The OH58 looks nice but at the moment, I hold back my wallet because I do not know how ED will handle 3rd party modules in the future. Still waiting for official announcements if it is worth spending money in non-ED modules. I already got UH1, AH64 and KA50. the OH58 would look good between them but it is not an ED module.
-
Once I were told that since the dispute with VEAO Simulations and the T.1A, ED changed contracts with further developments of 3rd Party Modules so even when the developer disappears, ED could still be able to patch the module with further DCS updates or even keep developing it further if they want. I agree, the Harrier is good as it is at the moment. I never have problems while flying and it is a great work by RB. It is my most used module. I have high hopes for Harrier II Plus one day so I kindly say: #payrazbam (or find another solution to keep working with them) EDIT: @Pipe AJ is called Alpha Juliet as nickname and he was the Community Manager for the Harrier. He Quit his position to do something else he wanted. As far as official information by razbam, he did not quit because of the dispute wit ED. He just stayed some more time when the dispute started, to help out his old team. See more in "Harrier-announcements" on the razbam discord.

For example, the Weapon station button Nr.7 that is the only one that does not visually push in when clicked and no one ever cared? Once I had serious struggles with that button while coding my DCS-Bios for my selfmade cockpit. Tried to fix that button on hardwareside for several hours until I recognised that I never had a problem and all was working but DCS just has no visual push in for that one Button

No, not like this. Casual players are not interested to search the whole Forum to suddenly find a thread that is some kind of official by ED. The Thead is from 14.November? I just found out today and I am normally browsing in this forum from time to time. what I mean is the website Newsletter or the beta changelogs that everyone gets automatically in every discord server that has a DCS topic. people that gave up to fix the problem with unsafe methods lost interest in forum threads and wait for solution, mentioned in changelogs. with the last open beta patch, my friend just told me “hmm, no performance bug fix in that changelog? I not even try that new version then. I have other things to do.”

two of my friends have similar problems but with worse computer hardware (but everything worked fine with 2.8.XX and we played alot). At the moment it is unplayable for them and they frustrated as they are stoped playing the game what was a big pushback for myself (because i do not like to fly without friends) I have a whole homade flightchair with VR and upgraded my GPU to 4090 just to get buttersmooth VR Gameplay just in DCS (all other games do not care if i have 4090 or way lower) and now i have to play alone and that makes everything lonely and frustrating. Therefor I am looking things up in the Forum since 2.9 release and all the suggestions require deep changes in Windows processes while playing without hope to help. We all are not interested in trying many workarounds that may, may-not work and it is annoying to install software that i do not know and that dos things that I cannot control in hope the Hardware wont brake. I always had the impression, that EDs developer work very hard on problems to fix them ASAP. Since this problem came from 2.9 update, in my opinion this has to be fixed by ED instead of 3rd party software or deleting Windows processes. A game just works when you can play it after installing without further changes in Windows. >1 sec shuttering with specs like i7-11700KF and RTX4060TI are not okay for a game that age. At the moment I am missing the part where ED tells people in the news that there are some unknown shuttering issues where the devs are working on. I think there are people out there wondering if they are the only ones experience this issue. @BIGNEWY maybe you could announce on your Website if the Devs are working on that or not.

Maybe they plan some major updates on av8 after the f15 is some kind of finish. I bought mine with 50% off in 2021. if they announce big changes on an old module, they better find some players that have not bought them already.

First: No. Second: Why would you want to do that? The x56 Base is one of the worse. I would favor to get a x56 Stick on a warthog base than putting a warthog stick on a x56 base. Better not even use the x56 at all. if you can, change stick and base together and get yourself one of the better stuff.

