  1. Happy happy! Joy joy!
  2. That's definitely a good idea. Though for the Su-25-challenges, maybe you should have a look at JPM's mission-trove? :) Might already be covered - must be hundreds of missions in total, counting the campaigns. And I think smacking a Shilka with a GAU-8 was done in some official training mission. But, yes, I'm all for this. I have no experience whatsoever with the editor, though. :P I suppose the question is whether to wait for FC2.0 or not.
  3. [At daidai's pictures] ... Eff! And that's a screenshot, you say? (Ok, ok, pre-rendered or realtime screenshot, rendered as opposed to RL...)
  4. :book: :huh: :cry::helpsmilie: :music_whistling:
  5. So... For the time being, if developers adhere to the KiSS-principle, AMD 0wnz j00. If physics become the bee's knees, it looks like Nvidia is on top. But in five years, who cares, anyway? :) Any objections?
  6. Heeeeey, this reminds me of Jane's IAF! *Nostalgia all over the place* Keep up the good work, I say.
  7. It was a while since I did that myself, and that computer is about 2000 miles away, but as I recall, it comes packed as a ModMan-created zip-file. (Or as a bunch of 'em in one bigger RAR or 7Z bundle.) I'm fairly sure I used ModMan to install it, and no problem of any sort. It sounds to me like you're having problems with the textures. Compatibility-packs are probably better to leave alone until you're experienced enough to know yourself whether you need them or not. *Waits around for someone who DOES have the readme available.*
  8. I'll certainly agree that it's less trouble with just one monitor... but I admit I'm salivating somewhat. And that's JUST AFTER having dinner!
  9. 'Bump' is the general term for 'making a post to push the topic up among the recently active topics', so it doesn't get buried and forgotten on page 12 or so by the end of the week. I suppose some call it spamming, but it's for a good cause, innit? ;) Just keep working, so it was not in vain.
  10. Hm... I can't say I've tested BS myself, but my AMD X2 6400 serves me right well. :P Good enough FPS in LO to work with (a god-awful drop with some coastal town in view is all), FSX/X-Plane run just fine as long as I'm careful with the bells and whistles... And, BOY, does it process e-mails fast!
  11. Primary rule of dodging SAMs: Don't get shot at. Sorry. :) Valid for every flying object, identified or unidentified.
  12. Well, the good news is that I think the new campaigns are still protected with the same password: eagle. (It's not exactly a government secret...) Just load your campaign, click on a waypoint or something to get to the Map-screen, then declassify the mission/campaign - I think it's Ctrl+D, but it could be Ctrl+Shift+D - and adjust the settings to your liking. In case you haven't noticed yet, though, the dashing new AFM doesn't permit invulnerability. So, you still have the problem of getting shot down. I have to confess I haven't tried the unlimited ammo setting, but I'm not optimistic about your ambition... But, hey, you could always just go back to the closest airfield to land and rearm and head right back out. It's allowed. (A bored man's solution: Declassify, enable crash recovery, empty your stores, then eject, hit Esc and Recover. :) )
  13. Alper: ... D00d! That's the most confident statement I've come across this year! :D Just to be an aggravating old stick-in-the-mud: One problem is that DCS is GREATLY more demanding than any Falcon-variant. (It's also a whole different beast altogether, but when was that ever automatically a bad thing?) But, yes, a high-fidelity F-16 would rock left, right and centre. What would REALLLLLLLLY own the planet to bits would be accurate simulation of the different blocks and upgrades! A/B, C/D 30/32 AND 40/42, E/F, Block 60, A MLU, maybe even the I? (Also, recent F4-mods has a differentiation between CG- and CJ-variants. I suppose it's something to do with what external pods are mounted, or built-in, or whatever...) Incidentally, I voted for the Su-35. SWOOSH!
  14. Mustang: About your issue, did you try experimenting with the AA/AF-settings? When I've seen something like that, it has in about twelve cases out of four been some misaligned texel wossname - look at that setting as well. I think it's in 'All settings', or expert or advanced settings. (Not using ATI at present since my X1900 was declared FUBAR, so I can't look it up...)
