  1. Well, An-26 is a turboprop - the propeller would certaily be a "factor" in this.
  2. SwingKid, is there a description in that book how they rig this barricade? When they raise the stanchions and stretch the nylon webbing - what is used for absorbing energy? Is it 4 wire (bottom of the webbing hooked to it) being raised by the webbing when the plane hits and engaging the gear struts?
  3. In US jets there are 2 hyd systems with 4 circuits... Yes, when you pull emergency land. gear handle, it mechanically opens the valve from hydro accumulators (APU) (This pressure is needed to open the gear doors and release the uplock mechanism) and the gear drops. (aided by downlock actuators)
  4. Fantastic news, thanks.
  5. Olgerd, I wouldn`t worry about the inner workings of a specific INS model. We could probably live without things like initial line-up or updates, etc. What I would love to have is 4 basic navigation modes on F15's HSI, ADI and HUD. These modes are: (1) NAV (data mostly from INS) (2)TACAN - data from radio nav like TACAN/VORTAC (you can just limit these to airbases, increasing each beacon`s range to around 200km) (3)NAV/ILS - approach based on INS and radio nav (4)TACAN/ILS - approach based only on radio nav Any basic F15 manual has to contain info on these modes. Anybody familiar with civilian aviation could easily operate these modes w/o any training. BTW. These modes work the same way on F16's (all blocks) and they do work in Falcon4 :) although some symbology is slightly different.
  6. Well, if the tailhook got shot off :)/ripped off and you are in blue water ops - I guess the barricade is the best option.
  7. I'm not sure about 33 but in the Hornet (and other US, tailhook equipped a/c) the hook is dropped by releasing the latch mechanism. The downward pressure comes from the nitrogen charged tank (it`s pre-charged). To raise it up though, you need hydro pressure.
  8. 90% of the way there :) ... well, perhaps slightly less. Oh, since you mentioned HUD heading tape in your previous post - another annoying thing is the steering bug. Let's say your current heading is 360, your selected waypoint is 325. The bug should be on the left side of the tape, right? Well, sometimes it will point you to the right... If you follow it, it'll take you all the way around to get to 325. So, for NAV I use HSI all the time. (in the NAV mode :D)
  9. Well, it should be a little more then 5 sec. I would think... 20 or 30 seconds. Then again, what the heck do I know :) BTW, early Hornets had about 30 sec. inverted (0 G) before they had to go upright.
  10. Just a little footnote to this diagram. It came from the "Introduction to Airborne Radar" - a must read. (well, it is a required reading in many places...)
  11. LOL, Lada ( E-version ) - even if it`s a tall tale - it`s funny:)
  12. I`m sure that this flight package included a video...
  13. What else could you possibly want on a vacation trip?! Nice shots.
  14. So, forgetting the "locked target" info, I can correctly assume that there`s no way to point some "overlay captain`s bars" to a specific target on a radar display and getting the bullseye ref (without hecking into .exe)... or is there? Then again... locked target info wouldn`t be that bad (in spite of all the jamming probs.)
  15. Thanks for the effort Fox. Oh, quick question... (from a computer illiterate:)): Can this "export.lua" file be tweeked or is it just "on/off" deal? (I know, someone answered this already - just making sure my thick scull got it) and... there is no way for the client to know how the server is set up, is there? Other then checking whether something works or not. So, it`s been basically a "scout`s honor" system, so far.
  16. IIRC, IR missile launches can be detected (light & audible warning) but I`m not sure about reliability of these detectors. They`ve been around for a while. But not DIRCM
  17. Just a typo correction for bflagg: he meant 700'/min (VVI)
  18. I`ll try it, thanks
  19. I did try the verctor exp. (zoom) for a while but I didn`t like the default zoom center - too close - and I wasn`t able to change it. Do you know how to "zoom" the default out a bit, BTW? What would really do it for me is being able to shift my head left and right to look around this friggin canopy frame! Oh, I didn`t notice any FPS drop
  20. My swapfile is on a second drive, in a partition of its own - I don`t need to shut down my VM to defrag the drive #1 (where Lockon is installed), do I? ...also, I have a "minor" problem with disconnecting from some servers. When I click on Exit button (to go back to HL) - everything freezes and I have to close Lockon via Task Manager. There are exceptions: never happens on VVS 504`s server (with 20 people playing ) At first I thought it was my firewall... but then why only on some servers? Anybody has any ideas?
  21. hehe - Jeez, I get sick just looking at that pic (thread starter). Yes, there`s a limit out there... ...would be nice though to have a moderately pitching and heaving deck on occasion for some extra challange.
  22. Yes, it would be nice if the bullseye was implemented into the sim and the position of the cursor on the MFD would be linked to the bullseye`s readout at the bottom of the screen, but... for now I`d be happy to see the NAV system working properly. Especially HSI giving correct indications regardless of modes you`re in. Then, at least we could get the bullseye/waypoint position to our own a/c and roughly estimate radar contact`s position without switching to "NAV" mode and losing your SA.
  23. LOL, I can deal with that as long as I can keep the closer end of that paper away from me. (unless I was the one that unrolled it ;)
