  1. I have a 2008 Mac Pro running 2.6 Xeon dual quad cores and a 512k ATI 4850. At medium settings with HDR BS2 runs fine. Frames dip down into the low 20s with skhval but that's to be expected. I do feel that A10 runs a little faster but I can't be certain that this isn't due to different type of flying.
  2. Wags, Very nice job on the revised GOW campaign! It's been so long since I've played the original that I can't claim to be able to specify what's different. But it feels new all over again like re-reading a favorite novel from high school. It is also nice to know that all the old sniper skills are still there.
  3. I've noticed that the wind direction that I set in the Editor equates to the direction to in-game, as opposed to the conventional direction from. Interestingly, Rise of Flight (another Russian simulator) does the same thing. Is this convention standard in Russian aviation?
  4. I really want to try this out as I think it could be fun. I will be hosting the DCS CTF mission this afternoon and evening (Nov 9). I don't have a ded server so there might be issues but there no harm in trying.
  5. As someone who has flown sims since the eightees let me say that this is the normal course of things. You play one for awhile then give it up for an old love. Then you come back to it later and its all fun and new again. Don't ever erase anything unless it was pure garbage from day one.
  6. I ...got ...my ...Betty back Betty back! Thanks Nate and Team!
  7. +1 Fingers crossed.
  8. I've got a pretty low end system. BS2 runs well enough but there's no question that A10 was a bit faster. One thing I noticed with A10 is that buildings rendered by "growing out of the ground" as I approached. With BS2 I haven't seen that effect yet. Buildings, even relatively distant ones, are rendered fully. In both games I have Scenes set at High and Vis Distance at Medium. My specs, btw, are similar to Thinkr above.
  9. Thanks! I knew i could depend on you, Nate. Will post later. Logs.rar
  10. I'm going to get a well deserved slap for a very unhelpful CTD post but this is the best I can do. 20 minutes into the mission my wingman was commanded to rejoin formation. I was down low with the skhval off getting a very good frame-rate. Wingman called "Ejec..." but was interupted by a long pause of about 3 seconds then the CTD. I looked for a crashlog but could not find one.
  11. I got rid of all files above 300kb and cannot tell the difference visually. But it's also hard to say that it's boosted performance.
  12. Thanks for the reply Jim. I'm really enjoying the Ka50 again.
  13. This is a bug in Black Shark 2 but unless I really have misunderstood how DCS works it should be true of A10 as well. I made a small mission with all the "landable" naval vessels moving 30 knots into a wind of about 2 m/s. My Ka50 drifted so quickly during startup on the Kuznetsov that I had to taxi to the middle of the deck before starting the 2nd engine. Somehow my wingman managed to stay in his position. Flying to the other boats I noticed the same thing. If I shutdown completely with the brake set I would drift off the boat within a minute or two. Planes do the same thing. I tried 2 F/A-18s from the Carl Vinson and two Su33s from the Kuz. All four would eventually drift. However, unlike my helicopter they would remain suspended in air even though, after 10-15 minutes, they were several hundered meters from the carrier. Static vehicles on the Kuz seem to remain fixed.
  14. The easiest way to think the Flight Director is as the Autopilot Disconnect. Except for Hover Hold, I find the autopilot frustrating. After 4 years of flying I do know how to use it but I just don't like it. The real pilot of a real Kamov can easily feel and react to those 1-20% AP inputs and quickly decide which inputs he agrees with and which inputs he would rather countermand with cyclic pressure or by holding the trimmer. Even with FFB that sort of pilot-plane interface just isn't there for us. To me its better to just skip the middle-man.
  15. I know we shouldn't reward bad behavior but I screwed up slightly. While attempting to mess with the bigger tree files I accidentally renamed on of the EDM tree files and don't know the original name. It's the only tree worth 466kb. If someone could post the name I would appreciate it.
  16. Oh. Well that's never really bothered me because I use a relatively weak FFB force and trim often. (And I generally don't use the AP as (except for AH, it hurts my flying more than it helps).
  17. I've noticed that nobody is on the MP browser. (Could it be my settings?) Well anyway I started my own server just for testing and noticed a mission I haven't seen before--a 4x4 Capture the Flag mission. Was this on BS1 as well? I humbly ask one of the servers to consider hosting this mission at least until the compatability patch as it looks like it could be fun. Sort of a BF3 for us "sophisticated" sim types.:pilotfly:
  18. Didn't Galileo have something to say about this?
  19. I recently put together an Align TRex 250 RC helicopter. Assembling one of these things is one of the most pleasant experiences a helicopter fan will ever have, btw. Anyway, not only does it build nicely but it flies very nicely. I just figured that small RC helicopters with a 4000 RPM head-speed would be immune to VRS. Wrong! It happens all the time. You can actually hear the sound of the rotors change as they take big bites out of the turbulent downwash. Fortunately they are so overpowered that no cyclic is needed, just a hefty amount of pitch. Its possible that DCS exagerates the violence of VRS but I am comfortable that they got it right with the ease at which one enters the state.
  20. I make a markpoint when I position for takeoff. That way I know exactly where the end of the runway is. It beats searching for the ILS freq.
  21. ^^^^ I feel like I'm stalking you Taipan. First I reply to your thread at Rise of Flight and now find you here. Don't worry, I don't have your home address.....yet.
  22. This may be old news but I have never noticed it. My wingy RTB'd damaged. When I parked next to him I noticed that all of his access panels were openned as if MX were inventorying the damage.
  23. It looks better (cockpit shadows). It sounds better. It runs smoothly even on my low end 4850. Overall, vastly better. Oh, and campaigns have been corrected too.
