Given that people's 4090 are already being held back by 'slower' CPU's like a 5800X3D, we can already predict with pretty high certainty that his CPU would hold his 5090 back massively. There is no way that the 5090 will be weaker than a 4090.

Reflex 2 has copied from VR. The warping of the frame they do seems to be the same thing that Spacewarp does. So the question is whether this is not already done in VR.

I meant the CPU in the Quest. It clearly takes a lot of resources to decode AV1, since there is a lot of latency, and even then the bit rate is limited to a level far lower than when using H. 264. So it's pretty pointless to use it, if you use a good cable. I just use H.264 at 500 Mbs. You're not making much sense here, since DP doesn't supply power. The Crystal Light has a powered USB cable, so that's effectively the same as using a powered USB cable with the Quest. And there are dedicated PCVR headsets with a USB C port like the Bigscreen Beyond. And the reason why the Quest doesn't have Displayport over USB is not because they have to 'learn a thing or two,' but because they made a conscious decision to cut costs. They are selling a headset that is primarily used for standalone, but it is still good value for PCVR. Yeah, I haven't really had any issues.

The Quest 3 and Crystal Light are the best value headsets for simming right now. I suggest you first take a look at those.

I think that a better headstrap is mandatory for almost everyone. And get a high speed USB-C cable that is long enough. Having a powered USB hub is a good idea to keep the charge up. In general I would advise a powered USB hub because we often connect many peripherals to the PC and then it's very easy for the ports to run out of power, which can cause all kinds of issues with the USB devices. @Grodin Meta sometimes has updates that brick headsets, which is why I turned off automatic updates and wait for the updates to get forced onto the headset. By then, any issues will have been dealt with. Of course, if you get a Crystal Light, then the issue is poor quality control and sometimes rather poor support. A high-speed USB cable works fine for me. You can set a higher bit rate through the debug tool. AV1 puts a high load on the CPU and the bit rate is so limited with Link that it seems better not to use it. I keep charge sufficiently with a powered USB hub. Not sure why you are blaming the Quest for it not keeping charge when you plug it into an USB port that provides relatively little power. Do you expect Meta to come to your house and solder a higher power USB port onto your motherboard? I've never had the infinite restarting thing. I've never had the dirt/water issue either. If that happens with a new headset, get a replacement headset. I never had an issue with the audio either, aside from Windows messing up the audio device. I have a very hard time believing that you have been hit with all these issues. It looks more like you've been collecting all the horror stories for just one product, while conveniently ignoring the very many horror stories about the product you recommend. That is not a fair and balanced way to judge these devices.

The headset is just not done, which is typical for Pimax. They announce the product and open pre-orders and ship the product before it is done. Then you have to hope that there are no hardware bugs and that it's only the software that is not done, and that they mostly fix it before moving on to the next new headset. So if someone cancels the pre-order over this, then in my opinion, they were already delusional about how Pimax operates. Frankly, a ton of people doing pre-orders, early access or such, seem to think that their fealty will make the company reward them, but it's as delusional as a beaten up woman who thinks that the beatings will stop by making sure that they guy is not worried about her leaving him. But the guy can do what he wants if there are no negative consequences. So if you want to use finished products, then only buy the product once the company shows that the product is finished. That way you condition companies to finish the product before selling it.

The Reverb is end of life, so you should start planning a replacement anyway. Even if you go back to Windows 10 or Windows 11 23H2, you will stop getting security fixes for those versions of Windows at the end of the year. It's not safe to run a Windows version that doesn't get security fixes anymore.
-
It has gotten removed from Windows 11 version 24H2. You can use it for a year more by locking the PC down to Windows 11 23H2 or by staying on Windows 10, but both are not advisable for the long term, as Windows 10 will stop getting security fixes at the end of the new year, and the same is true for Windows 11 23H2. So I would upgrade before then. I would upgrade and not wait, as there is no sign of an affordable next gen headset with eye tracking or any other features that matter for PCVR. So you'll just be waiting with no clear end. But note that handtracking on the Quest is very mediocre and most people seem to consider it unusable for DCS. Instead, you can get a SlugMouse or PointCTRL device which actually works. The former requires a Quest since it uses the Quest tracking, while the latter has its own sensor, so it also works with the Pimax Crystal Light. My advice is to pick between the Quest 3 and the Pimax Crystal Light, unless the price is no big deal. But even then it is questionable whether more expensive headsets really add more than their downsides take away again. PS. The Quest 3 has the least issue with a sweet spot. The Pimax has better peak quality, but also some serious quality control issues. So more risk and more potential reward with that one. But it's more likely that you get things right with the Quest 3.