Is the Saitek X56 really that bad?
Gorn_GER replied to Vampyr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You guys know what the Best part of buying a X56 is? It is the Part where you buy one, play with it for about a year, realize the many major issues with production quality* and than you can lend it to a friend because you got to a point where it is not worth playing it while having the ability to buy a better one instead. So my friend has no money because he is student and now we can fly together. He does not care about all that problems with the X56 because he can use it for free. But anyway, if I had the possibility to go back in time, I would stop myself from Buying the X56 or the Saitek rudder pedals. It may be unfair to compare the X56 with my VKB Gunfighter Ultimate, Virpil Throttle and Thrustmaster TPR Rudder because of the price distance between it but there are possibilities to construct cheaper equipment by a company like Logitech that could work as good as the expensive stuff without the big problems the X56 has. I am wondering why logitech still sells that stuff. > In Europe they want about 220€ on amazon for that garbage and you can get a Warthog for 449€. I see the problem here. The quality of the Warthog is not as good as it was worth double the price. But the biggest downsides of the X56 are worth, not even trying it. If people have no money, go and buy T.Flight HOTAS X for 60€. I had that thing for years, playing Operation Flashpoint and ArmA with it. Playing F-15C with HOTAS X in DCS could be 60€+7,49$ fun, too. But trying to play F-15E for 220€+63.99$ with the X56 could be a nightmare at some point. If I have 63,99$ for F-15E, I can get myself some 449€ Warthog * Quality issues: - Self moving throttle (could not hold its own position because of bad constructed brake) - mini joysticks wandering around because of bad centering. - one mini joystick keep sticking in position (not recentering) after moving it all way to the left - bad Joystick centering because of silly spring construction, causing the plane to always turn (when programming a big deadzone, you will have problems with low sensitivity while adjusting your flight) - really unnecessary big Stick-Base. It is as big as the throttle base but has no real use for that. You cannot get the stick between your legs when you want to use it as center stick and there are no official extensions for the stick. Also, the base is a bit light for keeping in position when using it on your desk and if you got both (throttle and stick) on your desk, you may not have any more space for stuff like keyboard. -
But wasn't GB using the GR.1(A) and GR.3 in the Falklands war? As i can see this version never got an AA Radar. Just with the knowledge of that war, Royal Airforce began to put Radars into Harriers for Sea Harrier FA.2 in 1988, some years after the Falkland war?

I cannot agree with your thoughts on Meta Quest, because the headsets do as good with Meta as they did with Oculus (maybe even better. Today Hand tracking and app support are on a whole new level and I tell you by starting my VR life with Oculus DK2), just with the fact that there now is a big investor who pushes the success of VR with its own interests and this is good for the whole world of VR. But that is an other topic, quest 3 is the best you can buy for good money (because everything above is 200%-500% of the Q3 price) and is way better than G2 (my own experience given) in case of GPU: I used 3090 and now 4090. The 40th generation gives a huge performance boost, due to new driver Technologie that could not reached by 20th and 30th. So everything below 40XX is burned money because 3080 and 3090 is too expensive if you do not buy old used cards by people in the internet and everything below 3080 is not good for DCS (I tried 2070 and 3070 myself and it was terrible bad compared to what 3090+ gave me). Since the 4070 is nearly the raw performance of 3080 and has lower price, I would go with that or higher.
-
What cable issue? you mean the fact that there was some kind of problem with AMD Grafic cards, so everyone got a new cable for free that works fine? my G2 never had any problems with the cable and works like on day one
-
The 10700k is not the problem. I got the same one in standard configuration. I had the 3090 and upgraded it to 4090 not because it ran bad, more or less Luxus problems. Yes, the performance is way better with 4090 but It would be far to say that the 3090 did not work. With DLSS it should work fine. i would point out the headset because you need to much supersampling to compensate the low pixeldensity. back than I Switched from Quest1 to quest 2 (lend by a friend to test) and instantly had better performance because of the higher native resolution. As a result, I switched to HP Reverb G2 and again the performance per resolution/clarity rises. so either you get yourself a cheap G2 die to people selling them with the upcoming Q3 and keep your Q2 for good old VR only games that need good controllertracking (the G2 is terrible in controller tracking) or you directly switch to the Q3 and get the best out of ~600€ you can get at the moment. since I have the G2 and Q3, I would prefer the Q3 but at the moment, the prices of used but good G2 headsets should drop now. Maybe ask someone here in the Q3 Threads if he wants to sell his old one. a new CPU will bring the least performance and will cost the most (price/performance) because you need a new socket and may want to upgrade RAM, too. new GPU will be the most expensive but won’t bring quality of life due to the low resolution per eye on Quest 2
-
Because I do not think that your question was directly answered: Don’t worry! I came from G2 and got to Q3. I had problems first that got fixed by setting it up correctly with the Help of Dogmanbird and others here in the Thead and now the visual are almost clear and not just a sweetspot but most of the FOV is nearly as shape as the tiny sweetspot on the G2. Most of MFD visual clearness got lost by DLSS since 2.9 and with this better performance I have to lean in a little on both devices to not have the ghosting but it is just the ghosting that annoys, otherwise it would be clear. I never tested in F16 just in F/A18 and AV8B. Since you sit closer to the MFDs in F16 you may have even better view in Q3 because the FOV is wider and you not have to turn your head. I am all in all surprised by the Q3, I won’t go back to my G2. I just keep the G2 in case my girlfriend wants to play beatsaber in the same time, I want to play DCS because the G2 still is a good headset. Just not as good as the new Q3. Behind my meta account there is an extra Facebook account linked and I think this link is needed. But since this account is separate and I have no contacts or information in there, it is the same as if you need a PICO/Steam/Pimax account

Running the drivers did it for me, Thank you very much. The colors nook the same as with the G2 and now the old headset will be obsolet. There is only one point that is annoying. While i was able to launch DCS while my G2 was on my desk, I now have to put the Q3 on all the time. Otherwise the screen goes off and the game does not like that

So, my Quest 3 arrived and I have some what mixed feelings at the moment. The Lenses are fantastic and Quest standalone games work perfect (a little too less Batterie playtime but okay) Now it comes to DCS and if I did nothing wrong with my Link setup, i am very disappointed with Quest 3 and DCS. While the HP Reverb G2 has a way too small sweetspot, but looks overall very shape and beautiful when you look at it, the quest3+link has washed out colors (everything seems a bit gray) and there is edge flimmering that i do not have with HP Reverb G2. I very hope that I have wrong settings and this will all be better when I fix it but at the moment, I favor to use my HP Reverb G2.

The Point in DLSS for me is, that smooth>sharp most of the Times. Tried out MSAA, DLAA and DLSS in some settings and find out, earlyer with MSAA (i7 10700k, RTX 4090, HP Reverb G2) everything already looked sharp and i had a smooth picture but in a dogfight it was a little bit like the enemy plane is not passing by but warping some meters very fast. This warping made it difficult for my Eyes/Brain to follow the enemy. But with DLSS, they look somewhat like a shooting star with a blurry tail but they are there, all the time, very smooth passing by. My Brain has no problem with that. The only real problem are the MFDs. If i push the Zoom button, everything is clear but from my normal seat position, everything is a bit too blurry and moving parts like enemy blips look like shooting stars, too. That has to be fixed somehow.

reported Can't run bin-mt/dcs.exe after OpenBeta Server Update
Gorn_GER replied to hoggles's topic in Installation Problems
I have the same problem with my server. In the "installation problem" topics, there was a workaround with using the "\DCS World OpenBeta Server\bin\DCS.exe" --server --norender Idk. at the moment if that works -
Me personal, blocked the VR Flight Sim Guy in my Youtube Home, because in my opinion, he talks alot bull<profanity> in his videos. I do not know how his videos are today but back than, he overhyped everything and after that gave silly critic. Often his Video Titles sounds like he got the one and only solution for a problem you have and the context of the video itself is meaningless bla bla bla about things that do not work, nor exist or sometimes has nothing to do with the title. If I need help, I never watch his videos. Does not say, he never showed something that worked but as german i would use a saying like: "Even a blind chicken sometimes finds a grain" Look at this Thumbnail: "THE QUEST 3 HAS A.. SERIOUS PROBLEM!". This sounds like overall the produkt is bad like if a newspaper would say "soon we all die" just to say in the article that the clima change is still as bad as we already know.

