Just when I though I had the X52....
chokko replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
used x52 nonpro for 2.5 years without any issues, very happy with it. being neglected due to warthog though. -
ive had 3 monitors (with dvi/hdmi/dp connections) work fine on 6950, and i'm sure connecting more will work. just not with the 2x yn8088av 8" monitors, as they have vga connectors requiring vga->dvi adaptors. Only one of these adaptors can be used at a time on the 6xxx series. the 6xxx (not just limited to 69xx per my prev post) specification has 1 singlelink dvi and 1 duallink dvi...bit of a gotcha for people unaware not all dvi are equal. i wonder if mfds connected using VGA->DVI->DP, then main monitor to DVI would work

After finding out the hard way that 69xx vid cards don't have 2x dual link DVI (to support 2x MFD screens with vga connectors on vga->dvi adaptors)...i've decided keep that vid card for 'gaming' and build a dedicated 'simming' PC for my newABC cockpit. For the sim pc I will probably go 5870 or 5970 for vid card, as they have 2x Duallink DVI. But the real purpose of this thread is what CPU route to go down. My present gaming+simming machine, is i7-920 D0 @ 4ghz/gtx295coop I have been happy with this, including in DCS A10. i7-920s seem somewhat scarce to come by now in the aussie online shops, and i'm sure newer CPUs are cheaper to run (energy wise) than a base i7 that has been overclocked to buggery. The AMDs are cheap, and seem to overclock nicely. But i read that high overclocked speeds on X6 1090t/1100t etc are achieved when several of the cores are inactive. Therefore are they still suitable for DCS A10, or should i be looking at getting an X4 instead, or coughing up for an i5/newer i7 ? Comments from those with hands-on experience of what you recommend welcome, cheers

is that CH thing the same as the ergodex DX1? they look identical. i was recently looking at the latter to make a UFC but the latter product isnt supported in windows7 (seem to be a few ppl whining about that on forums). the front panel express thing is intriguing. is 225x50mm the real size? these guys had some grey square and round switch caps which would look good for a UFC. not sure how much they charge to have custom labelled http://www.mec.dk/

its a bit unrealistic to expect 600+pages of manual to be crammed into a few training missions with voice (not to mention the game isnt even finished). You'd have to take lots of notes to remember it all, which means you may as well read the manual a little first. go to youtube and find a tutorial with a voice you like

when playing FPS games up until a couple of months ago. Much rather have DVDs/independent download and play when i want to play. Maybe their service is better in some regions compared to others? oh yes, forgot to mention steams habit of borking patches for their customers. the same patches that others who have the game outside of steam have no problems with. feel sorry for those users getting stranded anyway, didnt come here to rant anti-steam infinitum...genuine question: have there been many problems with starforce with A10c so far ? i will do some hunting...

no steam for me thanks - tired of its bloatware sitting in the background and taking ages for it to start, decide if it wants to update... more importantly, when steam decides it cannot connect to its servers so my games are held hostage like i'm the pirater until it sorts itself out if DCS was only available on steam, i wouldn't have bought it happy legal user here

Lots of countries work like this: Customs Duty is calculated on Goods+Delivery. Gst/tax/vat is calculated on CustomsDuty+Goods+Delivery. Add the four together and bingo. Also the exchange rate, for calculating Goods&Delivery costs, they use might be fixed for the month (not what the up-to-the-minute exchange rate is) But 400 is obscene...you might want to check on your govt website that they used correct rates (&classified item correctly). I've had the people dealing with my imported products (Royal Mail) calculating/collecting duty+tax on behalf of Uk customs, and get it totally wrong...eventually got it re-assessed after emailing them an excel spreadsheet and links to their own information.

Hardware related error: Toe brakes not working
chokko replied to effte's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
nope, they work as expected. As i expect. In game 100% I dont jump on/off the pedals flying real aircraft and i treat the saiteks/flight sims with similar respect. Was only in the controller setup i saw the issue when flicking the top of the brakes with my big toes. :) maybe my toebrakes are stiffer, i.e. dont travel as fast? (Would have been nice for saitek to expose something to adjust tension for the toe brakes.) maybe the driver cant handle them moving that fast and isnt raising (enough) events to consumers? And if DCS is relying on those events rather than checking absolute position every x milliseconds... do other games handle your analog toe brake axis' ok? -
Hardware related error: Toe brakes not working
chokko replied to effte's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
just checked my setup: driver = 6.2.2.0, s/w = 6.6.0.38 (though shouldn't need the software if only using saitek rudders) toe brakes applied together continuously bring aircraft to complete halt (at same rate as using W key on keyboard) toe brakes applied together slow aircraft down, and if released before aircraft comes to a halt, the aircraft continues rolling/accelerating per throttle setting toe brakes individually can steer aircraft and dont bring it to halt once released as mentioned in another thread, setup: If you release the toe brakes very roughly (i.e. let them slam up), then sometimes it doesn't go back to the 'off' position (to the right hand side as per pic). If you ride them smoothly, they go on and off perfectly. Short version: it works as expected -
Saitek pedals and toe brake question
chokko replied to ScEBlack1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
what sim are you having problems with? bands using W key work fine for fc2/bs. su25t braking is almost non existent, so try another aircraft if you think its not working. Is the profile active? If so, can u go into notepad and see the W being pressed? dcsA10c, i just mapped the axis' for left and right toe brake (need to be inverted slider), didnt use hte saitek profiler at all. -
yeh i couldnt do this either in beta2. maybe drop the resolution of your monitor prior to starting a10c, such that its the same as the in-game windowed resolution u want to have?

one of the new frigate models is gorgeous too, can it be made flyable ?
