That's just it though, Greenlight takes it out of the hands of Valve and leaves it up to the customers to pick the games. Nothing is lost by listing DCS: World on Greenlight and seeing what customers will vote for it. It's value added to have it on Steam, not a must. I see no immediate negatives if it is though. If DCS: World uses it's own patch engine Steam updates are largely irrelevant.

Alex just announced the NTHUSIM HMD Edition for pre-order. I'm gathering a short list of people I know that did the Kickstarter to also assist with testing. Both Alex and I are in direct contact with Palmer.

My plan is to still progress with this sort of design for my next screen project. I'm making good headway on my F-84F cockpit for an airshow in September. Until that's done I'm holding off on any detailed experimentation on this. My plan is to still do rear projection because frankly even with short throw projectors front projection won't work right without some major voodoo and mirrors. On a slightly unrelated note, I'm assisting Immersaview and Oculus with a NTHUSIM HMD edition. Expect some sort of announcement in the next few weeks. That's eating into my spare time too.

You'll be able to find someone, it's just as matter of digging around for a machine shop that has some downtime. To make things a lot more easier for them make sure the DXF files are ready for them before hand in sheet size they can cut on their machine. They'll spend about 15 minutes designating tool paths on the dxf vector lines and then just run it if they have the material stock on hand.

I'm liking the direction this thread is heading. Some very cool camera configurations. I'm re-configuring a simulator at a museum and I gain two more spare projectors now. I have 6 laying around. I'm in the process of sheetrocking and insulating a shop at the moment. Once it has climate control in, I'm going to be playing with some of these ideas IRL. I have from now till September 29th to get my F-84F cockpit ready for Cockpit Fest USA. After that and the shop being functional I expect some fun projects this fall.

You misrepresent my intent. No nastiness involved with my statement. :smilewink:

NVIDIA or ATI in a multimonitor setup?
BHawthorne replied to gofrm76's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
They'll be faster in general but are tied to the same drivers -- so if your 4XX-series card has quirks your 6XX-series most likely will too. The 670 and 680 cards have a lot of capability for their size though. -
I know of at least 3 gaming news sites that still host the Beta 2 files. If you can't find them you haven't spent 5 minutes looking.

NVIDIA or ATI in a multimonitor setup?
BHawthorne replied to gofrm76's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No matter what you do, you take a hit with windowed mode. AMD is the clear winner purely by port flexibility if you're going multi-display. You'll find some people prefer driver stability and/or 3D Vision capability of NVIDIA in preference of port count though. With video cards, it really depends upon what you're trying to accomplish. I'm a former EVGA forum moderator, but I play on both sides of the fence when it comes to video cards manufacturers. -
Want the old Nevada in World? Just drag it over from your Beta 2 directory. :smilewink:

To get everything for free apparently. :megalol:

ED is not a charity organization. They rebuilt the map from the ground up, it's a totally different map development team and a totally different rendering engine. It's not the same product that was mentioned in A-10C beta. That Nevada map died with the dev group that was doing it. I feel it's reasonable to purchase DCS: Nevada as the first proof of concept on the new terrain rendering engine. How else are they supposed to offset the cost of the terrain engine development if they give it away?

SimHQ interview - DCS Q&A with Matt Wagner
BHawthorne replied to 159th_Viper's topic in Community News
I beg to differ. It's a critical component of a persistent world platform. It'll become even more critical as time goes on and more content is cleared by ED. -
You can add A-10C but not yet BS 1 -> 2 upgrade. Steam BS is only version 1.

Yes, the key works with the DCS: World A-10C module. DCS: Black Shark 1 is on Steam for $5, but I didn't mention it because that key will not work with DCS: World. I suppose if someone wants DCS: Black Shark 1 for super cheap, it's available on Steam though.

Most of the ramp aircraft should also be open. 737, 727, KC-135 and air stairs to look into the B-52D and F-84F cockpits. I'll have my F-84F cockpit there setup next to the museum's F-84F. They're different block aircraft so they have differences in the cockpits. Mine is a -10-GK while the museum's is a -51-GK so the paint scheme inside and out and the main instrument panel configurations are different. An update of cockpits I've heard added to the list are an F-16 and an F-111 cockpit. Here is a embed of that YouTube link, to make it easier. qarhENyyu4Y

DCS: A-10C is 60% off till July 23 on Steam. $16 is dirt cheap for the sim. http://store.steampowered.com/app/61010/

Many USB video adapters are not DirectX/OpeGL capable. It really depends upon the USB adapter you're using?

Wow! thanks Wags and ED team

Doing great on my end. At around an hour for the whole torrent. -
Excellent, send Justin an email of your needs with the registration. If you have any question he or I can answer them. :) I'm knee deep in working on my cockpit at the moment. I'm also using this event as a motivator to get it in good shape.

Barnstomers has some cool stuff on it. I purchased it from a classified ad in 2008. Yep, it gets it's own building with projectors. Back then it was a simple gunsight -- an A-4M to be exact. Same one that was in the F-86 Sabre. Lots of gunsight footage around from that era with MiG-15 kills. The gunsight and first surface glass I have for mine are actually pulls from Sabres. Lots of common cockpit gauges and parts in the 50's era fighters and trainers. I have several reels of 16mm Sabre gunsight camera footage from the USAF. The F-84F really isn't as sexy as the F-86 was, but they have a lot of common instruments between them. I really prefer the throttle quadrant of the F-84F over all the other 50's era fighters though. It's design is ahead of it's time.

Excellent build. I like when someone shows initial pics and it's mostly there.

A virtual cockpit isn't overly important for me, because everything will be real. Others that want to get the aircraft though will probably want one. I'm mostly looking for an accurate high fidelity airframe model tied to the SFM for DCS World. I'd like it to look like my aircraft when it was in active service at Luke or Sheppard AFB in the 50's with natural metal finish. Any other skins are up to the imagination of the 3d artist. I'd like it high enough quality to be one of the add-ons for DCS World, but no need to carry the DCS label. IE: SFM but up to FC3 quality. As for deadline, the deadline is when all criteria are met. I'm a realist, it'll be done when it's done.

To optimize the ability to throw distance on the projectors I suggest aligning the cube 45 degrees to the wall corners and putting the projector into the corners.

Here is me pulling the ejection seat on my F-84F Thursday. Today I'm working on the museum F-84F. :)
