Buying Used Warthog - what to look for?
Joe Lighty replied to Joe Lighty's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the responses, guys - and just in time too! Was suitably impressed with the unit - managed to negotiate the final successfully also, for a slight saving - the seller was a really decent guy and it really was in excellent condition. You're not wrong there - thankfully it is in REALLY good condition. No signs of obvious stiction at this stage, which was nice - I'm confident to crack it open and re-grease as per the vids available, but happy not to have to at this stage. Looking forward to setting this up for the upcoming F18! Cheers for your help! -
Hi all, I am inspecting a used/second-hand TM Warthog tomorrow that I am considering purchasing. You know the deal - "only used once", "as new", etc... :) It is complete in its original box. I am wondering what I should be looking for/checking when assessing whether I should buy it. The asking price is $100 AUD (approx $75 USD) less than what I can buy a new one for, here in Australia. There may be room to negotiate on the price... I have preloaded the drivers on my laptop and intend to check all the buttons/switches/axes/leds/stiction/etc. Anything else the learned community can recommend? Cheers! Joe

Many thanks for your response.

Does this adaptor also work with a Cougar grip? Is there a way to get the Cougar grip working on a Gunfighter 2 base?

Please help with TM Cougar setup :)

Many thanks, Dudikoff, I'll give this setup a go! -
Please help with TM Cougar setup :)
Joe Lighty replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Resurrecting this thread from a few years ago. I can't, for the life of me, manage to get DCS (or I guess, Win 10) to see both axes on the microstick! I can get one to show up, but then not the other. I played around with different settings in CCP, but can only ever seem to get one axis to show in the drop down box in DCS. Any ideas? I only have 7 axes activated in CCP, as I don't have rudder pedals and there not using the toe brakes, etc... -
I would prefer they quoted dates, rather than seasons, particularly if they are marketing themselves as a worldwide software developer.

Thanks for your quick response - please don't waste too much of your time on this - I'm sure I've set something up incorrectly, I doubt it's a problem with your profile!

Hi there and thanks for making these profiles. I'm having some noob issues - I'm assuming it's my lack of knowledge which is the main cuplrit... I'm getting the profile loaded ok - but having problems getting the "basic" function to work. Eg the F5 profile is loaded and the profile button is green - some of the switches/rotaries work, but the gun doesn't work - ie when the main trigger is half pressed the gun doors don't open and when the trigger is full pressed the gun doesn't fire. The zoom rotary works, the speed brake/flap swich works etc. Also, the trim hat works, but the pitch trim is in the opposite sense! Ie trim back, nose goes down... Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks, Debolestis - this was at least part of the problem. I've tightened everything and can now successfully calibrate the whole lot. Have had a quick play with it and my initial observations is that this is a good mod - has taken me a while to install and set up, however this sort of mod is pretty new to me - the assistance along the way from Debolestis and Sokol1_br has been plentiful, rapid and much appreciated. I'll follow up with a more in depth review in a short while. Thanks all for your assistance.

Ok, so I found a fault in one of the cable connectors - all fixed and buttons on grip are working again! BUT, I'm having some serious trouble with the Y axis - I can't get any positive (forward) response from the MagRez sensors - in Foxy Analyser I can't move the target forward of the central position. Pulling back works fine. If I try a manual calibration, it says that the "maximum position is less than the defined centre position for the Y axis." I have tried rotating the annular magnet, and can achieve a change in the Y Axis Raw value, but pushing the stick forward (from a mid range raw value) results in a DECREASE in the Y axis value. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for the advice - will investigate the cable more carefully. I haven't opened the grip previously - I imagine that should be fine. Will let you know how I go.

Is there a method of determining if the hand grip if faulty or if the main Cougar PCB is the cause of the buttons on the hand grip not working? I have found that when running Foxy's Joystick Analyser, that if I disconnect the stick handle from the PS2 connector, ALL the stick button lights illuminate in the Analyser, for a short period, then go out. Same thing happens if I gently shake the cable - perhaps I've inadvertently damaged the PS2 cable - will remove and test and also see if TM has a spare. Another question, if I may - if the PCB is damaged and I swap to an Arduino board and use MMjoy, is it possible to still incorporate the Cougar throttle with the joystick? Thanks.
-
Ok, MagRez sensors installed, connected and working beautifully! Only problem now is buttons on flight stick are not working - at all... Buttons on throttle are fine. Have checked wiring, re-seated stick on base - tried everything! I hope I didn't fry anything in my initial power up and magnet calibration checks. Had a quick fly and the joystick itself works really well - reasonably happy with the gimbal and spring setup - the stick is much "looser" than I'm used to, but the feel is nice. I just wish the f&cking buttons would work!!!! Suggestions appreciated - thanks to Debolestis for his great gimbal design and Sokol1_br for his assistance.

Perfect, just what I was after! Many thanks! My Cougar is definitely 5V. Knowing the middle pin is Signal will make it easy enough to work out which one is +5V.

Hi there, Need some assistance with this mod, please. I have installed all the parts into my existing Cougar - the 3D printed parts by Debolestis are very good, the gimbal is very smooth. I am using the MagRez GVL224 sensors and the existing Cougar PCB. I've searched everywhere for the Cougar PCB wiring diagram, but no luck. I'm basically wanting to know which cables to connect from the +/-/out pins on the MagRez to the original Cougar PCB. I've tried plugging my bare Cougar PCB into the USB on the pc and testing the pins for plugs J5 (x-axis) and J6 (y-axis). I can get a +5V reading, but my electronics knowledge is poor - not sure if I'm positively identifying which one is the +5V out pin. I'm happy to plug away and try - but will this risk blowing/damaging the MagRez??? If anyone can advise me what the original Brown/Red/Orange cables on the original pots are, it would be really helpful. Cheers!

Your timing is perfect - my parts arrived today - GVL224 sensors on the way! Thanks for detailing these instructions so well.

Replace TM Cougar USB Cable
Joe Lighty replied to Joe Lighty's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the advice - have emailed them and will see how we go - many thanks. -
The dog has chewed the long USB cable on my TM Cougar - I haven't opened it up yet to see what the internal terminations are like, but is this pretty easy to replace, or are we talking "micro electronics" inside? I don't really have an idea where to purchase a new cable of such length? Any ideas? Thanks.

I still haven't heard anything from MilesD for weeks...
-
Just for info, I have left a message here, PM'd Miles and also emailed him directly (about a week ago) and have had no response... Has anyone else heard from him recently?
-
I am interested in purchasing the kit for stick and throttle, please.
