fixed internally BF 109 K-4 Flaps flickering
Toastfrenzy replied to Oreo147's topic in Bugs and Problems
Was just confirming the version shown when I run dcs.exe directly from the bin folder without using the created shortcuts that I normally use, shortcuts that bring up the MT DCS. Yeah, there's additional input that has added additional spurious complexity to this for sure! I understand KISS !! I'm also about to jump in and do some more set up with my new controllers, wish me MT! -

What's the version you see when running from Bin folder DCS.exe? Just loaded direct from the BIn folder myself - same version level without the MT Preview text is shown So I'm running the MT version Yes, just confirmed running the MT version. Never tried in ST. -

Well, ain't that great, if the case. How do I tell when running DCS what version I'm in? I'm not suffering as it is but obv's would prefer MT over ST Hmmmm - found another thread about MT being the default when running from the updater.exe in the BIN folder as the DCS.exe in the Bin-MT folder doesn't update DCS (or didn't). In any case the post confirms that the Bin\DCS.exe runs ST. I'll remove that shortcut now and use either updater.exe or the Bin-MT DCS.exe Not able to get test at moment but will later today. Is there a way when in game to know if ST or MT is being used? -

I thought I was using MT - go figure lol. I'll check, brb. I read on the forum, since 2.9, that MT runs from the normal DCS.exe and no requirement to run from the DCS.exe in bin-mt. The screenshot is from the every day normal DCS.exe The in game screenshot gets placed in the BIN-MT folder too. Multi Thread preview 2.9.2.499940 Ran from the BIN-MT folder too and get the same version bottom right of screen. -

Just getting round to this, sorting out my new Virpil controllers and will hopefully get a track uploaded today if not tomorrow - I'm still seeing the flickering flaps, though it's a different style(?) anomaly than in my previous video. Still flickering though. -
CM3 Flaps Lever / Continuous Clicking Sound for P-51 Flaps
Toastfrenzy replied to Fakum's topic in VIRPIL Controls
For those interested I found a sort of workaround to this P-51 Virpil CM3 throttle flap lever function. Link to the DCS P-51 thread about it -
Flap Lever continuous rapid Clicking sound
Toastfrenzy replied to Fakum's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
@Fakum I've got it to a satisfactory point where I'm ok with it now. As I want to use my new flap lever for flaps lol. Tried lots, many things one of which was mapping to other axis on the CM3 throttle. I mapped to the vertical finger slider with a centre position. The one that sits to the left front of the right hand throttle lever ( I think may have already been noted in the couple of threads I found). Mapped to this axis the P-51 flaps operated incrementally as expected - with the rapid clicking noise in between each flap increment. The noise stopped once the slider vertical axis motion was stopped and also the "normal" click noise could be heard as each increment was met. Both up and down, worked for all 5 flap positions. This is my Zoom axis so haven't left the flaps assigned here. With the "centre" being the only axis difference to the flap lever axis I played around with adding a centre and or detents to the axis in the VPC configuration tool. Worked as the finger slider vertical axis did but getting the detents and or centre numerically positioned, to be of any use with the set flap increments, in the software was a challenge I gave up on - not to say with more work it couldn't be done. I then looked at the DCS Axis tune and the variables on offer there. Been messing with dead zones for my new controllers so just added a 10% dead zone to see what would happen. For some strange reason it puts a detent ( or stop) in the axis. Moving the flap lever down the rapid clicking is heard but the flaps stopped at the 20 -30 degree down position. The normal click is heard and the rapid clicking stops. Moving the flap lever down to 5 fully deployed you hear the rapid clicking as you already know the clicking stops at 0% and 100%. The same on the way back up too. For me this is enough as I only use the flaps to 20 -30 degrees on the downwind leg and only when on finals and I know I can make the threshold do I deploy full flaps. I can put up with the short rapid clicking in between flap positions. If ever I need combat position 1 flaps then I probably have got myself in too deep and they probably wouldn't save me anyway. Better to rate than deploy flaps an old sage once told me. I tried a 20% dead zone and that totally messed with the axis so returned to the 10% dead zone. -
Flap Lever continuous rapid Clicking sound
Toastfrenzy replied to Fakum's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
@Fakum did you get a resolution for this? As getting the same constant clicking noise when using the CM3 flap lever as an axis. Tried most things, even set as a axis to multiple buttons but only works in one direction then. -
DCS World and me....Toastfrenzy