  15. Hm... 15 minutes is fine by me... when the aircraft in question has autopilot. 15 minutes' worth of fighting to get the Su-25 (not 25T) to where it should be would frustrate the hell out of me. (Especially as I frequently get shot down by stray bloody Iglas...)
  16. Celebration! I'll work very hard to give myself time to try this!
  17. Hm... Heat is a likely culprit, I'll have to check for that. Any recommendations for checking that through Windows? (I can run FSX windowed, at least, as well as X-Plane.) I haven't been in there much for cleaning... The cooler is of a pretty big variety, though. As for my budget for new vid-card: Preferably not. (But, you know, needs must, and all that. I get a fat tax-return this year...) [Edit] Forgot to add: I tried FC after a reboot (with that snazzy fake-HDR-mod active), and there was no problem there at all. This is just weird... I mean, it's not as if ATI can horrendously and catastrophically botch a driver for a year and a half. And I have been investigating options for new vid-card. My favourite place has a number of cheaper and mightier cards with a 0dB-cooler sales-pitch. I like that - I listen to music with a dynamic range, and the noise off the X1900 gets in the way. Still, I'll be damned if I'll make the switch for such a reason. Specs: Case: Dinky chinese no-name thing Motherboard: ASUS M2N-E, BIOS v.1202 (or was it called 1201? Not the latest by a long stretch), nForce 570 chipset CPU: AMD Athlon(64) X2 6400+ BE RAM: 3 Gb DDR2-667 Videocard: ATI Radeon X1900XT 512 Mb, Catalyst 9.3 Soundcard: Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music [i fully expect this to be independent of HDD/CD/DVD-drives and input-thingies.] Networking: Realtek 8169C [Edit2] Ok, I looked for dust. And BOY was it a rich haul! The opening of the heatsink pointing into the case was nearly covered with dust - maybe it's just me, but it actually seems the system is much quieter even at idle now. I have yet to test it live - some things to stick in various places before I go, but so far so good. AND I also managed to cram a harddrive into where it's supposed to be. Damn CPU-fan getting in the way... [Edit3] Aaaaand all of a sudden X-Plane runs just great. Windowed, Catalyst AI deactivated, a bunch of shader-options turned down or off, but still - artifact-free. Lookin' good, just after 5 seconds vacuum-cleaning! Drat! NWN2 is still down for the count (and I even bought the card with that game in mind)! However, X-Plane is reliable and artifact-free (at least while windowed), FSX seems to be ok, although I still get some rare text-corruption, NWN1 seems to be just fine. But... NWN2... I've spent some good money on that thing, you know, and I wantsss it working again. Some temperature readouts: Idle: 63C (after boot - isn't that quite high?) Load: 70-78C (70 normal in X-Plane, 76 in NWN, 76-78 in FSX, NWN2 crashes before I have time to check, but the fan speeds up gloriously when I enter an actual game) 14th: There's been a breakthrough. I opened the case and LEFT IT OPEN, gawd, and all of a sudden temperatures dropped by 8-10 degrees across the board (and my room was a few degrees warmer then). New idle-temp is 54C. Now testing NWN2, my X1900-killer... Nope, NWN2 still locks up, and not just a little... Everything else seems to work as intended, though. Except for the slight D3D-artifacts I'm tempted to ascribe to only half-suitable drivers. I want my OpenGL back!
