  1. This matter doesn't specifically apply to Operation Pontus but appears very important in this campaign because you have to choose your weapons. I don't really understand how to forecast the weather with the few informations I get in the briefing, especially considering the clouds. I guess the lower the atmospheric pressure, the higher the risk of thick clouds. I experienced that 29.88 hg can give a very slightly cloudy sky. 29.82 hg heavy clouds with rain. Is it that simple? Is this the only information usefull?
  2. in the DCS manual https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/upload/iblock/9ff/DCS_User_Manual_EN.pdf it is written page 68 : When the "USE THESE OPTIONS FOR ALL MISSIONS" checkbox is unchecked in the Options\Gameplay menu, the locked mission options will override the settings in the main Options. However, when the "USE THESE OPTIONS FOR ALL MISSIONS" check-box is checked, the settings in the main Options screen will take priority. I tested this option (checked) in the Cerberus North campaign, it doesn't function. Best regards.
  3. Tried . It seems there is a frame rate drop when you fly the mission in the editor. I can't afford it.
  4. I can't understand this argument. If some people want hardcore settings, they set and lock everything to their wishes in their own DCS gameplay options. In a single player mission, locking options has no purpose. Everyone plays according to his own rules set in his own DCS options. I think forcing and locking options makes sense in multi player missions, to enforce all players playing with the same rules. Note : in the DCS manual https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/upload/iblock/9ff/DCS_User_Manual_EN.pdf it is written page 68 : When the "USE THESE OPTIONS FOR ALL MISSIONS" checkbox is unchecked in the Options\Gameplay menu, the locked mission options will override the settings in the main Options. However, when the "USE THESE OPTIONS FOR ALL MISSIONS" check-box is checked, the settings in the main Options screen will take priority. I tested quickly checking this option, it doesn't function. Yes, I noticed you can't edit (save) a mission. It's understable. Your work, your property.
  5. That's why you shouldn't lock. Those who want to play hard core don't use the view keys. Just like God in Paradise gave Adam & Eve the free will ...
  6. The option to watch other aircrafts and other views are locked. OK it's a cheat. We are bound to play hardcore. I'm frustrated with that. I like to watch scenes when I have nothing better to do. For example, watch the eagles sweep the sky when you ingress, or the tornedos bomb the target when you egress. And I admit I also sometimes cheat. I'm not quite happy with this choice of the designer. We should have a choice. After all, its' not official competition or exam. I thought OK then , I'll watch the all thing afterwards, I'll save the track, get the pop corn, and watch the all story from different views. How frustrating, it's the same restrictions in watching the track than in playing the mission ! Can we change that ?
  7. Thanks. That's weird, because I don't use desktop control in VR. Don't how how it came to happen. Now I guess I know how to remove it. Thanks.
  8. I just installed openXR and I'm currently testing. Sounds great, significant FPS improvement. BUT ; from time to time, a big circle area in the centre of the FOV appears and I get a black & white image of the real world (my PC, my office ...). I suppose it's a feature. Not a bad idea, but I didn't ask for it, and I have no idea how to remove it when it appears. It only happened since I used openXR. Can you help me ? I have HP reverb G2.
  9. Still, I'm not an aeronautics engineer, but I don't understand correlation between in flight INS GPS realignement and CCIP ....
  10. Someone told me to check my INS settings. I use automatic start (I know I shouldn't) that sets INS to NAV and to not IFA, which is a shame. So I set the INS to have the best accuracy (IFA) despite I don't understand the link between INS and CCIP. I also checked that the A/G radar was scanning displaying the A/G radar page on a DDI. I noticed that sometimes on the hornet, the A/G display looks like the radar is actually not scanning. I'm quite sure CCIP requires the radar. At last, don't know if it's the INS setting, or radar, or wathever, I got a proper DIL. Problem solved.
  11. I started the campaign and I really enjoy the quality of immersion, and all the context, documentation. Very impressive so far. I don't understand what happens when I attempt a bomb pass in mission 02. I assume CCIP is the required bombing mode. I'm well aligned over IP point (FAC confirms), but than something strange happens with the Display Impact Line. It goes very shaky and more and more horizontal as I approach the target. I already experienced slight drifts (wind I guess ?) but this is most extrem and I never saw this. So what ? A bug ? A jamming device, part of the scenario ? Am I supposed to switch to manual mode ?
  12. Submarines of course ! Got them. Mission completed. Very interesting and thrilling mission. Full of surprises.
  13. What is a Sinker I have to count ? Didn't find in the DCS encyclopedia nor Internet. Could see 9 vehicles with my FLIR in the AREA, different types. It's a bit annoying that when you're in flight you're retasked and asked to count "sinkers" and you have no idea what it is. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate surprises like that : retasking, things that were not expected, it makes things look "real", exciting. I suppose "Sinker" is military jabbish a pilot is supposed to know ? And also, I'm not english native ...
