  1. ED is open to the idea of commercial seat licensing, but you'll have to work the details with Wags. I've spoken with him about it in the past. Don't expect to be using DCS World in a commercial setting under the consumer license.
  2. Thread duplicate: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=99098
  3. Taking bets they're probably just running Prepar3d and multi-projector Eyefinity spanning.
  4. FSX still gives me terminal nerd rage. Even on a 5ghz Intel i7 it behaves like a steaming pile of slide show. :badmood:
  5. I'd go best single GPU. I don't really like dual-GPU cards at all. It's still limited by whatever SLI is capable of. In many ways you get diminished returns on SLI. My personal pick for you would be a GTX680 4GB version. If you want to compromise a bit go GTX670 4GB. Video ram capacity is critical for NVIDIA Surround. You'll want 4GB version instead of 2GB.
  6. I'm assuming he meant solid gray acrylic sheet and that they're not backlit.
  7. Just a small note on the mil-spec font. It's designed that way so CNC toolpaths can be used to etch the font. A fine head endmill can be used.
  8. The question shouldn't be "best for DCS", but rather "best at something in particular for DCS" and why. Be mindful that most people don't not know the difference between qualitative and quantitative statements. Best is qualitative -- there is no right answer to qualitative statements. I'll give you a few examples... NVIDIA is best at stereoscopic 3D, because of it's integration of NVIDIA 3D Vision at the driver level. AMD is best at mutli-display, because it has significantly more spanning modes and port options than NVIDIA at a driver level. Even then those aren't absolutes. If you're just doing 1080p single screen and no S3D, either NVIDIA or AMD will work great provided you can get the best single GPU for your budget range. DCS looks great using a 670 or 680 for NVIDIA or a 7950 or 7970 for AMD.
  9. If I get motivated I can convert them later this week using AI.
  10. I find it hard to believe that the metals in those engines would be easy to recycle. Aren't they specialized high temp alloys?
  11. GT750 are good 0.72:1 form Optoma. Personally i use GT720. THe GT700 and GT720's are EOL though. Many people are using them in their multi-projector setups. Short throws typical come in 3 different spec pools : 0.72:1, 0.61:1 and 0.49:1-0.52:1. THe problematic issue is they're all limited to 1280x800/1280x720/720p native. There are none within this spec that are 1920x1080/1080p native. While I recommend Optoma because I've used them for years, there are other options out there like BenQ, Viewsonic and Acer that have good pedigree.
  12. Was that the L-39 that caused the licensing issues with the Navy? Cool paint scheme but the story behind that is interesting too.
  13. To give you an idea, when I worked for a aerospace subcontractor for Boeing, many parts had a pass/fail tolerance of 0.030" in the quality control process. I wouldn't worry about tolerances in the 1/1000" range.
  14. I think you'll find most home built mini-mill CNC work is around 0.010" accuracy worse case depending on the slop in the axis. Often more accurate to around 0.005". It depends upon the machine you're using though. When you're splitting hairs in 1/1000ths it's a bit moot point though for visual inspection. Most simpit parts people are guessing extrapolated from photos and in some cases are off by inches.
  15. SLI and Crossfire is all based on gaming profiles as to how it occurs and what settings it uses. If there is no profile available, it'll use the default profile. Most people have their setup default ad single GPU profile, not SLI/Crossfire. You can manually make a game profile for DCS though. People always confuse the words support and work. Something might not be supported but it could work. In those cases you have to figure it out on your own manually though.
  16. Jezebel's or Beechcraft? :megalol:
  17. Now that you have prototype pieces I suggest they be used to pull a mold so you can use casting resin to produce them. That way you'll be more accurate on the knob color.
  18. A lot of it has to do with even in a communist country there is a fast growing middle class with a larger pool of disposable income than in the past. The medium disposable income is improving there for luxury and convenience goods. Consumers with disposable income push economies and progress. With how many people live in China, once that population is empowered with disposable income, it'll be something interesting to witness. Economic health and prosperity isn't just a western first world entitlement. We've got to work for it and ensure it happens or we'll continue to lose our edge.
  19. Considering how financially screwed Beechcraft Wichita is right now, they'd probably sell you the CAD assembly files for it for a 6-pack of beer and a lap dance at Jezebel's.
  20. How are the specs compared to the Dell 21:9? Are they using he same LG panel? I really like the Dell one because of the port connectivity options. Now just to have someone make a 120hz controller board for the panel and have some random Korean companies make Catleap versions of it for $400.
  21. Shockingly enough you'll notice that China's progress is remarkably like the US in the 20th century. Spaceflight, carriers, industrial build up, etc... While the US unravels what it did in the 20th century, China is just now experiencing it's technological, industrial and economical renaissance. It's a bit more unnerving if you frame it in the context of momentum and progress during a period of growth than to state it like you did. The US sure isn't growing like it did back then. I frame it as the US has lost momentum and focus. Most people's patriotism will cloud thier judgement on this issue though. YOu've got to see the forest through the trees.
  22. Transgressions? You mean like EA with BF series and Activision with CoD series? Those are the true transgressors. You guys really crack me up with this misperception that ED is doing bad things to you. Other companies would spend 500 million dollars on marketing and hope you didn't notice that CoD 45 is the same game as CoD 20.
  23. ED only has so much manpower. If ED dropped everything else this second and spent the next 1.5 years working on an DCS quality Russian fixed wing, you'd magically have a thread 10 pages long in here stating that ED has an Eastern bias and that they're located in Moscow. It's up to the 3rd parties to put the manpower out there towards Russian hardware...and for that matter Western hardware.
  24. We want the highest fidelity possible in a niche market using partially classified source data. That's a tall order to deal with. It's another reason why 3rd party development makes logical sense. In order to make this a viable platform with a lot of content you need manpower. That can be fulfilled with 3rd party activity. If there is sufficient demands, form a 3rd party that makes Soviet hardware for the sim. A sense of east/west balance is no longer something that can be pointed at ED. THe whole community shapes the DCS catalog now.
  25. Yep, the TN panel viewing angle thing is one of those things that is hard to explain without seeing it in real life. It's not game breaking but it's a minor annoyance.
