Bobby , I flew with your dad a number of times in that aircraft! He told me about you two flying cross country forever inverted in it on the way to or from Oshkosh! I was just looking him up a week ago to make contact with him again and found out he had passed. What an amazing pilot , aviation lost a guy with hands and feet of gold! I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss. Please reach out to me via private message I'd like to chat with you

A few questions about AWACS and heading
Check6 replied to Alkaline's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
BNS130 you are mixing a few different things there, Geometry, ASpect and Weapons Condition. Cold Aspect means the Threat has his back to you. Hot (Which is always assumed) he is beak pointed at you. Cold as a weapons state means either the Master Arm is off or no ordnance will be employed. "Thug 61 , off Cold, North." The opposite would be an aircraft being cleared hot by a ground agency. And the aircraft calling "Thug61 in HOT , west" Geometry being hot is REALLY, REALLY bad. We are taught from day one to keep the intercept geometry colder rather than hotter. On a Stern or cutoff intercept a hot intercept means my flight path will cross the threats nose. That's a great way to get turned into hair, teeth, and eyeballs in the improper alignment! Hope it helps, Check6, Rolex -
A few questions about AWACS and heading
Check6 replied to Alkaline's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
The problem is that the Bullseye is not modeled is not modeled as it is in real aircraft. In real life I can see in the corner of the display where the aircraft is in relation to bull. I do need to explain why we use a bullseye. It is so the enemy can't hear our comms and get "reverse GCI." So let's say someone breaks into my house in the dark and my wife yells "the bad guy is 20 feet south of you " he now knows I'm 20 feet north of him! Fights On! However if we decided that the bullseye is the lamp on the desk in the den , she can yell "he's 20 south of the bull". I know right where the bad guy is , but he has no clue where I am. "Good GCI is Good, No GCI is bad , Bad GCI is treason!" Rolex -
Hi Slayer , I am waiting for my Thermaltake Level 10 GT and want to buy a Corsair H100. Was that a difficult install? Thanks!

Millibars We use HG not millibars as a rule , but some places where foreign crews are training (Red Flag etc) we will issue both . Our standard call on initial contact would be Runway Wind Altimeter Report. So "Hog 11, Runway 27, Wind 240 at 6, Altimeter 2993 , Report 4 mile initial" The gear check is only required by military controllers not civilian controllers to military aircraft. So, as an example I'm FAA now and we control Charleston AFB , we do not say check wheels down.

SIDS and STARS are followed and the climb rates are up to the crews, but if they are less than AIM standard ATC must be told. Once the crews reach the MOA or Range thay are working, they are "Cleared Tactical" and work the mission via the assistance of other Assets (AWACS, JSTARS, GCI etc) The speed rules that apply to civilian aircraft don't really apply to fighters as there is a caveat in the AIM and the ATC regs that states crews may flight higher speeds if needed for mission accomplishment to include training.

Are you speaking in reference to Mach Tuck , the speed depends on the airframe.

Actually you can hear and more importantly feel the gear transition in every thing I've ever flown.

They must be using Mil engineers! A never has a clue what B did! I have never flown anything in my 13 years in the Air Force that made sense, never apples to apples. Never fly the "A" model of anything! Rolex -

AI wingman calls "mud spike" yet my RWR is quiet
Check6 replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
IRL it was common for only one guy to be locked and a guy a few feet away not to be. If the threat has a good res cell breakout and targets one aircraft over another for whatever reason and then goes Single Target Track to wep employ it makes sense that only he would be carrying a spike. -
I just wanted say Thanks to everyone making checklists , missions etc. This is why PC gaming rocks, the community. I own a PS3 and Xbox 360 but there is no sense of community there. Here gamers, sim buffs in particular, always help each other out. People take time to write articles, post videos, make files and other things that make this a great place to lose track of so many hours!!!!! Thanks to all of you! Rolex

I had that issue and it was the Man Rng/ Uncage axis messing it up. I just went into A-10 and removed the double entry. Hope that helps if none of the other offerred solutions worked.

For the curious: The "What Does it Do in Real Life?" List
Check6 replied to Stretch's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
On AWACS we could actually tell the difference between a Mil Emergency Squawk and a Civ one. The reason the "MIC" mode would be used is if the aircraft lost it's transmitter. The pilot would acknowledge atc instructions by ident. So for example , "Blade 21, no reply recieved if you hear me , Ident". Controller sees ident "Blade 21 Ident observed, turn right heading 2-4-0 descend and maintain 3,000 , acknowledge by ident." Instead of having to hit an ident button the pilot can stay HOTAS and still let ATC know what he is doing. It essentailly bypasses the bad radio. -
Data cartridge, what's the real thing(tm) like?
Check6 replied to Shake3000's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
DTC It is about the size of a small hard drive in the F-15 and F-16 , we simply did all our flight planning in the squadron. Our DTCs are not like flashcards they are quite a big bigger and have a handle on the face. Hard to find a good picture but this gives you an idea, not sure about the DTC in the HOG, I only ever dealt with A models. http://www.skilledsystems.com/f16_DTU.php -
Nice I like the first picture with the girl in the peace sign hoodie touching the HOG.

I was at a few of those Flags as an AWACS WD. That site is a little confused about some of the things they say, for example misunderstanding Callsigns or 3-1 Brevity term usage, i would be happy to answer questions that I can on here in regard to AWACS - Fighter ops or Red Flag in general.

Do western RWRs display relative threat elevation?

I have used the ALR 56 extensively and it did not.
