I think the map is for sale seperately from the WW2assets pack??
Jamesp1 replied to Jamesp1's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
Thanks - I did spot that it doesn't include them when I looked for it. I think the fact it was in italics at the end of the paragraph meant I was only scanning the text by that point! -

Jamesp1 replied to Jamesp1's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
Thanks - that was a close call! I only checked because I was surprised it didn't show a discount on the price of the map - they should probably explicitly state it doesn't include the WW2 assets. -
I almost bought the Normandy map here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/terrains/ Which would have been a big mistake as I think the WW2 assets aren't included: Is the map really for sale seperately from the assets pack and the assets pack will be on sale for 15euro once the map is released?

Did the 1.5.5.59744 Update 1 fix VR performance?
Jamesp1 replied to Jamesp1's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks, I saw this thread:https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=176941 and noted that they were (some/mostly?) VR users reporting a problem, so assumed it was similar to 2.04 -
I've been holding off updating to 1.5.5 due to the reports about VR performance being affected. Are you getting better performance from 1.5.5.59744 Update 1?
-
Isn't the field of view tighter on a monitor though? 75 degrees vs the 90-100 you get in the rift. You're probably right though and it's just my brain isn't piecing the image together as much. Especially because I'm using 1.0 supersampling in DCS 1.5 to increase the performance (will increase this). Thanks guys, just wanted to check that other people are finding dogfighting practical before I go mad chasing after a speck ;-) Edit: Maybe it's also that I used zoom a lot before VR and haven't used it at all since. I'll give this a try.
-
I'm struggling to dogfight against the AI in VR (with labels on) because the enemy plane is so few pixels I can't really see what they're doing. Mainly I've been trying WW2 fighters. Anyone doing much dogfighting in VR? If so, how do you find the lack of pixels and do you use the zoom function (haven't tried this yet) mapped to a hotas axis or something to help?

NTTR Expansion Pack - Airfield Details
Jamesp1 replied to Phantom453's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
Thank you for mentioning this! I'd held off downloading the update as it's 20gb. It's being unpacked now so I saw this just in time to cancel it! :-) -
AI cheating behavior. Taking all the fun out.
Jamesp1 replied to robban75's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
I probably put it badly but your example just above us what i mean: the development focus is onsim aspects rather than on game aspects. Not that i have a problem with this, just that i hope flying vs the ai will get more fun with the focus on smaller calibres the normandy map will encourage. Edit what i think of as game aspects are stuff such as ai, damage model, campaigns, atc etc. -

To be honest this is probably indicative of the lack of game beneath the sim, if you see what I mean. Once you get beyond all the simulation elements; is there a game worth playing underneath? Personally I'm not sure there is and I think is why I drop in and out of this sim, although this would require much more thought to discuss in-depth. Luckily the sim elements are so good (and deep) it gets away with it! Edit: Anyway I guess what I meant to say was that there have been several good WW2 sims fairly recently with much more gamification, and possibly this contrast will be useful in improving the game underneath the sim. -
Just wanted to say keep it up! If you haven't played flight sims much before then this will be a steep, but worthwhile, learning curve, so take it one step at a time and enjoy learning each bit e.g. how to take off, how to land etc. Personally I think the training missions are one of the buggiest bits of this sim so I don't use them at all. Oh, if you are still learning with the SU-25T, I would recommend another module instead if the SU25T does not have a clickable cockpit which is such a brilliant feature in VR. You can get the modules, especially the older ones like the KA-50 and A-10 incredibly cheaply and they are just as good as the newer ones. Also, some of the simpler ones like F-86F might be worth considering. You could try searching for Chucks guides: They are brilliant if they cover the aircraft you are learning. Good luck! This community is great and has put up with many dumb questions from me so don't hesitate to ask anything.

Beyond DCS 2.5, this is top of my wishlist. I wonder if improving the AI, and especially revising the damage model, will be given priority when the Normandy map comes out? It seems to me that if WW2 is to become a popular theatre then these will come to be seen as bigger problems than at the moment... It's bad enough now but can you imagine trying to shoot down AI with the Spitfires .303s? Now imagine it for an entire campaign! :-) -
perfect; thanks!

