Fair point, just tired of people using "switch to stable" excuse for a poorly polished release thats features are being marketed as the main game to the public so to speak, with the majority of major MP servers running OB. Anyways enough of that silliness and back to the topic at hand, performance of 2.8 for me is about the same as 2.7 with terrain shadows set to off from my experience. Was using flat terrain shadows before 2.8 dropped. Multicore should help quite a bit when it releases one day. -

The issue is not because the cpu usage is maxed out on a single thread, it's because the DCS core engine is not even remotely utilizing the cpu because it's from the ancient Lock On era, therefore the cpu cannot push frames to your gpu to utilize your GPU fully.- 34 replies

I dont think it has nothing to do with his system. Since DC's game engine runs on such a old, outdated core engine, from my understanding the game basically uses a single thread for everything except audio. However, due to the way Windows distributes threads across multiple cores, it's now technically using multi-cores, but without any of the benefits, as it's only single threaded. Basically whats happening is you have such a powerful GPU, but the CPU cannot pump enough information to the GPU not because of the CPU's speed, but because of the software limtations of DC's core engine, which causes GPU utilizations lower then 100%. This issue becomes more prevalent on faster gpus, lets say you have a really powerful CPU like a 5800x in OP's case, if it were paired with say a much slower gpu such as a GTX 1070, even with DC's core engine limitations, you would see 100% gpu usage on a GTX 1070. But say you go to a 3080ti which is a much faster GPU, even though the CPU is still plenty fast enough to supply the gpu with frames in a optimized game, in DC's case the CPU cannot feed the GPU with enough frames due to the core engine poorly utilizing the cpu.

I would Downgrade to any nvidia driver that's several months old, the last 2-3 drivers from nvidia have been total trash, making gpus use increased power draw idle and having 100% utilization at desktop and other issues.

SA-5 Not Giving Launch Warning On F14's RWR (again)

Back in July I reported this bug as shown here: This bug was eventually looked into and patched in DCS 2.7.16.28157 on August 4th: Now it appears to be back after hearing from several people I fly with that this issue is back again killing people without warning. I am not sure when it "came back" but I remember testing this on DCS 2.7.16.28157 and it was fixed so it appears to have broken again. Attached is the track of the bug I just reproduced again in DCS 2.8.0.32235. Using the miz in the attached track, I was able to reproduce the bug in two trys, so it does not happen every single time but I would say it happens 50-75% of the time. The Issue: having two SA-5 tracking radars positioned next to each other causes a bug in the RWR threat association algorithm for the F14, causing no launch warnings to be shown. How to reproduce: Fly into SA-5 Engagement range, SA-5 will begin soft locking you as usual, the SA-5 will launch at you, but then no launch warning will be shown and two SA-5 nails from the Tracking Radar on the rwr drop in and out repeatedly until you get killed from the missile out of no where. @Super Grover @near_blind SA-5 F14 No RWR Warning.trk -

Turn your terrain shadows OFF now that they were fixed in the latest hotfix, Flat is still broken for now so dont use it as its rendering at the highest setting (default). I was using Flat Terrain shadows prior to 2.8, so switching them to OFF for now temporarily until flat is fixed restored my fps to 2.7 like levels. -

Shame that flat terrain shadows still arent fixed but at least we can turn them off completely to get back the fps we lost.

What this man said, I suspect people that saw no performance decrease or saw a increase where using default terrain shadows before 2.8 dropped, and those that saw performance decreases where using flat/off terrain shadows before 2.8 dropped. I myself on 2D have experienced decreased fps and was using flat terrain shadows prior to the update, because going from flat -> default was a huge performance killer.
