If you're not playing in VR, AMD cards make more sense right now. More VRAM and better performance for the same price. For what's being talked about, the 4060 will most likely have 8gb VRAM and 128bit memory bandwidth, at an expensive price. So not a good deal at all.

missing info Very low FPS in SC vicinity after recent patch.
diego999 replied to Amarok_73's topic in Bugs and Problems
I confirm this. Huge stuttering and fps loss on carrier deck. FPS overlay shows "simulation" going over 20 when it was just my plane and the carrier in the entire map. Something's not right. -
This is just a general question about multithreading.
diego999 replied to RackMonkey's topic in DCS 2.9
There is a current bug with multithreading where one of the cores goes to 100% load and stays there all the time (even when looking at the main menu) and you get that message. Throwing new hardware at DCS won't solve this problem as in most cases it's not your CPU's fault. -
The higher the setting the more VRAM usage. I can't honestly tell higher from medium textures in my Quest 2. I guess with a better set the difference should be visible.

Throwing new hardware at the game won't solve the poor performance, especially in VR. You have a great rig, no reason to upgrade it for now. I'd wait for Vulkan.

Nice! Will try your mod when I get home.

VR Motion sickness GPU upgrade
diego999 replied to Chad Vader's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Have you tried lowering DCS settings? Your machine should be able to pull at least 45 real fps (90 with motion reprojection). That's how I play with my pc which is less capable than yours. 72fps (36 real) is barely tolerable in the Quest 2 for me. 90/45 is much better and less likely to induce motion sickness. No wonder you're suffering throw up fest with just 32. -
Vulkan is not here yet. It will come (hopefully) at some point this year.

Don't forget to consider the memory bus on the 4070ti is on the low end of the spectrum: 192 bits. 3090 has double of that: 384bits. For comparison, the 3070 has 256. If this is a limiting factor on DCS VR, I don't know. But I think it's something to have in mind.

Maybe this will help.

Looks amazing. Thank you for sharing it.

World of tanks. Played for over a decade and I'm just simply burned out.

There is a "VR zoom" option in the UI Layer section of the controls.

Deka Simulations announces the DCS: J-8II for DCS World!
diego999 replied to Mike_Romeo's topic in DCS: J-8II
It is a welcome addition, to balance things (somewhat). Instead of yet another western aircraft. -
For me it's the opposite, I find the Hornet systems and workflow easier. But it's just a matter of preference really, both are fantastic modules. In my case, I chose the Hornet because: - naval ops - Harpoon and SLAM-ER - bigger displays (I play in vr mostly)

DCS Steam vs DCS itself account question
diego999 replied to huey_gunner's topic in Guides & Tutorials
That's my case. Steam prices are considerable cheaper than ED store. I still play standalone though, I buy the modules on Steam DCS and then transfer the licenses to standalone DCS. There's that option too. -

Doesn't matter for VR. It only affects what you see in your monitor.

Forgot to add, in Oculus App set resolution slider all the way to the right (that's Quest 2 native resolution) and refresh rate to 72hz. You can control resolution in oculus app, oculus tray tool, steam VR and DCS itself. It's good practice to tweak just one of these setting and leave the others at 100% or 1.0 as they add on top of each other and it can get complicated. Note that Steam VR measures this differently, with a per-eye number, so if you set super sampling/pixel density to 1.2 in Oculus Tray Tool/DCS is the same as setting to 144% in Steam VR (1.2*1.2=1.44). Another reason not to use Steam VR at all.

I'm not an expert but I can show you what works for me. I don't use Steam VR, you're just adding another thing in the middle that's not really neccesary. These are my settings, almost all on the low side of the spectrum with a 2060. With your GPU you should be able to crank them much higher. Settings that kill your fps are, in my experience, MSAA and supersampling most of the time. Open XR and Oculus debug tool are not neccesary, what I use is Oculus Tray Tool, it can change most of the same settings. With all these I get between 36-72 fps (with reprojection activated) as long as I'm not above Dubai in the Persian Gulf map. At high altitude in simple missions it goes above 72 sometimes. I play with an usb cable. Intel 10400F, 32GB RAM, 2060.