  14. I don't understand how I have to collaborate with JTAC with AGM65D Missiles. The JTAC officer gives me coordinate which I don't understand, then gives me a laser code (1688, as usual). He could lase and guide a GBU, right ? But can he really lase and guide a AGM65D ? I can't find any information about that. AGM65D Missiles have their own heat-seeker guidance system, right ? So I guess I just have to take account of the coordinates he gives me (once I understand them).
  15. Same problem. I was wondering if it's on purpose, to create an unexepected event like "sorry technical problem, CAP can't take off, you're on your own", or "CAP take off delayed". I know the trick to place ground vehicles in front of AI aircrafts on parking place to prevent them to move too soon is sometimes used by mission designers. Anyway, I used "F10 - skip to push time" and everyone was in the air". Which caused me an other problem : I set the HARM designation pod on my plane, and it dissapeared in the process. Had to use the HARMs the old way which I barely master. The signs on the RWR are sometimes difficult to read (too many emitters), so was not too sure what emitter tp use on EOM mode. Luckily managed to hit 2 guiding radars with my 2 HARMs. Mission completed.
  16. That's it. Problem solved. Thanks. Strange to bind a command to HOTAS that is needed only at start then no longer in flight ?
  17. is it normal that when you start a mission in the instant action menu like "free flight" or landing or in Training menu, like "rolling and take off", that your viper has the main eletric switch power off. That means thar as soon as you enter the aircraft all system go down. You can quickly switch power on but then everything is f*d : INS (, HUD indications, ...).
  18. So where are we now ? My experience : SAMS reappeared when I upgraded DCS in July. Unfortunatly I can't remember if it was 2.7.2.8165.2 or 2.7.3.8494. It was at the rather end of a campaign (85% territory liberated). I still was not assigned any CAS mission due to lack of air superiority (wich I don't understand, but it's an other matter) and no air defense suppression (no kidding). I installed 2.7.5.10869 and started a new campaign. One sortie (repetead 3 times) : it seems SAMs disappeared again ...
  19. Thank you for your answer. I'm operating 2.7. version. I red a post on this thread about this problem of Rocket not taking-off or not even taxiing, and the workaround. My problem seems different. I made a third attempt. Waited for Rocket to taxi, and let him rolling at least 30 seconds. While he was taxiing, I started to taxi, and the mission terminated again while I was taxiing, not holding short, so "sooner". I mean not at the same point in space, but maybe the same point in time. I think maybe it was when the 2nd Mirage element started taxiing. Not sure. As I said, what is strange, is that the mission ends, and you are sent out of the simulation to the debrief panel. This usually never happens, whenever you have mission succes, mission failed, you die, you land, ... or whatever. Maybe I will try a 4th attempt waiting for rocket to t/o. But you know what it is. Have a job, a wife and kids. My wife already complains I spend too much time playing with my toy, so I prefer enjoy flying missions than testing DCS bugs : starting up, taxiing, and ... boom, game over.
  20. As I'm tired to be stuck in campaign progress (Mission 7 : 2 times on 3, nothing happens on WP2. Mission 8 : same but 100%) I copied all the MIZ files in the mission directory so I can choose any mission I want and I tried mission 9 twice. Both times, the mission ended when I hold short on 03L as fragged (pressed space). The simulation stopped and went automatically on debriefing panel which is something I never experienced before on DCS : usually, whatever happens, you have to press ESC + Quit. So I'm almost stuck on Mirage 2000 Red Flag campaign (I still can try mission 10, 11, ...) and F/A-18 Operation Pontus campaign where SAM don't engage ... a very frustating rainy week-end.
  21. Same problem on 2.7. version 2.7.6430 (not the with last may 8th patch) Gyro drift disabled on (i.e. no gyro drift) Fast alignement I also noticed a slight difference in the scenario compared to this video below (time around 40:00) after the short in-flight briefing, mission commander tells to go on Chattermark1. In the video, the frequency is jammed with repeating "beeps", so MC tells to go on CM2 which is silent. In my case (tried the mission 3 times, stuck to WP2 3 times), there is a loudy white noise (not sure of the term) on CM1. MC doesn't tell (with hands) to go to CM2. So you endlessly orbit on WP2 with the noise in your ears ... what a purgatory.
  22. I did my first campaign on 2.5.6. stable DCS version and did not have this behavior. We launched lots of HARMs. I'm starting now a new campaign on 2.7. DCS version and I also have this problem. No radar SAM.
  23. Happened to me several times. Don't loose time while taxiing or take-off. If I taki to what I consider normal speed, if I really "Hold short" (wait for the tower authorization to step on the runway), if I'm a bit slow to take-off (check-list), my wingman bumps me and it's over. So taxiing and take-off is a bit stressfull : run you fool ! Maximum speed, no proper procedure, beware of your mad wingman. He's coming fast for you, on your 6 !
  24. I have a Reverb G2 too. I still find it not that easy. As you say, it should improve after more practice. I didn't manage to catch the digits readout at the top right : where is it ? Can you give a clue ?
