ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)
Geskes replied to rekoal's topic in Screenshots and Videos
I made a youtube slideshow as an after action report for a mission I flew with my squad. Some pics turned out pretty nice. Of course go full HD and fullscreen for maximum eyecandy. Turn up the volume also :) Click Picture for link. -
I checked this version but I dont see the 'set frequency' commands but for the FAC? The fac has right command but now I wonder if you use the radio correctly because in the way it is setup it should talk on 72 FM, not AM. You cannot tune to 72 with AM radio. If you flip the frequency selection dial to AM or FM on the FM radio, you do not choose between bands. Rather you set the radio to either the AM guard channel or the FM guard channel depending on which radio you are flipping the switch. On the AM radio, the switch will only work when flipped to AM, on the FM radio the switch will only work in FM. But for normal operation and to be able to tune into a frequency, you must leave the dial to MAN which is manual selection (of frequency, trough the frequency selector knobs). So this is why your FAC responds when you flip it to AM, the switch in that mode has no function and the radio acts as if in MAN mode. If you set it to FM, you are tuning to FM guard channel and not the selected frequency. This is the same for the AM radio, so if you set that to AM, you will not hear anything because you have activated emergency guard mode. PS I think for aircraft, setting the COMM field should be enough, and if you dont set anything they will talk on default 124. My earlier statement about set frequency being required is false, but not when setting up FAC. PPS, I also suggest to set both the helis and the f15s to the same freq so they can be monitored simultanously.

I have just found something nice and much better then RESTREPO. It is a multi-episode doc called: Ross Kemp Return to Afghanistan. If you want action up close, watch this! Within 20 minutes you will be in the ditches with the british with bullets and rpgs flying all over the place.

New SP mission: "Taking Out the Trash"
Geskes replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
I have replied in your other thread :) -
I saw your message at the mission thread and I checked this version. You shouldnt just change the COMM field of the unit, that doesnt suffice. You must give them a command, preferably the very first you give them, at their first waypoint. The command would be "Set Frequency" which you can find under 'Perform Command'. This also gives you the option to decide between AM / FM. If you put invalid frequencies (ie 30 for AM) it will not work. So the band selection for JTAC has to be on FM, then frequency 72, other airplanes AM plus 124/134) PS, use the top radio (the one directly below throttle) for AM, and the bottom radio for FM.

New SP mission: "Taking Out the Trash"
Geskes replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
Hah, yes I was already thinking of suggesting to put infantry below the bunker but I thought it wouldnt be as cool because the JTAC doesnt say bunker then but infantry. But yeh of course the F15s would then still shoot but at the infantry . Nice solution! I took a look at the F15 setup, I think for the F15s you can remove everything besides the two target groups. It shouldnt engage if it doesnt have a command to do so. Or you tried that but it wasnt reliable? In any case the automatically placed CAS -a at the first WP has to go because it will make them attack stuff you didnt designate for them to attack. -
New SP mission: "Taking Out the Trash"

Downloading now, sounds very good! Excellent mission. I enjoyed it. I have some points: -You could increase immersion completely effort free by providing the frequencies of the choppers and the F15s in the briefing so we are able to follow what they are doing. If you have them at same freq, player can tune to that freq and be updated in realtime of AI activity. For example, the choppers would report 'on station' including altitude so that way you dont have to create custom messages for that. Also they would report passing waypoints, incoming enemies and when they are engaging. The messages that you did provide where sometimes displayed a bit short, even though only one line, when you are immersed in some screen you could easily miss it so you could lengthen the display time a bit. -The F15s were quite eager in taking care of the enemy. So eager in fact that they destroyed my target before I got a chance to bomb it. When the JTAC sent me the coords, one of the F15s already had his SPI on the target which made it hard for me to designate the red triangle as my SPI. (didnt know they were at exactly the same spot then). So when finally I get the designation, I hear JTAC saying : ABORT ABORT ABORT, and then, TERMINATE, Thanks for the work, you may depart. Checked in debrief and it was an F15E that took out the target with an 65H. I havent checked the mission in the editor yet, but I think you have used an AI bunker. I see the problem because when using static object, you cannot designate it as JTAC target. So I think you need to specify each particular group the F15s need to attack. I don't know how you have done it but it looks like the default CAS assignment given at waypoint 1 is still there for the F15s causing them to attack anything they can see. -

Interactive Traffic Pattern Trainer 1.0beta
Geskes replied to Geskes's topic in User Created Missions General
I was already thinking how I was supposed to get 300kts but yes that is of course the difference between pattern entry from take-off and from another waypoint to return to base. I really appreciate the suggestion to come take a look, I will post on your forums so we can arrange a time. -
select load profile, browse to config/input/aircrafts/a10c/ select .lua corresponding with controller. Done.

thanks a lot tango! With that I can finish it. -
In CCRP mode they are.

Yes you can edit time of mission very easy. Load it in editor and select from the left taskbar the symbol that looks like a written letter, or in this case a briefing document. There you will find mission start time which you can change to your liking.

Poll, did you like your stock TM Cougar? Yes or No
Geskes replied to Sticky's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
haha, if you have only minor issues after a few year use, I guess your use for it is having it in a display cabinet as an ornament? j/k, guess you are just one of the lucky ones. I for one was not. :) -
Saying WWII aviation sucks is denying your history, it is an insult to the heroes that have come before us and paved the way for us brutal hawg drivers. These guys had some real balls, no fancy avionics, no air conditioning, no zero-zero ejection seat, no search and rescue, only getting the most out of your aircraft, fighting equal opponents in pure raw aviation carnage.

Russian planes interrupt U.S.-Japan exercise
Geskes replied to asparagin's topic in Military and Aviation
Well I thought the idea in hunt for red october was based on real technology, a magnetic hydrodynamic drive, thought it was called something like that. Not sure. So I thought maybe by now they had it fully implemented :) edit: found on wikipedia, was almost right... its called magnetohydrodynamics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetohydrodynamics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetohydrodynamic_drive but it also says it is not stealth as the movie suggest :) "The film adaptation of The Hunt for Red October popularized the magnetohydrodynamic drive as a "caterpillar drive" for submarines, an undetectable "silent drive" intended to achieve stealth in submarine warfare. In reality, the current traveling through the water would create gases and noise, and the magnetic fields would induce a detectable magnetic signature. In the novel, of which the movie was an adaptation, the caterpillar was a pumpjet." -
Those are press and hold yes, unfortunately. But what I think would work is map snapview toggle in DCS and then only map the numpad keys in target. Its two presses then but I think it'll work.

Oh then maybe I am not that far behind, I remember something like catterpillar drive from the hunt for red october? -
Have you considered using the snapview toggle? Admitting it would not be as snappy but I do use it for targetting so I toggle the snapviews so I dont have to hold it down. If you want to stick with the dual press toggle view maybe there is a slight delay necessary between the two keys? I Haven't tried it in target, I just use in-game with modifier. PS there are direct snap-view commands with LWIN, I guess if you use them it must work.

Ah, guess you have saved my night, was about to get bored. :) I have flown the mission for a good number of hours now. It was nice to see the different variations in missions and the improvements you made in for example the message system are clear. There is really already a lot of varation in the mission and I think I havent even seen every assignment yet. Sometimes it was a bit hard to make sense out of the message system because voices were going off simultaneously and sometimes it was as if they kept saying over, roger, over all the time. But I guess you know that. For proper brevity I think you can skip the "over". What you use now is radio procedure like they use in the army. It would make the messages more fluent because now they transmit like 4 or 5 times just to call eachother on the radio. The distances you need to fly are quite significant. For example one time I got shorad mission and I didnt expect the kind of threat that would be there and me and my human wingie both got owned there :) So we tried it again of course and by that time we had flown more than 200 miles already. Then the next assignment, for which we had to wait quite a bit, was 124 miles away from the first one so we were like WOW. In the beginning it is not so much a problem because you don't know what to expect. But after playing it a couple of times, you really start praying for missions that are close :) The system you have made is really awesome. The pace could be a bit higher. Or the assignments itself could be expanded so it feels a bit more rewarding after a long flight. Looking forward to the next installment, the ideas you have for implementation are very interesting.

Russian planes interrupt U.S.-Japan exercise
Geskes replied to asparagin's topic in Military and Aviation
Yes, and that is why I confirmed that I don't know if they actually did sneak in but that the us navy said they did. I know nothing about current naval warfare technology so I wouldn't be able to give input on whether it would have been possible. -

Geskes replied to asparagin's topic in Military and Aviation
No that is true :) But apparently it send shockwaves trough the US Navy community and it caused them to rethink their tactics because they said themselves they didnt see it coming. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-492804/The-uninvited-guest-Chinese-sub-pops-middle-U-S-Navy-exercise-leaving-military-chiefs-red-faced.html -

Actually that particular friendly fire incident WAS pilot error because the pilots reported their position miles away from where they actually were. This triggered the whole "There are no friendlies in the area" thing. They were about to do positioning with artillery but before that was done they already engaged. PS, the Chinese have done things like this before too, they have recently surfaced a submarine in the middle of a US Navy exercise, being able to get within torpedo range of the carrier at the center of the formation of ships sneaking trough all security. -
Very cool Grimes!

Can somebody check my mission file - why no FAC comm
Geskes replied to hreich's topic in User Created Missions General
oh lol, just looked at your mission again but of course you need to set the fac command as well :) No FAC command, no juice. So go to your fac unit, go advanced, click add, select perform task, fac - engage group, select target group OR, select enroute task, FAC, but then your unit will need to be closer to enemy or you need other AI providing locations on opfor because in this mode it will only send you targets that it is aware of.