For Christmas I got Virpil!!! Here's a look see in the DCS Virpil thread -
Thanks, makes its easier and very doubtful I'll need Gremlin at all now. Though the buttons I've mapped all ready I've found difficult to remember when wanting to use. Got to un store the old set up and re learn the new buttons. I did forget that I have to repeat a setup for each module too....could be here sometime. I also like to make the same button activate the same control for all modules where possible - I only fly Warbirds so not that difficult. Just a lot of back and forth if I can't remember what button does what. Though the difference between my old TM 16000m and my new Warbird stick is light and day, that old TM 16000m alone has been the bane of my flying it seems. Even without the rudder pedals connected, trying out the Warbird stick I was 100% better already when testing it out quickly. Apart from configuring all the buttons I spent a good 5 odd hours setting up my hardware as had to make a few changes. May even have to relocate PC & sim in the future too, as I'm trying to shoehorn it all in a computer cabinet for aesthetics. I didn't have to make any changes to the Warbird D base or warbird grip, set up and used out of the box. I had to adjust, relax the tension on both throttle levers on the CM3 throttle as they were a bit too firm out of the box and moved the desk when I moved them. The Ace pedals required the most adjustment. I had to remove the feet and screw to the base of the cabinet, little room down there. The fitted standard spring I found way to soft and the pendulum (PIO) effect was hard to control. Added the 2nd firmer spring and the feedback was better but still not the feel I was looking for. Swapped the cams to the hard centre pair and with both springs lots better but the resistance is still too low, already PIO'd myself off the runway a couple of times. I've tuned the rudder axis in DCS, added a dead spot and a bit of curve which has helped but I expect I'll tune the rudder further. I did have to take one of the rubber feet off the stops under the left hand rudder foot rest - in the calibration software the left toe brake axis wouldn't settle at zero, 1 or 2% above - bit of a look see and trial and error later. I did take both rubber stops off at first but there was a noise when relaxing the toe brake so tried alternate sides and leaving one off allowed the left toe brake to stop at 0%. Absolutely very impressed with the Virpil Controllers, the build quality has far surpassed anything I've owned before and even my expectations! The response from the Virpil techs when asking questions before buying was very helpful and helped my decision making. I'll add a couple of pics of the Toast Rack HQ so you can see what I have to work with....it's a long story, but I live in a peaceful and harmonious world - for the most part! During the operation Complete and sort of how it is, seems to work ok for its compactness and unobtrusiveness when away - apart from the Be Quiet case on top - that was another Oh thats big when it arrived! I use an S9 phone for head tracking with the Smooth track App along with Opentrack - works great. 4090 with LG Ultragear 4k 32" monitor - even though 4k is still a big disadvantage in DCS and WT the look is worth the pain. Buttkicker Plus - was a dubious purchase and bought ready to return but this is now another must have! An edit on 01-01-2024 - had to raise the keyboard sliding top, by 2cm, to give my knees a bit more clearance
-
As a note, seems Windows only allows 128 buttons - more than enough (I think) for my prop needs. Not really wanting to add additional Gremlin (or similar) complexity just yet.
-
Oh my! What have I done!!! I have all my controllers and have now realised the enormity of configurable buttons I have! On the throttle alone it comes with a lot of buttons and a mode switch with 5 positions - you can use this as a shift press to create more buttons for each mode. Almost glad I didn't get the panel with the landing gear lever, as good as it looked, far too many buttons for my simple prop flying. Even if I did configure them all doubtful I'd remember them all. At the moment I've only had time to sort out the flap lever axis as a button so I have working flaps to the flap lever, wasn't too difficult but more back and forth from DCS to Virpil software getting it to work. Good when it did though! Merlin says Hi!

Thanks, I'll see how I get on with the "standard" springs but do understand the advantages of not having the pedals pendulum AKA PIO

Vertical Rolls In The Spitfire
Toastfrenzy replied to Screamadelica's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Just a question, is it ever advantageous to use cross controls? In your case yes, but is this a sim issue or an effects issue? For instance, I was taught, to stop the nose from rising when you roll left, lead with the left rudder so the adverse effects of roll (yaw), is negated by the rudder input. If any plane you fly the nose raises up and opposite to the direction of roll then you need a bit of lead rudder, in direction of turn to stop. -
Hi, as a possibly future helio jock, I've bought a set of Virpil Ace pedals for my prop flying - what's the advantage this mod brings over the self centre "normal" pedals. I get these will stay at the same rate of input and that they control the tail. Is it easier to not have them self centre when hovering, slow maneuvering? I only fly props at the moment so would there be any disadvantages with this mod over the self centre, other than having to always take off rudder?

Yes, I just omitted of a couple hundred £'s off the final price but I should be fine!

Hmmm, I got to wondering how your deception was discovered?

Houston, we have a problem....... To order this new Virpril gear I had to agree to certain sanctions, not believing for one minute that they would be up held or imposed with such strong will. I have greatly underestimated the Finance department and all I have left of my Virpril delivery is this personalised Christmas greeting. Nice as the well wishes from Virpil are, I'm trying hard not to cry into my Advocaat Snowball. Until the 25th, then maybe I get to open! I just hope the nice lady in finance never discovers the true cost or I'll be missing Christmas for sure!

Vertical Rolls In The Spitfire
Toastfrenzy replied to Screamadelica's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Hmm, I'll see if the same happens, not that I've ever attempted a vertical roll before -
Out for delivery email received!!! I feel that I've not prepared enough for this, it's all coming round too quick! Where are those heady 3, 4, 5 months waits I've been reading about! How I long for those halcyon waits as I'm far removed from "been expecting a package for the longest time" The last time I was this expectant a child popped out of the wife!

First time for while in the BF 109 K-4 and I manage to take off, albeit a bit slow! Depart from Merville Calonne airfield just south of Merville, France. Out of interest there is still an in use airfield at the same location too, I checked the local area on Google maps. Headed NW for the South coast of England, Dover area and then for Hawkinge to hopefully catch the RAF enjoying their 4pm high tea. Had a little mix up heading home mid Channel, then made a fast exit as low on fuel and maybe too far away from home base (55 NM). So headed towards Dunkirk Mardyck (38 NM) airfield, no airfield there now that I could see on Google maps. I probably could've made it home in hindsight. Now I know the distance I'll head home next time. -