  18. It looks like my X1900 (ATI Radeon X1900XT 512 Mb 2x DVI) is up against the ropes, for some reason... So, I want some second opinion. (And then some.) The problem is that it has had... weird rendering things in OpenGL since sometime during the second half of 2007, seemingly up until the latest driver-release (9.3). I haven't been able to test each and every version, but as I recall it was pretty constant from the beginning through 8.6. And now, with 9.3, DirectX gets hit with this (as seen in FSX - I still haven't tried FC, but I'll do that once I get this posted). To a lesser extent, but still. The OGL-problem is not too easy to describe, but there seems to be a set point in a zone (or it moves with the camera) from which random triangles pop out in slightly epileptic rates. Also, some textures/particles don't seem to render correctly and appear as big white square smears that move around. (Confirmed in NWN 1.69 and latest X-Plane.) Bah, X-Plane, now that's where my problems get to their most spectacular... (Although I guess I should say NWN2 is the real killer - but I've never managed to play it more than 30 minutes without crashing, assuming of course that the module even loads...) The (ONE!) D3D-artifact is to do with text. The text in the message-box (for dealing with MS's ATC) is a little bit garbled, and the background over which the text appears looks a bit garbled too - probably the main symtom. This varies depending on... something. I never did manage to put my finger on it, but there seemed to be three different stages of this 'corruption' - clean (as it should be), shaded, and lit. Changes occasionally between opening and closing the ATC-window. If you've seen it yourself, you'll probably recognise it. If you haven't, I don't dare try to describe it in a different way. :) I don't play any really recent prettified games - exceptions being NWN2 (at least I DID when it didn't crash all the time...) and The Witcher. I think FSX is the most brutal game/sim, though X-Plane seems to get the fan-speed up quickly as well. What's your verdict? Has anyone else using a X1900 seen this?
  19. Make sure to mention your OS, and what shadow- and visibility-settings you're using. 32 or 64-bit? Anything running in the background, like a virus/malware-guarding thing? Though I haven't seen it myself, they're supposed to cause the freakiest glitches for such an easy 'fix'. Seriously, I wouldn't be the least surprised if this turns out to be a run-in with Vista and administrative privileges...
  20. Bastards... My X1900 is still alive!
  21. Well, 9.3 had better sort out the hangs and crashes I get under OpenGL on my X1900, then...
  22. Hm, well, now that the X-Fi has been thoroughly recommended, here's something to at least look at. Mayhap it'll confuse you even further, but informed purchases always smell better the following morning. http://www.cmedia.com.tw/ (Good luck finding their gear for actual purchase, though...) http://www.m-audio.com/ (Mostly geared for professional sound-processing, it seems. Probably not what anyone of US are looking for.) http://www.turtlebeach.com/ (It doesn't look like a classy line-up, but it's affordable. Remember to look for reviews!) http://www.asus.com/ (Now we make soundcards too! XONAR would be your quarry.) http://www.club3d.nl http://www.auzentech.com (Uses the X-Fi chip in a number of cards. As good as Creative's X-Fi? :) Seriously, get a load of that Home-theater-monster!)
  23. You're effin' kidding me: It actually crashed! I never got past the part where it wants to launch some MSXML SP10 or something. (Running IE8 v. 8.0.6001.18702 on WinXP Home 32-bit SV/se on a HP Pavilion dv1000.) For reference: Firefox 3.08 with a couple of add-ons installed got 70/100, with the colours being the most obvious point of failure (also, the animation was only smooth up to 51).
  24. Loads fast: Like. Works with the sites I'm visiting, but there seems to be glitches while browsing microsoft.com: ROFL-fail. Generally, though, it's SW-approved. 'Course, I'm not terribly ambitious in my browsing or very impatient, so I'll just keep using Firefox because it's much more fun.
  25. Safari Ken: Decent X-Fi-drivers for Linux?? Dude, you have a bit of a homework to do! It IS true that there are WORKING drivers - that is to say, X-Fi owners get sound, but that's about as good as those drivers are going to get, it seems... Creative should be OK in Windows, but if there's any plans involving Linux - no-no! To OP: I don't really know about Auzentech, but they're using X-Fi circuitry and at least in the distant past confessed some ambition of having working Linux-drivers. Perhaps something to look into, if only for ethical reasons? Also, regarding onboard sound: At the moment I'm writing from my mother's laptop, carrying some Conexant wossname. When I tried to play some recording or other it sounded perfectly awful - I first thought it was the speakers not handling the strain, but it turns out the soundcard just didn't support 24-bit sound. Fail! My, what, five years old X-Fi-card runs 24-bit just dandy...
