  1. Hm... That kind of looks like a model-problem, doesn't it? As for that particular MiG, it also looks as if it has seen battle, and you never know how you're gonna look after one of those, eh? ;) If you have any mods that affect your MiG-25-model, deactivate it and see if that helps. Otherwise, just ask, and I'm sure someone can send you a working replacement model.
  2. Crusty: You know of Final Fantasy? Yeah. :P I don't suppose there's a demo in sight here, is there?
  3. ModMan sprung from LOMan's loins. It supports a lot more games than LOMan did. I think LOMan needs a small patch to work with FC, ModMan doesn't - FC is one of the already supported titles. As is F4-BMS, Jane's F/A-18, GTR, Strike-Fighters P1, Battle of Britain ... Get ModMan. It's also more user-friendly.
  4. If it were me, I'd try renaming those files. ... Well, did it work?
  5. Mustang: It's bloody prince Thrakhath, matey! I think that frame's from the intro for Wing Commander 3. THERE's a game with an atmosphere. I love it too! Could do with a bit of horizontal stretch, but that's splitting hairs. To make my post even remotely on-topic... :) I haven't tested these with LOMAC, but I've taken FS2004 for a spin. I got a few more FPS, whee! When it comes to LOMAC, I'm mainly limited by my CPU anyway.
  6. I've noticed that, believe me... I've been everywhere between 2 and 62 FPS on the same graphics-settings in-game. ;) A beefier CPU would help in all those F4-versions... Oh well. I'm a bit wary of overclocking - I don't want to break the gear the first thing I do. Conroe... Betcha half a grand it'll be a pricey *beep*. But if there's a price-drop to come hot on its heels, I can wait a bit. But, it's still that GPU that's critical... Nate Dogg: Check... Man, I'd better not have any significant expenses coming up after this. So, with some new intel on AM2<=>s939, the configuration narrows down to this: ASUS M2N-E nForce 570 (AM2) Athlon64 X2 4000+ 1024 Mb Original PC5300 (DDR2-667) x1 ATI X1900XT 512 Mb PCIe All opposed, may they speak now or forever hold their peace. (Someone say something really nice about the X1600 that the X1900 doesn't have, quick!)
  7. I have a feeling an earlier question of mine was diligently dodged. :P One about campaigns. Obviously you'll have one (or two?) in store for the Ka-50. Any new campaigns for other flyables? Did you do an overhaul of the older campaigns? 1.12-compliant SEAD-missions?
  8. Time to cause my student-economy some pain, I fear... I planned to upgrade during this summer, advent of NWN2, luke-warm-at-best FPS in LOMAC (I'm still bitter about that reportedly un-LODed 40000+ poly F/A-18 ), and a general urge to, you know, remove a couple of dust-layers inside the chassis, and an attempt at acceptable FPS in X3 (it was a Christmas-gift, ok?). Bleh. GUIDE MEEEEEEEE!:helpsmilie: What I'd be going FROM (i.e. components that won't carry over): ASUS P4T-E Pentium 4 2.0A GHz (anyone got a guess what that A is there for?) 512 RDRAM (possibly PC2700, two 256-sticks) Radeon 9600 256 Mb (MIGHT be a Pro-version. MIGHT being a key-word here.) Things to consider: I WON'T use SLI/CrossFire. I WILL use a non-integrated soundcard (X-Fi ExtremeMusic). I CAN'T afford maximum gear (although it's really only the graphics card that will make or break the budget). This includes T3H UB4R just out of ATI's/nVidia's factories and dual-core/multi-CPU setups. I would like to keep power-consumption down (score one for AM2?). Candidates for end-result: MOTHERBOARDS s939 Abit AN8 FATAL1TY*nF4 ASUS ATX A8R-MVPRD480 ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXEnForce FoxConn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS Second and fourth entry are the cheaper ones, Abit AN8 being the most expensive. AM2 ASUS M2N-E nForce 570 All the other AM2-boards were SLI-supercharged and whatnot. An interesting fact is that this mb is between the two cheapest s939-boards in price. CPUs s939 Athlon64 3800+ Venice Athlon64 4000+ San Diego Athlon64 X2 3800+ Manchester AM2 Athlon64 3800+ Athlon64 X2 3800+ Athlon64 X2 4000+ There's no real price-difference here - something fascinating DOWN HERE is that the 4000+ San Diego is cheaper than the 3800+ Venice. I didn't see any