  1. I was addressing everyone in general. Well, at least those who think gaming headphones is the bee's knees, given the chance to go with hi-fi gear. As for reading your posts more carefully... To be perfectly honest, I have such a hard time understanding you, with all the spelling, typos, grammar (incl. punctuation), that I'm not sure it would do much good... Sorry.
  2. Me, I'm possibly bucking up for one o' these: http://www.hifiklubben.se/produkter/hogtalare/system/dali_concept-6_hogtalarsystem.htm I apologize for the thread hijack/derail, but I'm VERY much against primarily using headphones (unless they happen to outperform your speakers - as is the case with my laptop, wonder of wonders). The temptation to evangelize was just too great for me... But, more to the point: If I DO ever use headphones while playing (or general computer usage), I'm quite satisfied with my Denon ADH-1001, or whatever they're called. Not the most comfortable, not the cream of the cream, but they are GOOD. It was such a rush to actually hear the harpist's every little pluck when trying them out with a Harry Potter soundtrack... I have nothing against Sennheiser, but if you're going for the good stuff anyway, why limit yourself with a "gamer"-design? They have quite a respectable output in the more serious listening business, I understand.
  3. But with looooooooooooads of HDR and funky weathering.
  4. ... 8... :shocking: :surrender: My next build will start at 4, at least, though. Check.
  5. PM dispatched. But... Aggravation! I have to set separate controls for EVERY flyable?? It'll take me weeks! (Well, on the other hand I'm sure to end up with a scheme suited generally to my preferences...)
  6. Hm... Not knowing how much RAM you already have, I'll just point out that when I went from 1 to 3 Gb (also DDR2 800) I had a HUGE boost. In The Witcher. :) LO loaded A LOT faster, but I don't think it translated into anything near as big in-sim.
  7. And what a way we've come since 1.02! I even have to reduce my graphics-settings. But... it's still a bloody difficult sim. :music_whistling: Is it just me, or isn't the A-10 a lot more sensitive to control-input than in 1.12? Um, that kind of puts me in a bind with my X45 with its potentiometers acting up... Well, ok, it's a rather more significant issue I have to work so hard to move the stick around - I think the plate the spring pushes against isn't terribly even these days. (This probably equates to: 'Accurate strafing runs? HAH!') Maybe I'll have a look at the deadzones again. Heh, then again, I ran my Hog most accurately into the bridge I was supposed to bomb. :) I have yet to fly the other sweethearts, but I have no doubt it'll be a blast as well. Funny how you seem to get by much better in an A2A-craft with dodgy accuracy, innit? Now, about those pots... Having finally asked Saitek/MadCatz about it, I learned they stopped manufacturing these things 2003, used custom pots, and apparently have no spare-parts left. (... Hey, wait, shouldn't that be a cause for concern? Not that I'd be able to perform the actual surgery - burglar-proof innards.) This isn't the best of times for me to be in the market for a new HOTAS... I don't suppose one of you lot have a cast-off HOTAS in a little better state than mine that you'd be willing to part with? I mean, I get by as is, and I also have a smaller Logitech-stick for things like Freespace 2, but it's... somewhat lacking in the serious-about-our-sims-department - only 12 buttons, sheesh! Hm... It's been a while since I checked out the rules around here, but I suppose it's for the best to deal with that over PM, or even e-mail. (And there's no need to inform me that CH rock left, right and center. I'll have a closer look at their line-up when the time comes, but only then. I'd say I have quite enough going on for now.)
  8. LOL! I HAVE to do that myself some day! As a side-note, I've come across scenery-mods for MSFS and X-Plane that mention some kind of 'non-collidable' bridges and things - for the express purpose of flying under them, I expect. (Hey, it's good fun, right?) Maybe that's the story with LO? ... But, then again, you DO sort of crash and burn if you try to fly your plane through a bridge in-sim, don't you? Hm... A tough riddle.
  9. A rather more flashy way is, of course, to get a complete home-cinema setup. Amplifier/receiver and all the speakers you like. Depending on what you buy, though, it's bound to be... pricey... Still, that's your most sure-fire bet to get better sound than the Z-5500. (Disclaimer: No, I haven't listened to a Z-5500 in my life, but I seriously doubt those speakers will be anywhere near proper hifi floor-standers.) I'm currently using a single amplifier with four speakers connected as A- and B-pairs - basically four-point stereo. While not 5.1, I get really nice sound that way. Consider that as well. :) KON-FU-ZJOO!