That the card has PCIe 5 doesn't mean that it requires it. In the past we saw about 1% loss of performance for using a PCIe 4 card in a PCIe 3 slot, so it will probably be the same when using a PCIe 5 card in a PCIe 4 slot. Not worth worrying about. That's solved by now. AMD has too little capacity in their driver team to fix VR before launch or in the period after, but eventually they get to it. However, this can easily take 6 months or even longer. So this means that getting a RX 9070 XT shortly after launch is probably a bad idea. So valid choices are IMO: 2nd hand 4080 or 4070 Ti 2nd hand or new 7900 XTX or XT new 5070 Ti or 5080 But we don't have proper benchmarks for the new cards yet, so I would just wait out the month to see the reviews for the new cards. And then the cards should also start flooding onto the 2nd hand market, so you can look at what is on offer there as well.

@scommander2 Nvidia pretends that bigger number = faster, but the reality is that with frame generation, the extra FPS doesn't improve the input lag, like what happens with non-generated FPS increases. And you get artifacts. So in reality, 90 FPS without frame generation is better than 90 FPS with frame generation. But Nvidia likes to pretend that these downsides don't exist, so they can lie to you that a 5070 is as fast as a 4090 (it's not at all). @Lange_666 That's not really a good comparison, since the 4090's were going out of stock at the end, so the remaining stock was very much overpriced. You can expect MSRP + VAT as the lowest price once supply matches up to demand, or if you are able to get the Nvidia model. 2000 dollar to euros plus 20% VAT is 2313 euro. Of course, VAT differs per country. The top model is also in demand by AI people, though, so we may not see supply catch up to demand for a while. You can also wait for the 5080 Ti, as I predict that we'll see a 24 GB 5080 Ti for $1500.

According to Winger's comment on the IL-2 forum, this has been sold.
-
Nvidia lies about the performance compared to the previous generation during every release presentation. So these kinds of statements are just bald faced lies that one should ignore. Anyway, the pricing is roughly what I expected. I predicted that they would keep the 40x0 Super pricing, except for the 5090, and that's pretty close, but they reduced the price of the 5070 and 5070 Ti by $50. Probably in response to a substantial decline in sales now that lots of people have been hit hard in their wallets. The 5070 Ti seems to be a relatively good deal, you get 4 GB more VRAM and a 256 bit bus for $200 more than a 5070, while moving up to the 5080 costs $250 more, for the same gain in cores, but no extra VRAM or bus width. So you get less extra, for more money. Historically, the cut down cards that keep a large bus often punch above their price class, although Nvidia can always choose to choke this off by putting lower clocked VRAM on them. I guess/predict that we will get a Super refresh in a year with 3 GB modules, so then they'll upgrade the 5070 Super to 18 GB. This should really improve the longevity of that price class and how well it works with certain demanding games (cough*DCS*cough), so people interested in that price class may want to wait another year if they don't have to upgrade soon. PS. Jensen thinks that all gamers spend $10k on their gaming rigs, which is not even true for the average flight simmer, let alone the average PC gamer.

Warranty void is not legal in the EU anyway. They may only refuse warranty if you caused the issue that you warranty for, not for removing a sticker.

I've seen it before that people are angry at a company and join a forum (or multiple) just to leave a bad review. Doesn't make it a troll, but these drive-by reviews are often not that useful.

Are large monitors still relevant?

Apparently, IFF has been known to break due to catapult launches. The military typically does a very thorough investigation, but it will take quite some time.

Pretty sure that a video card would provide the most bang for the buck. I'd wait a bit for the new cards to be released early next year, though.

Be sure to give us a review after a while.

That's because your expectation is completely unrealistic. It's simply impossible for the maximum settings of the software to use the exact potential of the hardware, no more, no less, in a world with varying software and hardware. Both DCS and MSFS are not demos that display one fixed scene, but they are a dynamic environment, especially if you factor in all the modules that can vary. What maxes out the hardware in one situation is not going to max it out in different situations. So the only way for the hardware to never be maxed out completely is to always stay under the potential of the hardware. But obviously, that means leaving eye candy and other features below what they can be. Furthermore, it would also mean that game developers would have to wait to innovate until faster hardware is available, but since innovation takes time, this would mean that the hardware would actually remain unused. As I said before, you have the choice to have the software never exceed your hardware, by sticking to old games that lack the more demanding features that are in the newer games. But apparently you don't want that, you want maximum eye candy, but you don't want maximum demand on your hardware. Yeah, that's not how the world works. Ultimately, there is no technical solution for what you want, since it is a fundamentally irrational demand that is at odds with how the world works. The only solution for you is to recognize that your feelings are irrational and any attempt by anyone to cater to those feelings would in fact just make you less happy.