Energy Efficient labels at the webshop. RAM PC3200/DDR-400 (for s939) 1024 Mb Original x1 512 Mb Original x2 PC5300/DDR2-667 (for AM2) 1024 Mb Original x1 There are SamsungDIMMs in there, costs slightly more, and there are ECC-DIMMs - wallet go OUCHIE! All listed here are non-ECC, and since it's apparently cheaper, I was hoping to go with only one stick. GRAPHICS CARD (Oh noes!) ATI X1600 Pro 512 Mb PCIe ATI X1900XT 512 Mb PCIe Yup, I'm the #1 ATI-whore. And this is where it gets either interesting or very very painful. The 1600 costs about a third of the 1900 (almost EXACTLY a third, actually). I'm not greatly concerned about performance, although NWN2 is looming... and will be a kick in the teeth and no mistake... I'm after ShaderModel 2 or 3 (so I will not cry), and judging from ATI's product-pages, both seem to be SM3-capable - though obviously the 1900 will do it faster. If I buy the 1900, I won't have a whole lot to spare (no XBox360/PS3 for me this year, that is). Either way, where FPS is a factor, it seems my monitor will be the limiting factor no matter which card I get. It might not be a bad idea to have money to spare for a new one - it is eight years old and has made some strange sounds occasionally over the last two years. I have seen a screen die before, and there are no obvious such signs (yet), so I should manage just nicely. The limit? 1280x1024 60Hz. It's a Compaq MV700. Yup, before HP snagged 'em. Well before that. :D CARRIED-OVER COMPONENTS Soundcard - SB X-Fi ExtremeMusic Monitor Keyboard + Mouse Speakers (a whole lot of 'em) Harddrives Network-card Joystick(s) - duh :joystick: Chassis + PSU ... and everything else I've failed to mention. So, any known problems with some combination there-of? All cool for LOMAC/FC? (I'll wait for a BS-demo before I decide on that.)
  9. Hm... Hadn't that problem been identified, at least? Run a search, in case I'm giving you bad advice. First of all, there's Catalyst 6.5 now (and I keep wondering when 6.6 is due). I thought it was fixed somewhere along the line. A work-around is to put the water on medium or something around there.
  10. Um, the Tornado isn't even supposed to be flyable, right? TELL ME I'VE MISSED SOMETHING!
  11. ... Why the devil do they bring such an ugly bastard as the C-130 to an airshow? (AWESOME pics, btw!)
  12. Hm... That can't be like it would be in the real world. *Thumps ED*
  13. Well, tanks do add to the drag, which means you'll have to use more thrust to keep the same speed as you would without them = higher fuel-consumption. This also means that less internal fuel = lower fuel-consumption. Can you do something similar with a reduced speed? Say 650 km/h?
  14. I don't have a clue as to your problem, but... how the devil did you get ground units to fire ATGMs??? Maybe they are the kind of prissy thingies who has a fit if they're not supposed to reduce their altitude? Mavericks seem to be able to go in any which way they like though, but Vikhrs prefer flying in a straight-ish line (well, in one set general direction, anyway), same with the bigger ones... That leaves cruise-missiles, but I doubt you're wondering about those.
  15. I won't claim to be the expert here, but I seem to recall some programs shouting nasty things at you if you make filenames containing some certain symbols, and I believe brackets (parentheses?) are some of those symbols. Try installing LO in a bracket-free environment and report back.
  16. What are we getting 'in the box' (can't remove those quotes in case of digital distribution, can I? :p), exactly? What I've noticed so far is: One new flyable: Ka-50 (duh) A right snazzy 6DOF cockpit to go with it Not to mention an AFM And a bucket-load of commands to map in Controls Tuned-up graphics, performance-tweaks, blablabla Misc. bugfixes, improvement on this and that Missile AFM (aside from the more realistic trajectories, will this have any effect on their homing abilities?) One Ka-50-campaign One manual ('mere' BS-addendum or the whole thing, from v1.00 onwards?) What have I missed? Will there be TWO Ka-50-campaigns (like there were two for Su-25T in FC)? Any campaign for the other flyables? Training for Ka-50? Updated training-tracks for the others?