Is there a timeline showing the comparative service dates of all the flyable aircraft in DCS? Ideally one that also covers non-flyables and vehicles ingame. I can't find one but this would be very useful for mission builders so assume there is one somewhere? Cheers
-
I like all the helos, but would recommend the KA-50: -Easiest to fly (especially if you don't have rudder pedals) -The most content. You can probably find 5-8 campaigns for that helo; more than the others put together I bet.

I've changed my antivirus anyway, but will also run DCS as admin and see if that helps.

Sometimes (maybe a quarter of the time) missions will fail to load. This varies from a training mission in 1.5 to an instant action or campaign mission in 2.0, and with various aircraft. The main symptom is it never happens with the first mission played, but often missions after that fail. It just sits on the loading screen, there is a lot of SSD access, and the task manager says DCS is using ~35% cpu and System is using 50% cpu. All other programs become locked up as well. When i stop the DCS process they end/drop to nothing. My system is: i5 2500k 4.3ghz 16GB ram gtx 1080 Oculus Rift 1TB SSD Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I'm looking for Warthog profiles for all modules. I've found Homefries pack (http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3858400/DCS_World_TARGET_profile_for_T#Post3858400) and will give them a try. Any other profiles sets people would recommend? Ideally I'm looking for something that doesn't require me to change a profile in target every time I change modules. Thanks

What is the current state of VR in DCS; was your headset worth buying?
Jamesp1 replied to Jamesp1's topic in Virtual Reality
I can barely see anything. I obviously have a big conker! Still I suppose it stops light leaking in -
Nope, I'm on the standalone version too. I assume this is the same for everyone; is anyone NOT seeing this?

Jamesp1 replied to Jamesp1's topic in Virtual Reality
Just to follow this up: I bought the rift, another 8gb of ram and a GTX 1080. It was absolutely worth it and DCS is fantastic in VR. As everyone else has said I feel like I'm sat in the plane! I'm also getting far better performance than I'd expected: Am running almost all settings on high with 2.0 supersampling and getting 45fps over Las Vegas. Other games also seem great: Racing games are excellent, Elite Dangerous is also very immersive and Luckys Tale is well worth playing. -
Firstly, the Rift is fantastic in DCS. My four year-old has no interest in flight sims but begged for more chances to sit in the helicopter. I have a i5 2500k @ 4.6Ghz and a GTX 1080 which runs the sim with ease: With almost all settings to high and 2.0 supersampling I'm getting 45fps flying down by the casinos in the KA-50. MUCH better performance than I was expecting! Anyway, the sim seems to really like sticking to 45fps. I've seen it less and I've seen it at 60 - 90fps, but it really seems to love that 45fps. Even if I put all settings to low I still mostly get 45fps... I assume this is ATW at work and is normal?

So, I'm sure it's been asked before but I can't find anything recent. How does this module look in terms of missing features/bugs/flight model? Also, content: What missions/campaign are available now vs the final product? Thanks!

Current PC: GPU: HIS 6950 Fan 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Dual Mini DisplayPort HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache (overclocked to 4.6Ghz with a better cooler) Memory: Kingston 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz HyperX XMP Motherboard: Asus P8P67 PRO REV 3.1 Socket 1155 8 Channel Audio ATX HDD: slow-ass 2TB HDD Case: CM Storm Enforcer Case with Coolermaster 650W GX PSU Monitor: AOC e2795Vh TFT LCD 27" HDMI Monitor with Speakers My thoughts: This PC is 5 years old so I was expecting to buy an entirely new PC, but it seems the 2500k CPU is still not bettered significantly! If that chip should be replaced at all then that should probably wait for next year when the next gen chips come out. In turn that means the motherboard and memory don't have to be replaced. So, the GPU seems to be the only item that replacing will give significant framerate boost in DCS. That definitely should be replaced with a GTX 1080. Other components of concern are: 1. Memory: 16gb would be better for Prepar3d (and maybe for DCS), and you can buy 2400Mhz memory now. Will leave alone for now though. 2. HDD: it might be worth considering a 1TB SSD since I'll probably stick a fresh Windows install on it anyway. 3. Maybe worth getting a 4k monitor for other games since I'd have the GPU to drive it. In summary: I think I should get a GTX 1080, 512GB - 1TB SSD and a 4k monitor. Do you agree or disagree? I find it odd to only do a partial upgrade after 5 years ;-)
