Hi there, Please let me know if this isn't a bug. Whether with external power or the JFS running, the UFC can be illuminated but the radios cannot be turned on. The radios can only be turned on once an engine is running. Thanks!

Photo credit: Tech. Sgt. Matthew Plew Keen to fly the Strike Eagle when it releases? DCAF(Digital Coalition Air Force) is proud to announce that it is taking on Strike Eagle recruits to join us on release! Following years of excellent service, VF-31 will be retiring the venerable F-14A Tomcat to convert onto the F-15E Strike Eagle. As a fully staffed squadron, we want to hit the ground running, bring in new energy to our community and have you join us in this exciting new chapter. While some aspects will be contingent on the state of the EA release of the Strike Eagle, we have prepared a fully fledged airframe familiarisation course, SOPs and the appropriate integration to our existing training structure, such that by the end of the training season, newly qualified officers will be able to operate within large operations and execute tasks efficiently. How will the timetable work? DCAF will be commencing its 3 month training season from the 1st July, in which ab initio cadets will progress through familiarisation flight, circuits, formation flying, air to air refuelling, tacform, unguided & precision air to surface employment, basic fighter manoeuvres, air combat manoeuvring, beyond visual range timelines, as well as DCA & OCA gameplans. Prior to the commencement and during the training season, cadets will have access to BATS, our online training resource where users can read content, be assessed and track their progress. A snippet of airframe familiarisation: Once the training season completes all DCAF squadrons will enter the ops season, where you can expect complex missions and campaigns featuring 40+ players flush with WeCOs and JTACs. What is DCAF? DCAF(Digital Coalition Air Force) is one of the largest EU based virtual groups that plays DCS. Consisting of five squadrons, DCAF hosts complex operations and a comprehensive training environment. DCAF takes pride in its training culture and the support it provides its new members via its excellent instructors. No matter your skill level, if you’re looking to be part of a great community, this is the place to go. Onboarding: Once you get in contact, either myself or a recruitment officer will get in touch to organise an introduction. We’ll provide a full breakdown and presentation of what you can expect and how you can get involved. Want to find out more? Squad formation training
Panny replied to CaptPhoenix's topic in Digital Coalition Air Force's Posts/Forum
Hi CaptPhoenix, Going through our records I'm a little unsure whether you are a member of DCAF or not? Rest assured DCAF is fully active; this page is more a brochure for prospective members to see our activities. I trust this isn't some strange effort to pull members away from DCAF? Regards, Peter -
This was the solution. The moment is brought it to 16384 it was like I was using a new headset. I was actually quite annoyed at the fact that it's this sort of setting that affects it. Thank you so much for sharing this, I would not have found it myself. Thanks for your feedback and time in any case. As said, it seems to be a unique scenario of WMR overriding SteamVR. That said, I did have to double over all of my settings since I realised I was forcing such a high resolution while being artifically limited by SteamVR. So basically reset everything and in the F-14 I'm getting ~70FPS. For reference I have a 4090, 7900X CPU, 64GB DDR5 RAM etc., so shouldn't be an issue of horsepower. That said, I am still GPU limited according to FPSVR. Thanks to all for helping me.

Hi there, Hope all's well. I've had the Pimax 8KX for around a year, but have noticed over the last few months that the quality of clarity in DCS has reduced. I'm not sure what specific update it was. I typically fly the F-14, but without changing any settings I have found text on the Tactical Information Display to be far blurrier than it used to be. I have tried adjusting the VR resolution in DCS settings, but have found that while overall resolution improves, small text remains blurry. I have also attempted increasing resolution via SteamVR, but find no visual improvement(although GPU workload increases). Is there a particular setting I may be missing that can improve text clarity, since moving the typical sliders are not helping. I will also cross check if the issue is prevalent in my Reverb G2; however I am reasonably sure that the blurry text is not a limitation of 8KX's pixel density. Thanks, Peter

The reduction in stores drag has been great. The F-14A can really get to speed with phoenixes now. From deck to 45k feet m1.4 in four and a half minutes, with 2/2/2 or 6 minutes with 4/2/2 and bags Before you'd struggle to break the sound barrier

Just throwing in my opinion. I think it can be very easy to state that you want the manual to include lots of tactical aspects or 'how to' parts in it. However I can completely see how that leads to an ever expanding scope where more and more is needed due to the complexity of the module. I mean, @Karonwhen you started FlyandWire did you anticipate that you'd end up writing your Virtual Backseaters Guide of 600 pages, that builds on the manual? I've written parts of my own syllabus that takes a different angle and to get everything right is pretty time consuming and you really have to be tight in ensuring you don't end up adding more and more sections - for what you thought may take a couple days balloons into a week. I'm not in a position to comment on HB's working practices etc., and there are things that need to be updated, since when I was learning the module properly I was sent down rabbit holes to see how it functioned in DCS. But I completely understand that the scope of the manual is kept to describing systems rather than how to use it. It'd be a huge and unwieldy thing

People peddle that jamming the wings forward is better but never actually test it themselves. In truth the penalties for putting the wings forward will more likely punish you versus leaving it in auto. This was a test I ran a few months ago, that shows only two instances - the F-14B at 400 knots at 10k feet, and the F-14A at 15k+ feet in which it benefits from the wings coming forward. However, it's a lot harder to return the wings to auto once you're no longer in a scenario that's favourable having the wings forward.

Cockpit FAM and The Sight Head in Air to Air Modes Reference
Panny replied to Panny's topic in DCS: Mirage F1
Hey there, Sorry at this time I don't want to share it for local reference since I haven't finished it, and I've had previous documents of mine ripped by virtual squadrons without my permission. When I finish a basic overview of the F1 I may make it more accessible once I get someone to clean my work up. -
Hi there, As I've progressed in learning the F1, I've been writing down functions/graphics to help explain certain parts, where I have typically been confused in the manual. I've finished a first draft of cockpit familiarisation, in which switches and functions have their function explained and their corresponding binding in game. Additionally, I have written a small section on how the sight head changes with certain air to air modes. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vYU7C9m1gLcUJy_QWJTIbiZpr3Twjs4uNG7FND3Agtc/edit#heading=h.82iqv2f9hmv7 I'll keep updating it as and when I have time, which I notify on Discord in the documents and references channel here: https://discord.gg/U79aAxrqRT Cheers Peter

nullAs attached below: Especially in VR it's even brighter, like a pocket sun. Cheers! Peter

No problem

Hey there, Feel free to check out our group, DCAF. We train GCIs, and once trained can control for our ops - you may find it a lot more useful than just jumping on random servers! Cheers

should work now
-
Hey there, Those are my paints. I'll check that over next 24 hours and have it updated. Cheers

It might not be what you're exactly looking for in DCS, but DCAF fly the F-14A as VF-31 in the 1990/1991 timeframe. We do a set of 80s missions around 1/3 of the time, and sometimes on Forrestal.

NEW SQUADRON FOR DCS - NAFSAM is Recruiting
Panny replied to HoovaStank's topic in General DCS Squadrons

I've heard people talking about openxr, I'm just skeptical when the guide says not to look at FPS and work by feeling instead. I ended up increasing PD in DCS to 1.2, and resolution felt similar to before. Just so strange the resolution was dropped. When I have more time I'll try openXR, I just feel skeptical and don't want to dump hours for what is a marginal gain at best and more instability. Too often I've seen claimed magic fixes that don't really mean anything!
