sim to get up and go to the restroom anymore.:thumbup:
