Can somebody check my mission file - why no FAC comm
Geskes replied to hreich's topic in User Created Missions General
Are you sure you are close enough? You have to be within a certain range before your signal can reach him. -
I'd swear I saw a variant of this where he'd say: "Oh I just went out to the back to stretch my legs for a bit and get some coffee"

Depending on whether you are using 'easy communications' setting, you'll also need to activate the right radio with the mic switch. For VHF FM this would be MIC SWITCH LEFT. If you choose the wrong radio, it will seem like you are talking but the FAC will not receive your message. I can take another look later today but from what I've seen from your mission earlier you did setup everything else correctly. Just to be sure, cause I don't remember it exactly, make sure you first let the AI set freq. and callsign and then have him act as FAC. So FAC command should be last command in the queue. PS, to rule the wrong radio issue out, enable easy communications from the options menu, then try to contact your fac. If it works the setup is ok but you need to think about using correct radio, when easy communications is disabled. -
Nice story, something for next time: If your analog altimeter is failing because of electronic system loss you can switch it to pneumatic mode by flipping the switch on its bottom right. I got this tip from someone on this forum who's name I do not recall and I have already used it countless times since :) Airspeed indicator doesnt have such a thing (obviously) but if you have anything operational indicating range to airbase, you can count the seconds it takes to do a nautical mile, say x and then do 3600 divided by the number of seconds. (Since 1 knot = 1 nm per hour, an hour has 3600 seconds). So say it takes 10 seconds, you do 1/10 times 3600 or 3600/10 = 360 knots. For landing speed it should be between 25 - 30 seconds for a nautical mile = speed between 120 and 144. Of course when you are flying at an angle you'd officially have to calculate the long side of the triangle, since ground travel of 1nm doesnt equal 1nm in air when you are descending/ascending but just subtracting a couple of seconds from your count is equal. Yes far sought but its getting late here and I was trying to think of a way to approximate airspeed in such situation, my brain farted this. Hey, its better then nothing at all. :D

Version 1.1 posted, Fixed two minor issues: -zone error which caused later messages in the mission to not display. -opfor waypoint was set at a point where it had no LOS on blufor. So now you will get messages when search is ongoing, complete and when you are RTB. Quite essential I'd say :) I broke mission in last-minute tweaks, always something unintended happens with these kind of tweaks, but it is fixed! Some mission hints: -Guns are very effective against APC's -If you illuminate the area the predator is capable of reporting new contacts referenced to bullseye position. Illumination also improves wingman spotting capability -Do not overfly your target :)

Checked your setup briefly. The FAC is set to 30 AM but that is an invalid frequency, I think you mean 30 FM? You need to change the modulation on the frequency to FM in the drop-down menu, then it will work. -
oooh, I am trying this now, mwhahahahaaa. Agreeing IFR view would be great addition! Just tried in-game, snaps are fantastics. Only thing is the lights snapview? It seems to show TACAN / ILS as in your stills instead of lights panel?

Warthoggers: Updated firmware released
Geskes replied to topdog's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, they also stay on here, when I posted they went out, I only reset the PC and saw them go out. But that wasn't true because they just go out during boot sequence. -
its not comparing apples and oranges if you are looking at out of the box sims. DCS needs no add-ons. FSX needs a shitload and you need a master degree in FSX tweaking to get it running stable without it being a slideshow. It's almost like having a wife, you need to do all those annoying things around it to get the thing you want. The addons aren't cheap either and come at the price of a full DCS simulator.

The PGM training mission states: "Laser projection is stopped after the projected bomb impact time, plus the time specified by the LS TIME (laser time) value on OSB-17" However, instead of prolonging laser time after impact, it delays activation of the laser after release. Am I misinterpreting this sentence in the tutorial or is this either an error in the tutorial or an incorrectly working LS TIME function?

Flight Qualifications Campaign
Geskes replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in A-10C Basic Flight Training Qualification DLC
It would be nice if someone has a link to some footage of aviation checkrides. I can find some but of course you have to pay to see anything more then just an intro. Also links to detailed accurate descriptions of execution of aerobatics and bfm are highly welcome. Maybe this thread should be moved to User missions and campaigns subforum? This one is meant for the stock campaigns/missions. -
Warthoggers: Updated firmware released

Confirming lights go out on power off. But it will take some time to drain all the power. Also don't get a heart-attack if they dont turn on immediately when you turn on the pc, they will only turn on once windows is loaded :) -

I don't understand. I installed this, the HID's were showing in devices and I do see now throttle and stick logo's in devices but when I go in target the firmware isnt updated. Still 9 / 17. -
please feel free to add another wingman or change loadouts to fully loaded tripple launchers for the mavs if the SP version makes me look like a sadist trying to ruin your weekly gaming night :D

Interactive Traffic Pattern Trainer 1.0beta

The file you download should have .miz extension. No need to extract that. Just place it in your missions folder, run DCS and select it from mission load screen. -
Use TARGET to assign single switches

Alt-TAB is not working fully currently, I get graphic glitches sometimes when tabbing back in. Sometimes it refuses to reload the game at all, and I will just see a black rectangle top left of my windows desktop. I have solved it personally by using a keyboard emulator. I only needed to add a push-to-talk button so I just had a button emulate the PTT keypress I mapped in TS and I was good. PS my wing uses TS2 which does not support Directx buttons for PTT, I know TS3 does. -

Thats a good story! That Mig-29 must have had balls to fly head-on pass against an A-10. I wonder if the guy passed his BFM course :P -
Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List

With the amount of times I've seen someone say this I do not think there will be many virtual pilots remaining to actually buy the sim should ED make a Viper next. :D -
Flight Qualifications Campaign

It is very hard to make something like you suggest sweinhart. Sure you can make a practice scenario but the question is if it will teach you how to do it in an entirely different situation. I don't think so. As for how to get into a hotzone without getting in trouble its quite straightforward. Make sure you stay out of engagement evelope of ground threats and you will be fine. Of course there is more to it but reading theory is more suitable for that then training mission because a training mission will only show you one example and doesnt learn you how to adapt your tactics to an entirely different threat mix on the ground. It is too specific for the partical situation. Same kind of goes for missile evasion, if you know the theory, you can apply it to any situation. There are military studies on missile evasion publically available if you want to delve into it more deeply. Check for example this one on evading A-A heaters: http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA053267&Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf or this more general thesis: http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/12609490/index.pdf or check this google scholar search link and see how many there are: http://scholar.google.nl/scholar?q=surface+to+air+missile+evasion&hl=nl&btnG=Zoeken&lr= If this is bit too much, I suggest just searching this forum, there must be multiple threads on that subject. (I guess) Dogfighting is not suitable for A-10 so if there are airborne threats you need back-up or get out of the area. If it comes down to engaging enemy aircraft being the only option something has gone terrible wrong and you might as well just eject to safe you the stress of trying to evade your attackers. -
LOL! How do you guys keep coming up with hilarious expressions like above! I am literally rolling over in pain because of all the laughing after reading that one.

I have an idea that you could try besides the windows properties. Run target. On the left side you'll see the stock profiles. Right click one and select run. A script window will pop-up with some processes going on. Below there are three buttons. One of them will read 'device analyzer'. Hit that button. You'll see quite an elaborate analysis screen. Now move the microsticks. If nothing happens I think you might have a hardware issue with the throttle component.
