  1. I had the 5K XR - OLED version, and whereas it was excellent with wide FoV and great colours, the SDE and resolution did bother me. I upgraded to the 8K X and honestly all the boxes were ticked. Obviously the higher resolution means it does impact FPS at the same settings, and it's colours aren't as rich as the OLED screens in the XR (I now use Open XR which improves FPS and use the filters to get colour depth pretty much the same - saturation & contrast up, Exposure down a bit) but with even wider FoV, no SDE, resolution pretty much perfect, I can honestly say it is ideal. I was planning on buying the 12K but when I get my 4090, and when multi-core and vulkan come along if I can turn pixel density / anti-aliasing up more (pixel density currently 1.0, MFAA & SSAA both at half), and turn the last couple of settings to max (I'm almost there now, only really missing ambient occlusion and I have forest details down low, grass off) then I'm actually thinking how much better does it need to be? OK the 12K will have even wider FoV but out of a pilot's helmet they can't even see that wide IRL, and ok resolution will be even higher - but it is spot on as it is.....I wonder if it is worth putting that extra pressure on performance for gains I don't feel the need for. I get between 35 (MP on supercarrier, Syria low down etc) & 75 FPS (pretty much any time I am up any altitude and is the max on the version of headset I have) with full FoV and no foveated rendering and I can honestly say it is an amazing experience. As long as you have the system to power it, IMHO you won't be disappointed in the 8K X. Make sure and get the fibre optical cable to maximise throughput.
  2. No in the Leap Motion viewer they are perfect. I've seen other Pimax users report the same. It clearly looks like DCS is expecting the tracker on top of the headset and there is no way to adjust it. Not WMR, Open XR or Steam VR.
  3. 2D of course isn't as taxing as 2 images in 3D, however I don't necessarily agree quality always, and will always, be substandard. Performance will always be faster in 2D but in my experience the quality of what I'm seeing in VR is honestly not significantly worse, even on today's hardware. It does depend on the quality of the headset but with my setup I am running most graphics features maxed out and the rest high, including SSLR. I get decent FPS (50-75) - but of course in 2D I can get 120+. But that isn't absolutely necessary and bear in mind the FoV I have can't be replicated on a monitor. Even multiple monitors. I flew in 2D TrackIR until 2019 and intend no condescension towards 2D players but for me now, if it isn't in VR then it isn't flying. And if you can turn all the eye-candy up with good resolution then I don't feel I am compromising at all.
  4. Thank you! This would be a great benefit for me, and I'm sure other Pimax owners. I'm loving DCS more and more (since Su-27 Flanker) and every improvement you guys deliver. Keep up the good work.
  5. 55 in F18. I tried to get the stick size looking as close to mine as possible. And for humans standing on the apron looking as realistic size as possible.
  6. I use the Pimax 8K X and the hands are high like it expects the tracker at the top of the headset, but on the Pimax it attaches to the bottom. Is there any way of adjusting this please? I've had the hand tracking module for a while now and it works fine but is not usable in DCS due to my hands appearing so high.
  7. This problem was really bad at first when the clouds were released, but honestly now I really don't notice any issues. They seem much better. I do run at Ultra on a Pimax 8K X but tbh the performance is pretty good - unless I crank AA or PD up too high. As BN said, it is all about balance with current hardware and where DCS is right now. I'm looking forward to when it is even better of course. All in good time.
  8. Dude no disrespect but I can think of hundreds of other things that are a better use of ED's time than adding a white puff behind your cockpit (in the F16, F15 etc anyway) when detaching. BTW there isn't even one in the 2nd detachment in this video you shared.
  9. Repeating my original post in VR. So I just got my Leap Motion hand tracking working with a new Pitool version from Pimax. I'm using the Pimax 8K X and their Hand Tracking Module which is Leap Motion. Although a little janky, it works pretty well, my issue is however in DCS the hands placement is much higher than my real hands. In the Leap Motion visualiser it is accurate. In DCS it is high. I think it is because DCS expects the tracker on top of the headset, however the Pimax connects to the bottom, and finding a way of fixing to the top and running a cable around the headset is going to be problematic to say the least. Question is, is there any way of adjusting this in DCS? Literally centering the hand tracking higher or lower, whichever way works, would easily solve the problem. DCS only catering for a single position is not ideal. Or would it be possible to implement this? Many thanks ED for all your hard work!