[FIXED] HP Reverb G2 gone weird 180°. -> UNINSTALL NECKSAVER
Gorn_GER replied to BrassEm's topic in Virtual Reality
The use of a software/mod, that manipulates the display orientation ingame, indipendend from your head orientation, would be nice to know in your first post. I never used VRNeckSafer but if you had told me, I would have pointed that out in my first comment. -

Gorn_GER replied to BrassEm's topic in Virtual Reality
backup and delete your settings in the Saved Games folder, so these settings will be renewed? Maybe you killed something in the settings. another idea would depend on how you use your HP Reverb in DCS. Do you use SteamVR or Native OpenXR Support? -
[FIXED] HP Reverb G2 gone weird 180°. -> UNINSTALL NECKSAVER
Gorn_GER replied to BrassEm's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes, try that. This helped every time for me. Somehow, the device tries to remember your room wrong and wiggles around when you have a new bottle on the desk infront of you. Sometimes the tracking got shuttering ingame. As soon as i cleared Environment Data in the Settings of WMR software, this was all gone. Often i also klicked on "Raumgrenzen einrichten"(idk. how the english name it is for the room space), it all worked well for that day. It became a procedure for me to do this every time, I start the PC and want to play DCS. -
I never had a Quest Pro, so I cannot estimate how it looks for you atm. I used a Quest 2 that I had for a while by a friend of mine, before I bought the Reverb G2 and even though the Resolution per eye was way under the Reverb, it did not feel "that bad" but ofcause the sweetspot on Reverb G2 looked way more clear than Q2 The sellpoint for the G2 compared to Q2 was more or less the performance. The higher native resolution and direct connection to the displays without compressing data had an overall better performance earlyer with my RTX 2070. But since I use 4090 now, I should have bought the Q2 instead How is the overall clarity with the Pancake-lenses compared to this tiny sweetspot on Reverb G2 with facecover? I always thought about getting rid of the Facecover (mostly because of the fog on the lenses due to sweat) how does your "thin pu padding" look like and how to get one (in case the Reverb is the better DCS VR-device)?

Since there was a small gap to get one on amazon with delivery in the next days, I ordered a Quest 3, too. Atm. I have a Reverb G2 v1, too and I will report my experience on both headsets, too. In any case, I am lucky to be an owner of the Quest 3. I will finnaly be able to play normal VR games, too. If DCS is better on the Reverb G2v1, I will keep it for that. If the Quest3 is better, I may sell my old ReverbG2. But nevertheless I will report my results to you, maybe they are not the same as what other players get. Some years ago, there were many good and bad reviews about the Quest 1 and I was lucky to listen more on the good news because the Quest 1 was the best I could do earlyer, to get into VR.
-
So, I Wrote most of the comments and can I get the conclusion that if I want to update from HP-Reverb G2V1, if I have the money, i better buy Q-Pro that Q3? even though The Q-Pro has lower resolution? i just ask because I am very annoyed by the low FOV and the small sweetspot but the challange in DCS is to even see enemys while in fight for a far distance and the sharp sweetspot of the HP Reverb did a great job if you got the enemy in this spot but overall overview is bad when you always have to turn your head instead of using the turnability of the eyes

Playing on 60Hz? I prefer some shutter in 90Hz over the pain of using 60Hz. I had a Quest 1 myself and tried a Q2 for a month that was lend by a friend. After that testing i bought my G2. 90Hz feels good when not shuttering, 72Hz was okay, too. But with 60Hz I always had a feeling of sickness all the time. Therefor I am lucky, that 72Hz will be back with Q3 Since I always had fun Playing VR games on my Q1 and G2 is very acceptable with DCS I will buy the Q3 as soon as i have the money for it because even though it might not make DCS better than G2 but if you ever tried to play normal VR Games with G2, you find out that it is no fun atall with this bad Controller Tracking. Therefor I hope Q3 will bring VR Gaming back to me so DCS is not the only VR game i can play anymore. (Sideinformation: I sold my Q1 long time ago to better finance my G2 and that was a big mistake. Both headsets had a salespoint and I lost more overall playabillity by not buying Q2 than I got with the better performance in DCS-G2. Performance was a bit better with G2 but I lost all other VR game Fun)
