Free Mi-24P Campaign : The Dawn Of The Soviet-Afghan War
Raffi75 replied to dggoofy's topic in Missions and Campaigns
At what point do you turn on the anti-icing system and pitot tube heater? I always do this on the ground, before turning off the AI-9, and I have no problems during flight. I checked the manual today; the anti-icing system and pitot tube heater turn on at temperatures of +5°C and below. -
Unfortunately, I disagree with you. I'm basing this on real-life knowledge and procedures from my unit. Three minutes after activating the heading system, set the switch to the MK position and press the sync button. It should display the heading of the helicopter you're facing. Then, switch to GPK. So much for real-life knowledge. I don't know how accurately all of this is reflected in DCS. I'll have to fly a longer route and check it out. There's one more thing. Before takeoff, I check the magnetic declination in the lower cabin. Flying solo, offline, I've noticed that it doesn't always match what's shown on the map under the F10 key. Following on from this, have EG and other map publishers considered that magnetic declination varies for different dates? I doubt it, so I rely solely on what's written on the F10 map.

But you do realize you're replying to a post two years later? So, let me tell you from experience, we calibrate on MK and then switch to GPK. At least that's how it is for us.

Free Mi-24P Campaign : The Dawn Of The Soviet-Afghan War
Raffi75 replied to dggoofy's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Mission 10: First of all, this isn't how it's done. I had to pause the flight and use the Mi-24 instructions for the first time. It was hilarious. Now, seriously. Maybe I missed something, but the Orel 1 was left hovering (frozen) next to the cargo hold. I completed all the mission instructions, landed at the designated location, got an F10 message, a report, and the mission was completed. When I returned to the campaign menu, I saw I had the same mission to complete. I could skip, but I don't think that's the point. I wonder if I might have missed something? I took two soldiers and 800kg of cargo. Does this have any bearing on the fact that the mission was not 100% completed? -
Free Mi-24P Campaign : The Dawn Of The Soviet-Afghan War

Mission 5: On my first attempt, I completed a night flight along the route. Takeoff and landing were successful, and nothing happened along the way. Only on my second attempt did everything go according to plan. Mission 9: I attempted this mission several times (my life). Volk 3 took off vertically from the stand. On my second attempt, Volk 2, 3, and 4 took off vertically before the colonel boarded and circled the airfield. Later, they joined me, and I was able to continue the mission. On my last, successful attempt, Volk 4 took off vertically before entering the runway. -
I understand. Now I just have to wait for the ED to implement the amendment. I wonder if I'll live to see it. @Raven (Elysian Angel) Corrected.

Okay, gentlemen and lady. We're talking about future plans here, and all we can do now is wait and hope that this will also be implemented in older DLCs. The question remains: has anyone tried messing with the appropriate image file and if so, did it yield any results? Is simply replacing the file sufficient, or do I need to make some changes to the .lua file? I wish I could make this modification for myself.
-
I am very curious whether and when they would be willing to implement this. Two weeks mister, two weeks.

I noticed one thing: the sun visor inside the cabin is transparent. The view from the outside is correct. Can anyone tell me which file is responsible for this element inside the cabin? I wanted to see if it's possible to achieve the same effect as in, for example, the OH-58 Kiowa. OH-58 sun visor off/on

Free Mi-24P Campaign : The Dawn Of The Soviet-Afghan War
Raffi75 replied to dggoofy's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I don't know where you got the idea that the Mi-24 is a cobra. It's not an airplane. Sudden braking is normal in a helicopter. You have to remember that you can't exceed +/- 30°. At too low a speed, exceeding operational limits, you can fall on your tail. We call this "złapać zwierza" (catching the animal). If you did everything as described in the mission, the Wilk maneuver is perfect. I added 20 km/h to make sure it would be okay. As Raven wrote, the return route to base is chosen to be as safe as possible. Generally, the entire route is planned with flight safety and fuel consumption in mind. -

How did you manage to catch the racket? It looks bad. I got into the game and then it was over. -

Colonel, hospital... Luckily I didn't have to report "Gruz 200". Mission accomplished @Raven (Elysian Angel) Something's wrong with your post. The text in the second frame and the photo are missing. Well, I wrote that it's great fun. -
I watched the movie "The Shepherd" again. I can't wait to see this mod so I can take a ride in it at night.

Yes, the dialogue is interesting. I didn't want to reveal that to Raven. I was only writing about random events. -

@Raven (Elysian Angel)The anti-icing system should be turned on when the outside temperature is +10°C. Pitot tube and clock heating as needed. -

@Raven (Elysian Angel)I just remembered. You mentioned icing. Did you have the pitot tube heater on? I'm thinking about the switches on the left side. I once forgot to turn it on before a flight. It took a while to warm up. -

I don't think you missed anything. I flew both routes. Nothing special happened. Just a regular flight to the airport. I don't have VR. During normal (real-world) flight procedures, you synchronize in MAG and then switch to GYRO. I fly in GYRO. I also check the magnetic declination setting in the copilot's cockpit. -

I'm not saying it's bad. I have this thing where when the subtitles come on, my eyes dart away for a moment to see what's flashing. It's my little ADHD. I look forward to more missions from you, I'm having fun with them. -
You're just a guy who's read a lot of books, and knowledge is pouring out of his ears, and he has to brag about it. That's not the point. Just like it's not the point that Chuck created a very good manual.
-
Perhaps it's because the F-16, F-18, and Ah-64 are in active service and thus have a chance to attract more new customers. The Mi-24, having long since outlived its glory days, is no longer attractive to new generations. It remains a target for enthusiasts and lovers of Soviet engineering, and therefore, is no longer as profitable. That's my thought.

Free Mi-24P Campaign : The Dawn Of The Soviet-Afghan War
Raffi75 replied to dggoofy's topic in Missions and Campaigns
This is just my personal opinion. Actually, such a subtitle on/off function shouldn't be difficult to implement. ED could probably add something like that to the menu. Unless I'm an exception. Have fun. The campaign is definitely worth the time invested. I'll definitely be returning to it. When I finish this one, I'll tackle Palestrael on the Mi-8 again. Another well-done campaign by ddgoofy. I saw that you finished the Yoyo campaign, and I agree with what you wrote. I've already finished it too. -

The campaign is of a very high standard. The dialogue adds a lot of realism and is a great addition. It's just a shame I can't turn off the subtitles; they're a bit distracting me. The missions are very well planned and offer a lot of variety. I enjoy the unexpected twists and turns of the action. I put on some music from that period (I really like it) and have a great time. In the ninth mission, I noticed slight differences in the flight directions given between the kneeboard and the cartographer. -
DCS Su-22 by VinntoreZ - Mod Developement Thread

Could you elaborate on your statement? I'm curious what you're writing about. -
Thank God it's July 2025, and I'm wondering if anything has happened on this topic? I wanted to buy this map, but I won't. One of the most important British airfields of World War II was completely omitted, and we have an airfield that essentially didn't exist. Thank you, I'm not buying it.
