Oh yes, I remember in MP (ver. 1.0,1.02 & 1.1) - the F15`s radar would stop scanning once in a while. Never seen this in single player. Never encountered it in ver. 1.11 (MP & SP). Don`t know about 1.12a. I guess it`s time to fire up some AI F14s...

It is correct in that screen too. Draw a line from your position on the radar scope to the target`s 12 - 6 line. Notice the angle between these 2 lines. Now, look at the target`s "ASPECT" on the HUD - only slightly off, if any. Quick question about the radar symbology on this screenshot. What the hell is MEM at the bottom left of the scope and couple of other details that I`m not familiar with. Were you using a different difficulty level for radar when you took this shot? Now, speaking about radar - I never noticed an "unexplained" lock drop in any version. The target was always notching, split-Sing or flying crazy. Sometimes it seems too easy to spoof any radar in Lockon. That`s about it. I do have a problem with AMMRAM`s performance though. Way too erratic!

I think you have to make sure that CTL is pressed before hitting "a". Once in a while it might slip in when hitting it repeteatedly.

Advantages of the AIM7 Sparrow?
169th_Crusty replied to Animalmother's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
He wasn`t manouvering hard at all. His head-on aspect never changed more then 15,20 deg. and he wasn`t split-S`ing. He didn`t have a jammer and I could track his altitude constantly. Yes, I know about R-max. I started my flight at 40k/50nm but fired the first 120 well within the range. Flanker never turned more then 20deg and at the the time I fired my last missile he started slightly descending - I was getting ready to go to guns and had visual on him. If he was flying like I always do (like a madman - turning and mowing grass) I could give him a benefit of a doubt, but this... Well, Crusty out -

I never realised how correct this statement is untill about 3 hrs ago when I was doing some single player testing against AI Flankers (on excellent). I`ve heard all the complaints before but I haven`t flown that much recently haven`t really seen how dorked up Slammer`s performance was until today. I`m gonna spare you the details. It simply confirms the reports I`ve been reading from many. Kula66, you were absolutely right - straight and level Flanker at 7k` avoided all of my 120`s. I started at 40k/50nm and fired 8 missiles as I was getting closer and lower. Last 3 slammers fired at 5nm, co-altitude, never broke lock - missed! I got smoked with ET! ...I just had to vent it! - feel better now;) -
HOTAS Cougar throttle sliders??

How about this: Make sure there is no line refering to either ANT or RNG if you want to use them as axis (in your .tmj file) BTW, put the trim where it`s supposed to be - on the stick ;) I use antena elev. for... antena elev. and the ranging knob for radar scan volume horizontal slew (oops - no realism there ;) ANT as axis (nothing in .tmj) RNG as characters (programmed in tmj and tmm) -
Hey Striker Good post, but you would`ve created a lot less turmoil if just simply described (briefly and in layman terms) how IFF and its subsystems work. How it does and part of it doesn`t relate to radar... And then, there`s that darn data link that we don`t have... oh, well

I haven`t tested my 1.2 yet. Just did couple of flights, so I`m not going to speculate too much... BTW, I edited my last post with reference to your picture. It is correct in my opinion :)

Hey Kula66, I was just looking at some F16 docs and the pictures showing a bugged target in TWS and the corelated HUD symbology and at 20NM there was no difference between the aspect indication on the HUD and the radar display on MFD... so, I guess it might be a little bit off. As the the target gets very close, the b-scope effect would be more pronouced. Crap! another edit! The situation in the F16 pics was slightly different. The F16`s nose was pointing almost directly at the target. In which case target`s "aspect" is almost the same as his heading. In your pic the target`s aspect (imagine looking at him directly and seeing a line out of his nose) is different from his track on the radar scope. If you turned directly at him they should match. So, in my view - it is correct.

Were you co-altitude? Was the target manouvering?
-
Exactly! :) ... although at this range it doesn`t quite apply. As to APG63, I`m not familiar with it but it seems like aggressive manouvering around the "notch" will throw it off really easy. Probably not that easy in RL, hehe. Even the older radars had automatic "coasting" modes that would sometimes help to reaquire when going through a doppler notch and return to the previous mode that was used, like STT

Although this thread is not about ARH missiles, but... since mentioned it; I noticed one thing with IA set on excellent, they will do a "perfect notch" every time at exactly the right time :)... I spent 8 slammers before wacking an AI Flanker armed with ERs -
What you see on the HUD is not target`s course, it`s his aspect (his heading with relation to you)... although it does seem to be just a wee bit off... maybe not :)

1.12 as well
-
If I remember correctly this problem appeared in ver. 1.0 It was fixed in 1.02 (at least the TEWS part)
-
What problem was that? stutter/cpu affinity? Do you still asign affinity (or use procaff)?

Back at everyone who celebrates it! -
Same here, where the heck did you find that cjlive? The only "4" I found was the driver version :/

The radar scan volume slew (horizontal part) never worked (for me at least) in the F15, regardless wether I used the keyboard or assigned it to an axis.

Greek 737 unofficial crash analysis

Certainly in the future the systems will change. Who knows how? Hopefully the Pilot will still be in the picture (as an observer/backup ;)) -

Anybody heard a term PIC (pilot in command)? Oh, someone mentioned mentioned Hornet`s ACLS. I don`t think a system modification to allow the CATTC (boat`s air traffic) to take over the controll of a fighter in trouble will be adopted anytime soon. Hehe, I just imagined Strike Controll calling some lonely Bug: "All right, we`re bringing you in!!!" That`ll be the day... -

Same song applies to: Why were these "pilots" hired and/or so poorly trained by this "airline". ...but let`s wait for more details, if ever.
