NVIDIA GTX 580 Released
Fopeyducker replied to audiohavoc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sli 460's will come close and sometimes just beat the GTX580 in various bench marks. You'd need sli 470's to beat it right across the board. If I had a 460 or 470 already then going sli over GTX580 is a no brainer. If you don't have one of these already then GTX580 all the way. No risk of micro stutters, uses less power, quieter and the option further down the line to stick another one in the case if something comes along that needs the boost. No way would I go sli straight off. Imo sli is for "emergency" use only. Always get the best single chip GPU you can afford and only double up if you really have to. -

lol well you not exactly short of GPU horse power :) Probably only worth up grading if like me your still using a 200 series card. Even those that have 460 can save money by getting a second 460 and going sli which will give almost the same performance at a fraction of the price. -
Oops forgot to add a link to a guide for CarneyUK http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2008/11/06/overclocking-intel-core-i7-920/1 Temp wise as MadDog said try to stay below 80degs if you want the CPU to have a decent life span. Decent cooler and thermal compound are a must. 3.8ghz should be a walk in the park & very safe, even on air. Today I was getting 53degs at 3.6 ghz. 63degs at 3.8ghz & still under 80degs at 4.1ghz When OC'ing remember more volts= stability but also means more heat. Less volts can lead to lockups/BSOD but is cooler. If you follow the above guide start off with a BCLK Frequency of 180 instead of 200. This will give you 3.6ghz. Run realtemp then Prime95, if the temps are ok then reboot and try 190 this will give you 3.8ghz. The whole art of OC'ing is to make small changes and balance heat v voltage required to keep the system stable. Oh and just so you know 2.6ghz - 4+ ghz makes no difference at all to the current build of DCS A10 I've tried lol

NVIDIA GTX 580 Released
Fopeyducker replied to audiohavoc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah good card, worthy replacement for my GTX285, though I'll be waiting for the 3rd party versions with tweaked cooling/OC'ing. No reference cards for me thank you very much ;) -
Did a quick prime95 run to see what's what. Only ran for 10 mins with a quick and dirty OC. Reckon mine will do 4.3 with a bit of voltage tweaking but not really worth the time and effort for all the difference it makes in the real world. Should point out this is with a D0 rev CPU. I blagged it by swapping my original C0 CPU with a later one I bought for one of the office PC's :music_whistling: The C0 would only do 3.8 safely. 4.1 with the D0 with some room to spare

Thrustmaster Warthog = WOW!

What does loading the lua files do? All the my stuff was assigned as soon as I plugged it in. Only thing I added was center view to the CMS hat, (press). -
Fly the tanker not the boom. The boom operator will fly the boom to you when in range. Only time you look at the boom is once you are connected, then you have to check the colour code on the boom from time to time to make sure your speed is ok. For those that are struggling or have old, stiff joysticks just use the ALT/HDG auto pilot, makes refuelling VERY easy to do. I can connect first time EVERY time with that and go from 500lbs to full tanks. No auto pilot is a lot harder but still do-able, best I've managed with that is 500lbs to 3,500 before I got a "wobble" on lol

DCS A-10C Warthog, Beta 02 Patch Available
Fopeyducker replied to glenm's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Steady 500k should be done in an hour. Only bummer is I've been off today playing with the with the new TMWH and building missions. So I missed the actual release and the mission I've spent the past 4hrs making probably won't work now lol -
I've been flying sims on and off since the mid 90's and nothing comes close to RoF for giving you the feeling of actually flying. It is also has the most beautiful enviroment and has the best damage model I've seen. To get the most of RoF you will need two things: TrackIR preferably version 5 Some form of rudder system, as in not keys or keys mapped to your stick. Either proper pedals or at the least a rocker like I have on the X-45. Try it, the full game is a free download just limited to 14 days.

Can't fault mine either the stick is outstanding compared to what I'm used too. First two digits are quite hard to read on my throttle, I think it is 00538 -

Yeah baby just had my first flight with it. OMFG the difference between this and a 10yr old X-45 is... words fail me. I've never had so many rocket and gun kills in a single pass. It's almost like cheating lol -
If it is during takeoff, isn't that the landing gear warning horn? If you press the button next to the throttles it stops.

Strange I've got the same motherboard and all my USB stuff turns off when PC is shut down. X-45 lights, Thrustmaster MFD's, G25, keyboard, hell even the mouse. lol Hopefully by Saturday I'll be able to tell you if it's a bios setting or a WH/target bug :) -
Cool thank you Sobek. IF this candidate is ok are we likely to see anything aside from bug fixes? As in radio audio turned on, objects added to Navada etc. Or more along the lines of fixed training missions, EAC switch and so on? Happy with whatever we get tbh, well so long as it doesn't break more than it fixes lol :)

Easiest way is NOT to mess with waypoint 1 until you are nearly finished. WP1 near an airfield then just keep clicking for the rest of the WP's last one near and airfield. THEN change WP1 and the last one to takeoff and land
