  1. comment from Valve on pricing of the Steam Frame: The Steam Frame is real, and Valve want it to be the last VR headset you'll ever buy | Rock Paper Shotgun So it will probably come in at a price somewhere between the Quest 3 and the Index.
  2. Yes, specs on paper (eye resolution, wireless, battery life) seem underwhelming, but reading the reviews, there are a lot of interesting details, like eye tracking and the “foveated streaming” feature. It looks like a lot of thought went into this. It will be interesting to see how well it actually works in flight sims.
  3. "CPU bound" and "GPU bound" are a bit misleading since ED has never really explained what it meant. I have a Ryzen 5800x3D, no longer top of the line, but still decent CPU. I am always "CPU bound", whether 2D or VR. If "CPU bound" meant that the CPU is a bottleneck, you would expect that upgrading the GPU would have a marginal effect, but I recently upgraded from a 3070ti to a 5070ti and my FPS in VR increased by about 50% which shows that the CPU is not a bottleneck. I think "CPU bound" means that DCS can fully utilize the CPU based on current settings and hardware and is preferable to "GPU bound". My current thinking is to ignore the warning in VR and just concentrate on tweaking the graphic settings to consistently achieve the target fps (in my case 90 mhz with a G2) with a frametime of 10 ms or less.
  4. I noticed this in a IA mission I modified to use the F14A early (PG F14A BVR), the F14A early AI wingman will not sweep its wings out no matter the speed and keeps them fully tucked in. The animation works fine on the player AC and it works correctly with F14A late and F14B AI wingman.
  5. Good explanation here. ANVIL is code Heatblur used to program the F-4 some of which may eventually be retrofitted into the F-14.
  6. So spent some time playing with the early A, always nice to get a « new » Tomcat to play with. Would be nice if it included some missions, but easy enough modifying existing missions. Flight performance is basically the same as the « late » A as you would expect, but dogfighting with older weapons and an antique RWR is more challenging and fun. I also like the retro look it gives to the cockpit. Hard to argue and nitpick when you get a free plane.
  7. Hi, have not checked new missions, but I have been modifying IA missions to play with the plane and the F14A early is in the dropdown menu for ACs.
  8. So finally got around to trying this and the new OASIS driver is nothing short of revolutionary! it was easy to install, instructions are clear and straightforward. Performance in terms of FPS and smoothness are similar but image clarity is way up since I can use the default Steam VR resolution. updated from 23h2 to 25h2 with no issues. @mbucchia you sir are a genius.
  9. I upgraded from CH to the Winwing Orion 2 almost 3 years ago. It is a great piece of kit, solid, well built, feels nice, very precise and easy to use/ program in DCS. The F-18 throttle grip works perfectly for the F14 and of course, F18, which are my main rides.
  10. I am guessing players are still on the fence and waiting to see what the performance with the Oasis driver is before switching. I am still using my G2 with Win 11 23h2. much thanks to M.Bucchia though, nice to see I can keep using my G2 for a few more years.
  11. My G2 still works perfectly with Windows 11 23H2. As long as MS continues to update 23 and provide security features and your G2 works, there is no need to upgrade.
  12. I have been working more on this aspect. Close in dogfighting has always been my weak point. Fighting against F5Es, going vertical is a good bet. It is almost impossible to out turn a F5E, but if you zoom up with full AB and get an altitude advantage, it is then relatively easy to use the pent up energy to dive down and get on its rear. As others have said, it is very important to stay high and fast in the F14.
  13. Given the nature of fast jet combat in the game, I don't find much of a difference between VR and monitors in spotting. 2 Pixel spotting dots will help since under perfect conditions, the dots will stick out at 20+ miles. What really helps though is knowing where to look and using all your sensors (AWACS, radar, RWR, wingmen, etc.) and visual clues (contrails, engine smoke) to know where to focus your attention.
  14. It is always good practice to get JESTER to re-choose the TACAN station you want just to make sure the correct one is set.
  15. I program CMS all the time on the way to the mission, the Jester menu is easy to navigate and you can setup a program from the options in 10-15 seconds. I usually let Jester handle the chaff (auto) and control the flares manually, works well so far.
