I think it's just the game engine marking an object as inactive, so the Shkval doesn't bother with it. Mind you, this is the original DCS module from times before ray-tracing and whatnot, so it may not be emulating signal contrast lock mechanics from the real aircraft (which might take more processing power than was at hand back then) and just makes do in a believable fashion. Maybe they will model that later, who knows?

Well that's bad. Still, since we don't have the period-correct version they might do that anyway. Maybe use the rearm menu, I don't know.

Hollywood movies insist that whenever a Huey was on black helicopter duty it had red interior lighting, presumably for people inside to retain night vision. So I would like an option to have that kind of lighting to role-play black ops 'n stuff.

No, it doesn't. Russian classified info rules != American classified info rules, and none of them are made with game balance in mind. You are entitled to nothing© If we're talking multiplayer then Fat Amy will only be present on PvE servers and dogfight servers where everything goes. Not that I mind more red modules, but we'll get them when they can make them. And we still can't have MiG-23 for crying out loud!

I think we all can agree that DCS needs to expand its decal system like the one in WT. I can't bother wasting my hard drive space on umpteen shades of grey of what's fundamentally the same skin with a different emblem here and a different colour strip there. It's just getting out of hand. Same goes for the OP suggestion, it all has to be handled dynamically at the sim level.

Jester Can't Hold Target Designation in LANTIRN
WarbossPetross replied to bonesvf103's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
A-a-absolutely nothing! -
BTW, I don't have the map installed right now so I wonder if someone can check if the Khufu and Khafre pyramids are aligned. Because IRL their NE and SW corners are set along the same line so that the Old Ones can find their parking spot.

I use that as well. I had issues with the "simplified avionics" parameter or some-such, so I leave that one unchecked. Also don't bother with the simplified radar, it degrades the picture beyond any use at all.

The big problem I see with DCS maps right now is that they're... big. I know I can't afford installing both Syria and Sinai maps at the same time if I want to replay the Yom Kippur war that took place on the territory of both maps. And we don't exactly have a one single map for Israel and its surroundings that would allow that, and it wouldn't have to be a big map either. So yes, either the mappers agree upon some overlap or we all just have to sit and wait for the world map. Not to hijack the topic, but another cause for similar concern is the Iraq map where I couldn't find any airfields for Iran that would let us simulate the Iran-Iraq war.

Feedback Thread - F-4E Phantom II Patch, September 30th 2024
WarbossPetross replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Happens to me during air start as well. Freezes for almost a minute then goes on perfectly normal. Also noticed that the key-bind for the 3-way switch that switched between Sidewinders and Sparrows in the previous patch now selects only heaters. Would like to see it reverted to previous behaviour since there are separate key-binds for missiles already and I wanted to do with one key-bind instead of two. -
What do the words of the ATC mean in the radio?
WarbossPetross replied to loscsaba86's topic in Missions and Campaigns
184 (your callsign), Volokno (ATC callsign), fly heading 268 (pretty self-explanatory) for 45 (miles, kilometres? Anyway this means distance), QFE 757.47 (the atmospheric pressure at the airfield that you should dial on your baro altimeter so it reads correctly), runway 09 (course upon landing should be 090, the last digit is always zero and skipped. Also that's what the number on the near end of the runway should say), to pattern altitude (doesn't say the actual altitude, that's where you should wait for your clearance to land). -
Maybe that function was not implemented in the prototype that BS 1-2 were modelling, but since BS 3 is pretty much fictitious I don't see why we can't have it someday.
-
AFAIU they have changed the external model some time ago. Some liveries were changed for the new model but not all of them, and in those cases you get what's at your second picture. This is the original 3d-party module for DCS, so the content goes way back and not always updated. I still don't know how to tell whether the livery has been updated or not, so I just try them and delete those that don't work.

ED had an order to make a Yak-52 simulation for a customer and the agreement allowed them to make it a purchasable module. So you could say it's abandonware by default.