  10. Hm... You DO realise the only officially flyable craft are Su-25, Su-25T, Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A/G/S, F-15C, and A-10, right? The AI flies the rest. I don't know what you mean by them not flying, as I haven't tried that myself, but I have definitely seen MiG-25s airborne before, in-sim.
  11. So play Wesnoth on it! :) But, yeah, this is an especially interesting release due to the UI-change. Well, how big is moving the min/max/close-buttons from right to left, but it still caused what looked like the biggest Linux-controversy since Mono... And Mint 9 looks like it'll give you THREE options! (Traditional, Mac, new Ubuntu) I hope Plymouth works as advertised for me, though. Downloaded, burned, time for a clean reinstall. (Once I get home...)
  12. Hm... Tornado? Gripen/Viggen? (Hey, what are wishlists for? ;) ) I'll definitely be happy with an F-16 or -18 next, though. Perhaps not something that will make me wet my pants or anything (I've had Falcon 4 on my HD since '98, like), but some jazzed-up fidelity isn't bad. Multirole would be really neat to add to the mix, but in case that's too much work for such a short time-frame, fighters are always cool. Revamped Flanker, Eagle, Fulcrum... F-5, anyone? :D ... And... I don't really find the X-31 ugly at all...? (The F-4, though, UGH!)
  13. Future proof... True, there's Witcher 2 looming. Okidey, AMD FTW. (I suppose that means 5770>5750 as well? Even if I "only" play in 1280x1024 with a pragmatic attitude to AA/AF? Well, a 22"+ monitor is a fair distance away.)
  14. Bugger the PC hardware industry for making things difficult! I'm contemplating an upgrade, and most things appear to be decided (as for the rest, I'm prepared to live with the consequences of my gutty, shoot-from-the-hip, wanton picks) - EXCEPT the CPU. I thought I was pretty much set on the Phenom II X4 945 (I likez teh smaller wattage - getting a HD5750 or 5770 to go with it, telling Nvidia to go hang), only now I discovered a quite affordable S1156-motherboard, and a fair amount of praise for Intel's i5 660 (661 seems to be available to me as well, but since the only difference is the higher-clocked graphics-component, 660 is good enough). The bother is that cost-consideration is nearly moot here - I can get this motherboard (GA-P55-US3L) and an i5 660 for about the price of the Phenom 945 and a M4A89GTD PRO/USB3. (I'd probably settle for a slightly cheaper AM3 MB, though, but the difference in price is... small enough to ignore, on the whole.) Hm, I had a 790-chipset in mind instead of the 890, but the older hardware is more expensive?? *Shrug* This is one messed up business... *Buggers off to read up on chipsets* Well, what say you? 945 or i5-660? I expect DCS and/or X-Plane to be the heaviest test for these things - no video editing or the like. (Well, I confess I run a virus-scan once in a blue moon, and Linux... is present to do funny things with.) Mind the wattage, now.
  15. I first bought an ASUS motherboard in 2002/3 - still holding, stable as anything, RDRAM and all. I bought another a few years later, had to upgrade BIOS to use the CPU that's now stuck in it, but otherwise equally stable despite heavy use. In short: I beg to differ. (And I'm not going to be swedishly humble about it, either. :P)
  16. I have a similar issue with my X45, though far less dramatic. I've been recommended to replace some potentiometers - due to geographic circumstances, I haven't been able to do this just yet. Just so you're prepared for the eventuality.
  17. Looked to me like there's merely a great chance of mucking up your control-settings. So, it would be best to enable the Cobra FIRST, and THEN set up your in-game controls. If that requires a full reinstallation, I will personally find the closest ED-employee and kick him/her/it inna nads. :)
  18. That's always the problem. Not that I'm an expert on the matter, but what I'd recommend is looking at the in-sim encyclopedia and learn to recognize the different vehicles, and pay attention to the briefing as to where you can expect to find hostiles or friendlies (and what vehicles they'll be driving).
  19. LOL! Priceless! :D You can be SURE I'll monitor this topic for progress! (I'm also, incidentally, running Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop (dualboot with XP), so that's NOT sarcastic! 'K? Good.) You know, sometimes I really like this forum.
  20. Whoa! That's the most beautiful ugly S-O-B I've ever seen! Now for the future. :)
  21. Acceleration, you say? The way I heard it, it's more or less non-existant... Well, there is some kind of (software) sound-server that I'm not overly familiar with that was criticized for making soundcard-upgrades mostly pointless. Though I have a feeling that mostly concerned Creative's way of getting us some surround/5.1/7.1-sound - sound driver crashes cited as driving cause behind scrapping DirectSound. If your board is Creative-made, though, have you investigated OpenALchemy, or whatever it's called?
