If you want to see what Hell looks like when Satan himself is hung over as after drinking for three weeks straight AND has a bad case of the runs, come back to the Crewchief with a jet that you've hit 10G in deliberately. You will know pain, damnation and hellfire worse than anything you've ever experienced before you're handed over to the Maint' boss for more buttchewing, and then to your fellow pilots that might just give you a new callsign for it IF you still get to fly. Besides that, the Viper doesn't have a G-limiter. The FLCS will try to limit your maximum AOA depending on your speed and which CAT you're in, but it's up to the FSA (FlightStick Actuator), aka pilot, to not deliberately break the jet and subject himself to the fun effects of causing potentially catastrophic structural damage to the jet he/she is currently occupying. The ACES-II seat can do much, but it can't save you from stupid every time.

JFS is not run in flight, and wouldn't help you even if it could. It's job is to spool up the main engine to the point where ignition is possible (about 20% RPM), and that's where it's job is done. The EPU, on the other hand, will fire up when the generator goes offline or both HYD A and HYD B drops below 1000psi in pressure. That will give you enough power to run the HYD A hydraulics (which includes primary flightcontrols, speedbrakes and the fuel flow proportioner) for give or take 10-15 minutes until the EPU-fuel (Hydrazine) runs out. When THAT happens, you'd better have either landed, or get ready to punch out. Or die on impact with the ground, which is always an option. If you're operating only on the EPU, you should still be able to lower the landing-gear through nitrogen-pressure. You won't have much in terms of wheelbrakes, however, and no NWS. The wheelbrakes are fed through stored hydraulic pressure from the JFS-accumulators, but once that's gone you've either stopped OK, lowered the hook to take the BAK-12 arrestor-barrier, or get to choose between staying with the jet as it goes off the runway or seeing what a zero-altitude ejection is like.

Few things in life is perfect, but the feeling of finally, after 15 year of waiting, firing up the sim and finding myself in a Viper-pit was pretty damn close to perfect. Even in the unfinished state the Viper is currently in. Is it perfect? Nope, not even by a long shot. But I can see how it'll become in the future, and I'll enjoy the trip there as well and as much as getting there.

Should be the same on the A/B's as on the C's. The brakes will come off at about 80% RPM automatically, because at that point you're getting close to the point where the engine-power starts to overcome the friction of the tires. So either the brakes come off, or you'll slide with locked wheels and most likely damage the MLG. It seems to work as designed in DCS, although I don't trust the instruments all that well yet. Don't think that the engine would be too happy with the nozzle being only 40% open at full AB, for example. -

Tested this yesterday myself. You need to switch to CCRP and remember to Uncage and have the TGP set as SOI. At that point you should be able to move the pod through the RDR-keys. -

Which is hilarious, because you'd better either wear a helmet when you DO flip power to Batt and then hit the Parking-brake switch, or at least brace an arm on something. Seen a few nasty gashes across the forehead from people who forgot that the aircraft will slam to a stop, but inertia will keep your body going. And the dash is harder than your head by far. -

I love what the Viper promises. Spooling up the engine for the first time and taking her up for the first time for a simple freeflight-hop with the rest of the Arctic Tigers on releaseday was like a dream come true, and the promise of what's to come is tantalizing and something I've been waiting for during the last 15 or so years. Is it finished? Absolutely not. To be honest, right now it's a nice bird to do freeflights in, but as it stands right now, the incomplete features means that it's hard to apply it correctly (Looking at you, damagemodel and IFF). That being said, I'd daresay that I found it worth my $64 on the promise of what it can (and hopefully will) become further down the road. $64, while not an insignificant amount of money, is less than a semi-good meal while dining out. If I couldn't hoof that I probably should find other hobbys and re-evaluate what I did with my life in general, but that's besides the point. I bought the Viper at a discount knowing full well that it wasn't even close to being finished. I did so out of two reasons: 1: I'm a cheap bastard in general 2: I love the Viper and the promise of what's shown at EA made it worth it to me. Looking forward to the next patches and hope we'll see some large strides in them in the coming weeks.

Back in 2000. I think it only flew a couple of times that year during the summer, and was stored in Hangar 2 most of the time. It's also known as a CRV-7.

We had a specially painted SUU-20 pod up in Bodø while I was serving as an F16-groundie here in Norway. I've asked some of those I know that still serve about pictures of it so that I hopefully can get someone to make a skin for it. Was painted as a dragon, basically.

It's also possible to pull 9G with a three-bagged Viper. It's equally as silly, as you WILL break the jet. So what's the point?

Using three Mavs on the LAU-88 IS unrealistic, because it's a loadout that can and often will damage a jet, which isn't something a commander willingly does. I'm pretty damn sure that you won't find a weapons-crew that will load that config, you won't find a Crewchief that'll sign the AFTO-form with that loadout and you won't find a pilot that willingly takes that onto an operational sortie.

I don't care for punishment. I do care for realism and following procedures. You might not and that's all on you. Even a politician understands to not piss on the electric fence after he gets shocked a few times. Just like those that triple-load Mavs on the -88's would learn that firing the innermost Mav had a large chance of damaging the aircraft and risking uncontrollability.

If you exceed a certain AOA, you can scrape both the speedbrakes and the nozzle along the ground. Don't think you'll hit the ventrals, though. -

I actually DO understand. The few times I've bothered to go onto an open server online, I've always gotten shot right down by people on my own team. After that happened a few times, and no attempt at communication for those servers were found, I stopped bothering and set up my own. My point is that it's FAR better right now to release the Viper without IFF and then implement it right quick after EA-launch than to further postpone it while IFF is implemented. To be honest, I expect some of the bugs with the Viper to be hilarious, and a non-functional IFF should, in my opinion, take second seat to those. For now. -

Would it be better to have IFF/AIFF 8-10+ months after EA? Be thankful that you at least get SOMETHING close to the EA-launch. Besides, as others have said, effin' communicate. I understand that many love the airquake-servers although you're better off playing World of Warplanes or War Thunder at that stage, but if you up your game a smidge and start playing on servers that has comms introduced (Teamspeak/SRS or even Discord), blue-on-blue won't be that much of a problem. Of course, some people would rather do airquake, which is fine by me. -
You should try sitting in a real Viper-cockpit with the canopy closed once. You'll VERY quickly see that while it does offer superior visibility in comparison to jets of yesteryear, you'll also see that you get both a tremendous amount of reflections and that the canopy has more scratches than a gaggle of kittens will give you when you play with them. I can understand the issue, though.

My comment wasn't aimed at you or anyone else specifically, it's more of a general observation. My point is that IF people learned to search for things instead of just taking the easy way out every time, they might learn a few things. Asking a question is not wrong. But asking a question because you're too lazy to look for the answer for yourself first, however, is. In my opinion, anyway. I have some hands-on knowledge about the Vipers, yes. Or, more specifically, of the Block 5, 10 and 15 OCU/MLU's. This doesn't make me special in any way, shape or form like you rightly said, but it does seem that my ability to use a search-function does, however. -

I've always boggled at the fact that people can't seem to understand that if you put two Vipers, even when you take two from the same Block, you can have two VASTLY different aircraft in terms of capabilities just because of the variants in the different software-versions of the two jets...