  11. Agree with MadKreator. We are very lucky to have DCS as such an in depth simulation of a pretty wide range of aircraft and theatres. Especially in tough times economically, politically etc. It really is a luxury and without DCS there would be nothing to compare. I am mostly desperate for the VR performance improvements from Vulkan / multi-thread, as on my Pimax 8K X it is really pushing things. I can however certainly get it to run plenty well enough for it to be an amazing experience. But improving on that so I can turn the remaining graphics settings up full with even smoother framerate is of course an ideal situation, so this update for me is the biggest. That said, ED trying to cover everything everyone demands of them is a huge amount of work, and simply not possible with the resources and funding from such a niche product market. I think they do a great job of keeping things coming - modules, fixes, improvements etc, and keeping us pretty well updated, whilst not shooting themselves in the foot by making promises they might not be able to keep, then suffering the ire of those disgruntled customers who were banking on that particular feature. It's the nature of software development. We saw dramatic improvements with 2.7 and the clouds are a good example of something ED kept quiet then dropped on us pretty much without notice (save for the sneaky background clouds in Wags' vids). So I feel they are doing a great job and doing their very best to serve all their customers. And the Apache is awesome. So it is hard to grudge the work that goes into such things and be annoyed it has not instead gone into something else I might personally want more. Thanks ED and I patiently but very eagerly await the core engine updates for better VR performance!
  12. What Ainuke said. I use Simshaker Jetpad and you are able to tailor the level of feedback from each telemetry output in the Simshaker software. Works amazingly well and flying without it you really notice its absence. You can clearly feel the position and type of activity from different parts of the seat. Gear raising and lowering you feel the clunk whrrrr clunk of the front and rear wheels locking into place from the front and rear of the seat respectively. You feel the probe up front, you feel the hook at the back. Burners on your back. Drop a bomb from the left wing and you feel the clunk as it leaves the pylon under your left leg. With stall, speed shudders, g-force etc you can turn and keep it right on the edge by feel alone, rather than having to look at your G, AOA or speed. There is no doubting whether or not your airbrake is out, whether you are on afterburner, whether your wheels are down. You can feel the flaps move. I tuned the levels of all the separate actions to my taste and for example have taking damage, cat launch, hitting the ground/deck, wire trapping, wheel blocking all set to max, and when they happen it feels pretty violent. Firing the gun is a blast as it shakes the fillings loose. I know folks that have the bass shakers and although the Simshaker software does a decent job of converting to sound vibrations, it can't compare to the very specific feedback you get from the Jetpad / Jetseat. So the haptic feedback exists very well already, you just need the hardware to output it. I saw the Brunner FFB stick base which looks like the only really serious FFB option, but it is very expensive, and from what I've seen its main benefit is proper trim positioning. The actual FFB is a bit limited apparently. Happy to find out if this is incorrect? And if there are any other products out there? I guess your other option is a motion control setup for actual movement......but that is another ballgame of cost, complexity and physical logistics!
  13. It is worth bearing in mind this is a simulator, which it does very well, better than anything else. I know it's referred to as a game, but a game infers it is 'just' for fun and generally has progression towards an end goal. Whereas a simulation mimics the systems and procedures of a function. Which is really what DCS is, and its fun is in playing with the functions it simulates. I agree single player can become repetitive and boring, and creating new missions of your own doesn't offer much surprise. I would recommend multiplayer to help with this. General online can give different 'game' type environments where it is about scores with or against humans. Plus there is a really broad range of aircraft to experience too in DCS so learning a new airframe is always another thing to get into. Your other option is a squadron, which will give you whatever level of realism versus game depending on how they operate. There are many to choose from. This makes best use of the simulation in DCS and allows you to utilise its features in the way you want to, with humans to fly with. Also, it makes formation flying, communications and procedures so much more engaging. All of which are a huge part of being a military pilot. Also, as far as Vulkan goes, and multi-thread, to me, using VR (Pimax 8K X), it will make a huge difference to the experience. Allowing greater detail and framerates, so giving a more realistic and smoother experience. Being patient is sometimes hard, but I remind myself of the amazing products ED give us, without which I would have nothing even close as they are the only ones doing this kind of thing at all. And the Apache is awesome.