  17. thesystem: I believe there's a good deal of editing involved. Well, RELATIVELY good deal of it. At least it was for me. Look for a meinit.xml in that .zip-file, I'm not sure it's Modman-compatible - though I won't swear on it. Back-up your original meinit.xml, put the new one in there, go. Or... you could look at the included readme. :P Among other things, you'll find a link to an XML-editor and instructions on how to use it to get the skins working.
  18. I have an X45, using someone's LOMAC 1.1-profile enabled through that systray-thingy. In there, the TD-box slewing-commands (, . - ö, swedish layout) are mapped to that little orange mouse-knob on the throttle-wossname. Left/right works fine, but the last time I tried (barely an hour ago, in fact), both up and down made the TD-box move downwards! To add insult to injury, I found the cause of the twitching I mentioned earlier in Tech Discussion (or so I hope), and it seems to require deadzone-adjusting (or some manner of greasy stuff). Now, the DZ-adjust-controlpanel was available once, when I mucked about with the drivers (no, you DON'T want to know), and now it's gone! AAAAK! There doesn't seem to be a registry-entry either!
  19. Hm... What about the JAS-39? A tiny little thing like that must be a fluttery bugger. *Digs* Let's see... Well, I'm too lazy at the moment to look up its official homepage, but the swedish military says it can pull up to 9Gs. And going from 1 to 9 can be done in as little as 1.2 seconds. There was also talk about good fuel-economy, though I won't be the one to comment on what that might mean for sustained turn-rates.
  20. Until I upgrade to a sUpr-sn4zzY CPU I'm personally going to hunt down and wound any guy's inner child who design a mission like this and ask me to play it.:horseback
  21. Um, in the IRQ-conflicting PC I don't think I can change all that much... It IS an old-timer, and the spooky thing is that it worked perfectly before, same configuration, same BIOS-settings... The PSU I switched FROM is a noisy chinese half-breed, it says 150W somewhere. You'd think that would be much more prone to frying gear than whatever it is I have now... but it does bear consideration. As for the house's power-stuff, although it was built in 1975, it seems to be well in order. No other PC in the house has had these problems. Then again, few other home-PCs in the district has seen more use... But the first HD to falter started to do so well before the PSU-switch. (If I did a reset via that smaller button on the front I'd sometimes get the message that the drive just wasn't there. A proper restart - power off, wait, power on - put it back in action.) Bad feeling in me tummy. As for the X-45, I opened it yesterday to have a look. I'm not sure I found the correct doohickey to remedy ('elp!), but I blew hard on one of them, and it seemed to take care of FS9 and LO. Well, not that LO is responsive enough to have the problem in the first place, and I haven't flown a risk-zone plane in FS9 yet, but no problems yet. Falcon 4, however, is still only barely playable. I mean landing in particular, in-mission it's not all that problematic.
  22. Prophet: I'm not sure I have the tools for it - two perfectly ordinary flat screwdrivers and a set of six-sided wossnames for adjusting the saddle on my bike - but I'll have to give it a try. SCOTSMAN: I am a bit worried about the motherboard, yes, but I bought a new PSU a while ago, maybe six months or a whole year. At least the CPU and RAM is still running, there's some comfort in that. I assembled this rig 3-4 years ago. (I also have a '98-era machine that's still in running condition, though it has started getting moody - inventing IRQ conflicts between network-card and built-in soundcard, some weird 'protocol 0'-error...)
  23. shamandgg: Ya know, if ED manage to bring Falcon to its knees... I'll be one delighted little bugger. :) 'Cuz then we'd have a SPECTACULAR F-16-sim! But they'd better look over their UI, if that's to happen... And autosave... And FBW...
  24. *Shrug* FS9 doesn't seem to care. Oh well, if it's busted, it's busted. That DOESN'T seem to be the end, though... I've discovered that my X45 sometimes twitch to the left. Not usually the biggest of deals, but if you're flying small stupid planes that snap in two at a mere sneeze, I get somewhat worried... Damn... And my PS2 displays some fascinating behaviour, though I suppose that's disc-related. At least THAT one works pretty much as it should.
  25. Buggrit! It's too big for me! (At the moment I'm limited to 150 Mb - school-computer. I'll remember to bag it the minute I'm home. Or hour. Or the next day, at the latest.)
